    Synopsis

    Warrior
Two estranged brothers and Mixed Martial Arts fighters confront the forces that tore their family apart as they prepare to do battle in the ring in this drama from director Gavin O'Connor (Pride and Glory). Tommy Conlon (Tom Hardy) is an ex-Marine from Pittsburgh who's never quite shaken his troubled past. Upon learning that the purse in an upcoming MMA tournament is the largest in the league's history, Tommy recruits his father, Paddy (Nick Nolte), a former coach and recovering alcoholic, to whip him into shape in time for the competition. Meanwhile, as Tommy steadily ascends the ranks by defeating one powerful opponent after another, his brother, Brendan, struggles to provide for his family with his job as a public school teacher. A former MMA fighter with a devastating punch, Brendan begins to wonder if he, too, could have a shot at winning the coveted purse. In time, Brendan and Tommy both emerge as dark horse contenders in the competition, setting the two brothers on a brutal collision course. But Tommy and Brendan's biggest battle won't be fought in the ring -- it will be fought in their hearts and minds. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

What happens when you have two separate underdogs fight each other in a winner-take-all competition? You end up hoping neither one of them will lose. That’s the situation in this thoroughly engrossing mixed martial arts film. Something I never thought I’d say after teen-filled drama Never Back Down released in 2008 that used unlicensed MMA bouts as a backdrop. Brendan Conlon (played by Joel Edgerton) is a man who gave up fighting professionally for his wife Tess (played by Jennifer Morrison) with whom he now has two daughters. Tommy Riordan (played by Tom Hardy) left home with his mother to escape his father’s abuse and joined the Marines after she passed. Brendan (Edgerton) is now staring at a debt he can’t overcome thanks to his mortgage and goes back to professional fighting in the form of parking lot bouts with inexperienced opponents. And when a video of one of these bouts on the internet is seen by his boss (Kevin Dunn), the principal of the high school where he teaches science, the winner-take-all event is his only hope to avoid foreclosure and relocation. Tommy (Hardy), on the other hand, made a promise to the family of a fallen comrade and intends to keep it no matter what that might mean for his competitors. That includes Brendan who is only revealed to be Tommy’s brother well into the film. I’m not really a fan of MMA. I had a passing interest in boxing at one time, watching it that is, but it passed. That said, a well-made film can make any sport, with the exception of curling, seem interesting. And while some may see the release of this film as being too soon after the critically-acclaimed 2010 Mark Wahlberg film The Fighter, or as some sort of Rocky rip-off, I see a well-made, well-acted, realistic film about two men determined to fulfill their obligations the best way they know how. In the ring. Not to mention the sympathetic performances put forth by Nick Nolte as the father of the two competitors and Jennifer Morrison as the suffering wife.

I enjoyed it. I probably would have liked it less if I wasn't such a big MMA fan. The acting was great. Phenomenal even. Nolte was excellent. The plot was pretty cool but very predictable. It wasn't hard to figure out who was going to square off in the final match of the big tournament. There were a fair amount of plot holes too. The fight choreography was excellent. Overall, it was a good flick. Some movies feel like they are 2 hours, this one didn't. Thats how I know I'm entertained.

This is one of the best movies I have seen. It has a great story and some pretty good MMA fights in it too. Even if you don't watch MMA I would still highly suggest watching this. My mother watched this movie with me and she doesn't pat attention to MMA one bit, and she absolutely loved this movie. It has a great story about two brothers who end up fighting in a big MMA tournament. I would highly recommend purchasing this movie, or at the very least watch it.

Story of redemption that takes place between two brothers and their father while training for a fight. I became wrapped up in the drama of their relationships and their training for success in the ring. I found it suspenseful when the brothers confront each other in the ring for winner take all because I wanted both to win. Good performance by Nick Nolte. Blu-ray disc, packaging, picture and sound quality good. Presented in 2.40:1 aspect ratio.

If you don't have a brother or have never fought with your brother, stop reading and find a different movie. This is not going to be the one for you. The story in this movie is so well done, when the brothers actually fought, it brought me to tears. Nick Nolte is superb, while Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton provide flawless performances. This movie is even better if you like UFC.

Every sport has THAT movie. Slapshot, Field of Dreams, etc. The movie where if you're a fan of the sport, you've seen it. This is that movie for MMA. It's got a fantastic story that can draw you in even if you're not a fan of MMA. Oscar worthy acting from everyone involved, and an ending that could leave you in tears. Yes, even the men watching.

Being a grown man, tearing up in a movie is one of the last things you'd expect. Warrior is such a strong and powerful movie and by the climax of it so many emotions are running through you. All I can say is it is the most inspiring, heartbreaking and breathtaking movies I've seen. If you are a fan of sports movies, you can go wrong with this one.

Very few movies grab my attention and pull at every emotion from the get-go. This has quickly become one of my favorite movies. The acting is superb, the plot gives you the option of choosing which side you want to take, and the fighting action, although a bit more than what you'll see in real life, keeps your attention. Great movie!
