We bought this when we brought my mother in law home from the hospital after surgery. She was on the upper floor and we were in the basement. This product did everything we wanted at a great price. It has volume control on the parent units which can be turned down low so as not to bother us with background noise during the night but we could still hear her if she got up and needed something. It can also be turned to silent but still able to hear her if she pushes the call button because that overrides the volume. It will beep at you until you turn it off. There is a talk back button also if you want to let them know you're coming. This would be great with a child because it may be all you need to do is talk to the child and they will go back to sleep. Great price for a great product. I am very satisfied with this monitor.
My wife and I have a different video monitor we've been using for several months now, but we've found it's too sensitive to noise. Our infant would make small sounds over the course of the night and then fall right back to sleep, but the other monitor would pick them up and wake my wife.
This audio-only monitor has ended up being a MUCH better solution. It always captures crying, but ignores much of the other random noises our infant might make throughout the night that doesn't indicate that she's awake or needs us.
The range is great (works with a parent unit in the basement and the child unit on the second floor). No issues in over a month of use now.
This has translated into much better sleep for my wife. Love this product!
Having previously used the same brand with a model that required batteries rather than having lithium ion rechargeable ones built in was an expensive hassle that required constant battery replacement. This model is such an improvement that it's hard to believe that it is the same brand.
My wife was seriously ill. At those times when I had to Leave her for a few minutes I carried the receiving unit with me. Being able to talk back to her made both of us feel better. After her passing I moved the transmitter to our foyer. Being a senior citizen who is hard of hearing I carry the receiver with me. When someone rrings the doorbell ooor knocks on the door I can hear them from anywhere in the house or back yard. This product lives up to the claims it makees.
I would recommend this to a friend

Works great and I like it that I can have one monitor up and one down and not have to move it room to room. I can change the volume up or down as needed. I only needed the audio, no need for a video too at my house.
Needed a home communication device in my 2 story house, works exceptionally well. My wife previously banged on the wall when she needed me and I had to run downstairs to see what she wanted. Now I have one parent device in my TV room & the other in my computer room & when she needs me she pushes the button on the baby monitor and tells me what she needs. The device provides two way communication so no need to run up & down the stairs at 67 years old.
Mom & I needed a good monitor for my dad who was suddenly taken ill. I am telling you, we have been through 3 different kinds. And have had to take them ALL back to the store for a refund.
We tried the $19.99 price range, well that didn't work (you get what you pay for in this case) STAY AWAY FROM THESE MONITORS: "Safety First Crystal Clear Monitor" WHAT A JOKE! We bought this from Kmart. We started out with the single parent unit ( monitor for babies room & 1 for the parent). WOW! The buzzing was sooooo loud! it is just a piece of junk. We tried everything. Moved the monitor, changed the distance, EVERYTHING. I returned it. This time I bought the same brand but I got it with 2 parent monitors. "More clear channels (4)”, better this.... better that..... PIECE OF JUNK! Oh, and there were NOT 4 channels, there were only 2 channels (A&B) but since you got 2 parent monitors, they counted the 2 channels on both monitors as a total of 4 channels. So our 3rd monitor I bought from SEARS was "Fisher Price Surround Lights & Sounds" We tried everything on this one also, we even put twisty-ties around the antennas to try for better reception. Also you can't have anything plugged in like your cell phone, printer, etc. or the monitor beeps. We even put it up high, JUST DON'T BUY IT! I am returning it today. That one cost us 35.99. Plus for my mother she didn't like the dial-volume; it was too difficult to turn, you had to use your fingernail.
I took a chance and ordered this “VTECH Safe & Sound” from Best Buy(online). We love it! Mom is going to write the makers of this monitor and rave about how wonderful it is. First of all, it has a button to talk back to the base unit in Dad's room, so we don't have to jump out of our chairs and run through the house like a maniac to ask him if he's OK. Second, it's real quiet, we can hardly tell if it's on or not. An added bonus, it comes with its own rechargeable batteries. Another thing I discovered last night, the loop at the top is great when your hands are full, you can hang it from a finger. Mom would like it to be a little louder, but that's because she hears no noise (when he's sleeping), and can't tell if it's on. That's just her. I can hear the heater and Dad breathing when I put it up to my ear. That's just because it's so quiet. The other day Dad coughed, and Mom jumped, (because the monitor was so quiet, she forgot it was there) We paid $54.97 and it was WELL WORTH IT! Plus, the return policy; can be returned at any Best Buy store, you don't have to bother with shipping it back (oh, shipping to us was free). WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE. And no interference when charging your cell phone, using the toaster or microwave (we keep the other one in the kitchen). And I have this one plugged into a multi-plug unit next to my computer, NO INTERFERENCE!
Works great and is durable. Accidentally dropped it from my pocket onto the blacktop driveway and it stayed in one piece. Battery life is amazing, lasts about 2 days before needing to be charged again.
A:AnswerHello, The maximum operating range of this VTech DM221-2 Baby Monitor is roughly 1000 feet outdoors, and 160 feet indoors. The actual operating range depends on environmental conditions, as well as any interference from outside sources. Thank you!
A:AnswerI live in a duplex- each side about 950 sq ft. I can clearly hear my Mother’s activities in her bedroom and living room. I can holler at her just to make sure she is ok and she can hear me
throughout her house.
I am super impressed!
A:AnswerI have taken these outside to garden or take out the trash and I have used the walkee talkee feature with the base unit to talk to my wife. I believe if all units are on then it goes to all of them so there wouldnt be privacy between child A and child B talking to you.
