Firmware Appears To Be Fixed. At Least On My End
Posted .Pros mentioned:Brightness, Design, GamingCons mentioned:Backlight, RemoteIf you are looking for the full review of this product you can find it here: (https://youtu.be/2XpnE37EkjI) PERFORMANCE: What’s great about this TV is that it supports all the HDR formats including Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG which few TVs do. This next part is going to come at no surprise, but things looked the best on physical media through a Dolby Vision capable 4K Blu-Ray Player with 4K Discs. Second place went to gaming either on PC or console. Third went to 4K HDR streamed media. Fourth 4K non HDR media. Fifth 1080p SDR media. Sixth 720p and lower media. Which is consistent with A. the technology as bitrate will constantly go down with all of that which means you have less data to work with and increased compression. B. once you switch off HDR media you go from 1.07 billion colors and up to 4,000 nits of brightness to 16.7 million colors up to 100 – 300 nits of brightness with older content having worse mastering due to the limited tech available back then. Dolby Vision also looked better than HDR10/HDR10+, which looked better than Standard Def. Why am I mentioning all of this? Because this guy is a freaking monster and looks spectacular and will blow your socks off. Seriously, I walk around sockless now because my TV blew them all away. The picture gets incredibly bright with near OLED level blacks sporting insane contrast with minimal blooming. Pictures are sharp with vibrant accurate colors. I did not notice any crushed blacks, washed out whites, banding, haloing, etc. unless it was a defect in the recording/mastering. As you can immediately, and I mean immediately notice any scenes that use lower quality cameras, do not have as good of mastering, have low bitrate, or have a defect in it. With this TV being so large everything is massive which means that fuzzy spot in the bottom left of the screen. Yeah, you can see it and it is distracting. Which I noticed more and more the lower quality the content got. Which can make this TV look horrible when paired with horrible source material as it makes it stick out like a sore thumb. At first, I thought this was because maybe this TV wasn’t so great. But upon looking closer at the aberrant behavior I found that it wasn’t due to the TV but a defect or poorly mastered source material as I could reproduce the same things on other screens. I just noticed them easier on this guy because it’s 75 inches with top of the line tech. There were a few times that I noticed the Full Array Lighting being a bit too aggressive which created a mild amount of blooming. Overall, I rarely found Vizio’s algorithm to be overly aggressive. But it did happen here and there. I do think most of the issues that people were having early on are now either fixed due to firmware updates or because they thought the screen looked terrible when it was actually the opposite and was the original source material looking bad. As for the upscaling. I can’t say as I didn’t really notice it. I want to spend a bit of time talking about gaming on this guy. I tried it both on my gaming PC and my PS4. As I haven’t been able to snag a RTX 3080 or Playstation 5 yet to try out the 2.1 HDMI Spec of 4K at 120 Hz with 4.4.4. Which left me at either 4K HDR at 60 Hz or 1080p HDR at 120 Hz which is what I went with. As 1440p is currently not officially supported. Hopefully, it will be after a firmware update. I found overall latency to be great with only a mild difference between it and my Asus PG279Q. On Humanbenchmark I was getting 200 ms on the TV and 170 – 180 ms on my PG279q on average. I think that difference for most users will be negligible. As I was still able to play through Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War on Veteran as well as play through Spider-Man and the TaskMaster Challenges while getting Ultimate Scores without issues. Both of which require fast reaction times and high amounts of precision and the TV didn’t hold me back at all. Overall picture was phenomenal and often left me sitting there in awe. As colors were accurate and dynamic. Contrast whether it be a very dark scene, a very bright scene, or both had a bunch of detail and texture. And getting massive amounts of brightness was awesome. I didn’t notice any issues at all with motion and kept all motion settings off except for Game Mode. I think this is a perfect match for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. If you are a hardcore competitive gamer you’ll have to decide if having increased colors (1.07 billion vs 16.7 million), exceedingly better contrast (15,000 vs 1,000), and 800 – 2800 nits vs 300 – 500 nits will be worth that 30 milliseconds of input latency you are giving up. Other users have complained of issues with VRR. I didn’t experience any issues with it on the PC or PS4 and had that setting ON when I should have had it OFF. Since I use a Nvidia GPU it doesn’t support FreeSync and the PS4 doesn’t support VRR. The PS5 supports HDMI VRR but not Freesync. The Xbox One supports VRR and Freesync with the Xbox One Series X supporting Freesync ranges between 30 – 120 Hz. The Freesync range on this TV is 48 Hz – 120 Hz. Moving onto viewing angles. It’s a VA panel so you’ve got the typical defects of that type of panel not having as good of viewing angles when going off axis. A lot of other written reviews mention blooming. The fine print states that the Full Array Local Dimming is only active during video. Which is why menus look so awful. Menus are also usually done with low quality images which only exacerbates the whole thing as you can see horrible banding. I did find this to be the case on my set. But once I went into any type of video that was immediately resolved. There were occasions where the Fully Array backlight was being a bit too aggressive which is when I would turn it down to medium and it would do fine. For some bad standard def material I had to go to low on the Full Array backlight for it to look good. But that was few and far between. I’d experience issues on a sliding scale with the high-quality content it almost never happened and if it did was from a poor-quality scene to relatively often with poor SDR content. Especially poor SDR content that was old. Blacks look tremendous on this TV no matter what type of content you are watching. They aren’t OLED level blacks, but they are getting closer. The brightness of this TV is fantastic. There were a lot of times I would get blinded by it changing from a very dark scene to a bright scene. As blacks are black and whites are white and can get freaking bright. The onboard speakers are average across the board. Which I’m okay with as I don’t want to pay a premium for great speakers that no matter what you do will sound terrible. This TV is best paired with a quality sound system. As it supports Dolby Atmos Pass through via the eARC (Enhanced Audio Return channel). ISSUES: Some issues that I read in other reviews were that the audio didn’t follow through to another input. I didn’t find that to be the case but was also using the optical port for everything which could be why I didn’t notice it. Users reported that VRR wasn’t working. However, this has since been fixed with the most recent firmware update. I haven’t noticed any software bugs with CEC. The bugs I did see were from my own user error. I did not notice any issues with the local dimming so that also appears to have been fixed. I did notice that early on it sometimes it wouldn’t pickup that I had a source plugged in and turned on. Which made me have to switch to another source and then back to get it to work correctly. But that has since resolved. At one point SmartCast and Airplay wasn’t working correctly where it would load everything just not play any videos. Unplugging and plugging the TV back in fixed this. In this same vein. This TV takes a long time to turn on. It also had extremely dark blacks when it first turns on before it registers a source which makes it appear off. So, I think often times I was powering it on and due to the screen still looking off I would then power it off. So a quick fix for that is to be patient and look at the LED indicator on the far left of the TV to see if it is on/off. The infrared for this guy is also a bit hit and miss which can be frustrating. But also appears to be getting better the longer I own the TV for. CONCLUSION: The picture quality on this TV is phenomenal and most of the issues that plagued it on launch are resolved. It still has some issues that need to be ironed out. But in general, it does a brilliant job at gaming and media watching making it an all-around hit. The remote kind of sucks as do the speakers. But for that extremely competitive price tag I can’t complain too much.

Excellent tv but can’t support 4k@120 all the time

Quality4 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use1 out of 5Previous Tv was a 75in Vizio tv that was 1080@120. Bought this tv to use wifh the Xbox series x. This tv markets that it can do 4k@120 for next gen gaming. While it was able to support 4k@120 about 75% of the time , the 25% of the time the tv would have to go through a 20-30 min boot/reseating hdmi/ and Xbox reboots to get the systems to finally link up. In settings on display on Xbox it would go from the saying the tv can support 4k@120 to bring only able to do 1080@60. Very frustrating. However 4k@60 is still great for last gen consoles (Xbox one gears edition red/black 2tb). Blacks and contrast is brilliant. Did notice some blooming even with the vast array. Moving art on Netflix / AC Valhalla are what we were using the tv for to test it. Sometimes the tv would go no signal or black screen when switching between apps (Netflix =Dolby vision and AC Valhalla = HDR10) Hope this helps. If just for tv it’s great and the pic modes truly help. Was using calibrated for tv and game for Xbox series x. Has 2 regular hdmis/ 2 at 4k@120

The remote didn’t work properly but Vizio did send another within a couple days. Pictures next to my 55” vizio on the wall. With some bad reviews definitely wanted to test it out before installing.

Quality1 out of 5Value2 out of 5Ease of Use1 out of 5It might work if you don’t want to play Xbox on it. If you do want to play Xbox, look somewhere else. I purchase this tv and the first day some Xbox games wouldn’t display properly on the screen. It would constantly switch between HRD10 and HDR10+. The screen would turn green and red and by the third day I had an update for firmware on the tv which you didn’t have the choice to install, just happened by itself and this update from Vizio rendered the tv completely unusable with Xbox and even the home screen wouldn’t display. I tried all the inputs and confirm the cable worked. It was a 4K ultra high speed cable from Monster. I packed the tv up and returned it the next day. There were lots of reviews online that said something similar and I ignored them because of the perceived value you were getting. I purchased a 65 inch LG CX OLED instead. Xbox works perfectly on the LG and it is all around a better product. Get a better TV not a bigger one.

Blown away

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Pros mentioned:Brightness, Design, GamingEasily the most future-proofed tv in 2020. The brightness of this tv is absolutely unreal. The first time I put it on the wall, went to Netflix, and started "our planet" in Dolby vision, my jaw was on the floor for an hour. I had no idea a tv could be so immersive, and I'm coming from a 2017 4k hdr Samsung. If you haven't seen Dolby vision on this tv, you haven't lived. I'm a gamer. I got it for the next generation consoles. HDMI 2.1, 4k-120, freesync, earc, hdr10+ & Dolby vision. There's really no contest. Even gaming on the PS4 pro, which doesn't handle hdr that well, is a totally new experience. The tone mapping technology can adjust to get the most out of any hdr content. Gaming is more responsive than I've ever felt. Things actually happen right when I want them to. Great input lag. The HD upscaling is instant and it looks like 4k. Smartcast is fast and responsive, contrary to previous years. This tv has such pure blacks, which is something I was really interested in after my other Tv always having static artifacts in darker colors, and obviously the peak brightness is just insane. The movie watching experience is where this tv shines brightest. I would put it up against any Oled, and it certainly blows away the other 3 big US TV companies' products this year. Customer service for both best buy and Vizio have been quick, and able to answer any technical questions I had about setting up the TV to my sound system and setting up the smartcast app, since I did everything myself. The CEC on this tv recognizes everything right away and names it. Truly an amazing experience. I'm happy every time I turn it on, and the aluminum frame with basically no bezel, looks beautiful as well. I tried to add pictures, but all of them were over the picture limit, so only one went through.

Highly Disappointed!!!

Quality2 out of 5Value2 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5Pros mentioned:Brightness, Design, GamingCons mentioned:AppsI purchased this TV under my wife's account but putting this review under my. Let me start by saying I was very excited for this TV to be released. I've been wanting to purchase this set since 2019 but decided to wait since I seen the "2021" version would support my future gaming needs. However as mainly purchased this TV for movie watching. I have ovwr 200 4K blu-ray's and counting. Before this set I had a 2015 Samsung 4K 3D tv. This TV was amazing however the brightness started to fade so it was time to upgrade to a newer set. I more of s brightness person rather than perfect black levels so OLED was out of the for now. Not getting another Samsung TV for awhile since they're trying to push 8K on everyone by putting all there best tech in the 8K models when theres barley any true 4K content out at this time and them not wanting to support all HDR formats. So I seen this and its up to 2800 nits of peak brightness. I did some research and watch Linus Tech Tips YouTube pre-production model video review and had some doubts. But I seen they were suppose to release this on Aug 2nd but delayed it so figured they were trying to fix issues that were prevalent at the time of that review but boy was I wrong. This TV looks Atrocious at times. I've uploaded a few pics for reference l. Take a look at the pic from the movie Alita. This is a movie that looks great during daylight and bright scenes but when it gets to dark scenes it just crushes the picture completely. With brightness set to 40 during daylight scenes this TV is supper bright and the HDR pops but when the night scene happens you cannot see anything. The TV defaults the brightness to 50 but when you raise it up to that the picture is completely washed out and unwatchable. Linus said that this TV would blow competitors such as TCL and Hisenese out of the water, let me be the first and tell you that was a lie. I recently picked up a 50inch 2020 Hisenese H8 and this TV is great. Shockingly enough it has outPerformed the Vizio. When setting the backlight from 49-50 for some reason it seems as its going from 49-70. All detail is lost and picture is washed. I have 2 4K blu-ray players. A Panasonic ub820 and a Samsung M-9500. The Samsung player is practically unusable. This TV appears to have an issue with HDR 10 and 10+ content. There's alot of judder, ghosting, and grain. You name it and it does it. My Panasonic does fine with Dolby vision but also has issues with HDR. Also, on some movies have these white lines at the edge of the black bars. Example is the piggy scene from toy story. Let's get to just regular blu-ray movies. This Tv is abs when it comes to blu-ray's. I uploaded a pic of The Hobit. Look at all of the juddee grain and ghosting in this pic. This not just this scene or certain scenes its thought out the whole movie. I have yet to watch a decent looking blu-ray. At times this TV shines and looks like a powerhouse, but more often than not it doesn't. Movies like Jurassic World, Avengers End Game look breathtaking. Now was i expecting OLED level blacks and detail? No, but i was at least expecting this to beat out my $389 Hisenese and my 2015 Samsung TV. Almost like mention from linus the built in apps seem to lose quality no matter using ethernet or wifi. You can tell when the picture degrades. Gaming. This Tv looks horrible with games when auto low latency and game mode is turned on. I play alot of COD but the input lag does not seem to be that great. The Hisenese also is outperforming this TV in that as well. Even my 7 year old son could tell the difference which is bad. In all this TV has alot of potential. Like I said with some movies this TV is a game changer but its processor can't handle all content. Maybe i got a defective pre-production unit or maybe they are not finished with the updates but I can't hold onto this TV any longer. I've had it for 3 days and will be returning on Sat. Think I will be converting over to an OLED but but will take a At the 75inch Sony X900H before I decided purchas the Sony A8H or LG CX10.

Posted .Hi Carter - thank you for your feedback. We wanted to provide some insight into the details you shared.
Industry nomenclature for video controls can be confusing. The “Brightness” control really affects the black level, where “Backlight” or “Tone Mapping” adjusts the actual brightness of the image. At 40, the black level is so low it's going to ruin shadow details, even though it will give the daytime scenes more apparent pop. You can also try turning on local contrast. Another option would be to use the Tone Mapping and/or Backlight control to help make the image appear brighter during the day while preserving the shadow details in all lighting conditions.
With regards to your movies, we recommend turning “Sharpness” to zero and “Edge Enhancement” off to eliminate the extra edges that can make the image seem detailed to the average person, but also enhance film grain and can add white edges to objects. Increase the Judder Reduction (for movies) and Blur Reduction (for video content), and enable Clear Action to improve the motion clarity and Judder in the image. The default preserves the “look” of 24-frame and to stay true to the content creator’s intent, but this can look stuttery if you’ve seen video content at higher frame rates.
Lastly, for gaming you can adjust the Picture Mode for a brighter image with greater contrast. The ProGaming menu settings can enable or disable the Game Low Latency and VRR settings, as well.

Quality3 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5Pros mentioned:Brightness, Design, GamingCons mentioned:Backlight, RemoteI was really excited to finally get my new HDMI 2.1 capable TV! This is also my first true HDR TV. This was purchased in preparation for the upcoming game console releases this holiday. In the pros- - The overall the picture quality is amazing when displaying Dolby Vision or HDR10 content. Breathtaking colors, really dark blacks, and very bright highlights. - The apps are well designed and the interface is fast! There are plenty of free content apps too. Amazing for cable cutters. - Built in Chromecast works great. Haven't tried Airplay yet. - The overall design is beautiful. The bezels are super thin and I love how the logo is embedded in the lower right. - The ports are perfectly placed with the main ports facing down and some additional ports on the side to make them easy to quickly connect something temporarily. Amazing product design and thinking on Vizio's part. - Can't beat the price for the capabilities. HDMI 2.1 capabilities all seem to be working although I can't test 120hz just yet. - Plays nicely with my Denon AVR-x2700 There are a few negatives and bugs to be aware of though. Hopefully some these things are resolved in the future. - The backlight in certain situations can create a strange halo effect. This mainly happens on gray backgrounds with bright spots, like when the YouTube logo shows, there is a massive dark glow around the logo. I've also seen this in Linus's Tech Tips video review. Doesn't seem to happen too much in real video content though. - The mounting holes are low on the TV. The mount was already installed and this TV sits much higher (about 8 inches) on the wall than my previous one. Why not have the holes closer to the center? Not a huge problem, but annoying. - If you are using a Harmony remote, this TV model isn't yet available. You can use the previous model (PX75-G1), but some remote functions don't work. The dedicated input and power commands don't function. The power and input toggles can be used instead but this can create inconsistent TV behavior. - The TV takes a long time before it will allow you to change inputs after booting up, even in quick start mode. This makes it difficult for the Harmony remote to change to the correct input on power up. - HDR10+ shares the same picture settings as standard HDR10 but is calibrated to be much much darker. This is really unfortunate because Amazon Prime content is HDR10+ and XBOX One games are HDR10 so switching between those sources will require you to adjust the contrast to make the picture viewable every time. Would be great if they stored different presets or they calibrated the HDR10+ so I didn't need to have the contrast set at 100. - The build quality isn't the best. The bezels, while they look nice, are a bit loose and creaky when touched. Most of the TV is plastic. To be expected for the price and a good tradeoff if you ask me. - Missing HBO or HBO MAX. Not a complete deal breaker as you can cast the video from your phone and it works great. I use android, but sure it would also work on iOS. -Sometimes the backlight freaks out and starts flickering. Doesn't happen that often though, maybe about 3 times total. If this continues to happen, I will be contacting Vizio for a replacement. - Sometimes the TV makes a buzzing noise when first turned on and displaying bright content. Seems to go away after a few minutes though. Overall I am extremely pleased with the TV and highly recommend it to those looking to get an HDMI 2.1 capable TV for the upcoming game consoles. Beautiful picture quality at an unbeatable price. Can't really compete with an OLED, but a 75" OLED cost about 7 grand, so can't really complain either. I recommend getting the Geek Squad extended warranty just in case. Also be sure to get Ultra High-Speed HDMI cables for anything needing HDMI 2.1. This is absolutely needed for the new features to work properly.
I would recommend this to a friendFeatures

Q: QuestionI bough the p quantum on the 29th, not aware that this was coming out. Should I just return and pay 300$ more for this one?? Then wait for this to come out?
Asked by Joegotrice.
- A:Answer I see so few people clarifying this, but only the 85 inch model of the 2020 vizio p series quantum x (not coming out until later this fall, now being mid-July) has the 3000 nits peak brightness and 792 local dimming zones advertised as possible for this model. In contrast, the 75" version of the same model has a peak brightness of 2800 nits and 480 local dimming zones, suggesting it may have more blooming possible, but the brightness is comparable and blooming in this generation will hardly be noticeable; it just smoothes out extreme brights next to deep blacks. Other than the jump in dimming zones from 480 to 792 and a difference in peak brightness of 200 nits you aren't gaining more other than the 10 inches in size from 75 inches by waiting for the 85 inch version. But between the p quantum and the p quantum x of the same size it's well worth returning for $300 more to gain the specs bump. Just don't expect 792 dimming zones unless you're opting for the 85 inch not yet out.
