This album wasn't as popular as previous REM albums, and I think I understand why. Besides the bands seemingly new mission to continue different paths from their original sound, the overall feel to UP is a bit gloomy and dark. The overall musical sound is murky but the lyrics still run deep (Stipe is still an amazing poet). I remember "Daysleeper" and "At My Most Beautiful" being pushed as the breakout songs, but unsure of how well they did. My personal favorites include "Lotus", "You're in the Air", and "Walk Unafraid". This album is good, but it isn't one of R.E.M.'s best. I don't listen to the majority of the songs that often anymore, but since I'm an REM fan, I had to get this album.
