Although they say you don't need this case for the action came I never use my camera with out one. It just gives it extra protection against drops and water. I dropped my action camera on accident I am normally extremely careful. I unclipped it from my helmet and it went flying into the concrete. I was very thankful to have a case on it because it scratched the case of pretty good right where the lens was. So instead of having to replace a camera because the lens got scratched I just had to replace the case!
