Great item to have

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I used this to broadcast on Facebook Live through OBS on my laptop. Did a great job. I had a $50 card which through special which gave me 16GB. I used 20% or 3GB for an hour and 15 mins. So if you are out where you can't access wifi or you want to be private... this is the item. I had to go to Verizon to have them set my account up so I can access how much data I was using. I set up intially but went to Verizon to have them help. I have a IOS phone on Straight talk.

The Little Hotspot That Could!
|Posted .Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality4 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use3 out of 5It took about 40 minutes to get it activated and get it working, but once it was working it works very good. The problem is the description of this hotspot is not complete/inaccurate. When you look it up on the Best Buy website it also shows a Sim starter kit and photographs of refill cards. This would lead most people to believe that although this hotspot is locked to Verizon, that it did not have a Sim card already installed. Well it did have a Sim card installed, but looking at the pictures and talking to a Best Buy team member, who said it didn't have a Sim card by the way, I also purchased a Verizon Sim starter kit as well as a 50 Dollar Refill card. Now once I found the Sim card already installed and through the use of a magnifying glass to read the numbers on it, I called Verizon directly and got this thing activated thereby negating the need for the $50 refill card. A 50 Dollar refill card that I now did not need, had not used, had not scratched anything off or expose anything on the card, that I am now being told I cannot return! The frustrating thing is I asked a Best Buy team member in the store about the need to get a Sim card to put in this device, and two of them said YES, and that I would have to buy a SIM card starter kit as well as a refill card. So in the future whoever buys this thing either check it before you leave the store or don't buy the Sim card because it is not necessary to activate this device - that can be done online as the Sim card is aleady installed! the only possibility is that I bought a returned unit andf the Sim card was never taken out. Very deceptive this advertising was!

Know regrets
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendAt first i was hesitaten about buying this because of the low price. Well, i’m glad i didn’t let that stop me from buying it. Because this baby works like a champ . . . it has great speed on my iphone & laptop. And it also maintained its speed on youtube. And it wasn’t hard to setup . . . just make sure you have about 45 minutes to set it up. And don’t forget to change the admin password . . . you will also have to change the wifi password as well. By the way you can use the admin password for wifi as well. Just make sure it’s strong. You’ll have to login to the device from a browser to change passwords.

Best Prepaid Hotspot with bad website support
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI bought this after I moved to West Des Moines before I get the home internet setup. While it is little expensive over other, Verizon signal here in this area is strong and AT&T, which is my wireless carrier, sucks. After I bought this it took me fairly half-a-day to setup and go online. I am a techie, engineer and I can fairly work with any new system easily. I found that I need to have working internet to activate this and use it. What is the point of buying a hotspot that needs the internet connection to activate and load? Can't the Big Red Verizon, could let me activate it without having internet? AT&T can do it if they have a signal available there. Come'on Verizon! While I recommend this, I advise buyers to activate and load your Hotspot before leaving Best Buy.
Q: Questionwhat are the costs after you buy the jetpack?
Asked by wondering.
- A:Answer There's a $35 activation fee plus the amount of gigs you want to purchase

Q: Questionhey i wanted to know if this is unlimited data device, and how much is the plan for unlimited? . i cant deal wit limited data.. i need unlimited ..thinking about cutting Xfinity out.. cost to high for juss wifi.. ridiculous
Asked by rey.
- A:Answer Define "unlimited"... Plans vary (Since I have both classes including one of these devices...) with Verizon (and the others, to be honest) depending on whether you pre-pay or post pay. In the case of Postpaid, you get the same deal you get with any Unlimited plan. 15 Gb of LTE in the bundle, drops to 750 kbps max unless you add a Databoost. You can't add a databoost to the hotspot unless you have at least ONE premium (~$60-70 Unlimited) line. Databoosts go for an additional 5 Gb of LTE per boost, 20 total boosts per line. If you're using a Postpaid plan, you might want to think about getting a "data phone" as the deal's better (22 Gb before they cut back and you can easily add boosts AT location/device.) If you're running pre-paid, they're a bit more usable... Still a mixed bag. You can get true "unlimited" access for $70/mo with discounts for being part of a Verizon Family pre-pay plan and for auto debit from a checking account. But there's gotchas In this case, you have unlimited data...so long as there's no congestion in the area you're in and you're in an area that they have the supported bands for this device. If there's congestion, you're going to get "prioritized" which means your packets may/may not be serviced by the towers, depending on backhaul and tower capacity. It also doesn't handle all rural areas either. It does appear the $200 retail device is a better deal in this regard and seems to work more properly and is a lot more usable, though you can get sub 2.5 G access speeds at times even with this. If you're okay with the small risk of the service being "slow" albeit largely reliable in most areas, the more expensive unit is a better bet. If you're wanting consistent results, you'll want to look at a Prepay arrangement if you can get one obtained for yourself. In no way, though, is this actually "better" or even "cheaper" than most of the Cable company. This won't be cheap unless you're good with the deal Verizon's offering for the Prepay hotspot customers right now...and it still isn't the same thing.

Q: QuestionI’m looking to purchase a hotspot but have no idea what I’m doing. I need to know how the best way is to buy the data needed for the month on an automatic renewal. I’m going to be streaming 3 steaming channels most all day and into the night, and 3 others
Asked by Janet.
- A:Answer The Verizon hotspot Jetpack is very good when the person is using it on the go and needs a WiFi connection on the spot. The hotspot will not and cannot replace home internet service because it would be too expensive. I streamed one movie that lasted 2 hours and I used at least 2 Gigs of data. By the next day, I blew straight throught the remaining 13Gigs. I do not recommend a hotspot for streaming data unless the data is unlimited. We all know that It's nearly impossible to get unlimited 4G data (We had it with Verizon once and that plan is long gone. Choose an internet provider to stream videos or find a friend that has an account and share his/her account(example: Wifi-HotSpot). You both win if you both share the bill. Note: I paid $55.00 for 16gigs it only lasted two weeks.

Q: QuestionIf you have a phone/ipod that can't text or face time without wifi and your somewhere with no wifi (like the car),can you use it and still have wifi??
Asked by NatureJedi.
- A:Answer As long as you have a Verizon LTE cellular signal, you can use it and still have wifi. This device is simply a Verizon cell phone without a keypad, that you will use as a wireless tether, bridge or hot spot to your iPhone/iPod. It comes with its own Verizon cell phone number so that you have an account with Verizon Wireless. You pre-load it with data (.5, 1, 2 GB) instead of having a monthly cell phone bill.

Q: QuestionThis device won't show me how much data is available. When I check, the message on the device is data usage not available. How can I check how much remaining data there is?
Asked by dpo.
- A:Answer Hi, You can't that I know of. That web site the Jet pack displays on the screen does not exist. I could not find it when I look a while back. The only way I could get the data information was to go to Verizon wireless web site and create an account. I had a problem creating a account for my jet pack at Verizon Wireless and had to get support to help me set up the account. The reason was my email address was connected to my phone account so I could not use it again. It would have been nice if the web site would have told me that was the error. Hope this helps.
