1TB WD Elements = GREAT USB External Hard Drive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought 2 of these drives on sale with Best Buy on the WEB - 1 for me and 1 for my girlfriend, plus she and I both had $5.00 Best Buy Points for more savings. This USB3.0 Western Digital 1TB external drive is exactly what I needed to store movies on for my IVIEW 3500STBII DVR (uses USB devices to record or play video). Works with my WinXP - Win7 computers also. It came formatted as NTFS, and with my Windows "Fat 32 Format Tool", I can even format the entire 1TB to FAT32 so any TV or DVR media player see the drive and can run the movies. I even used it to make a Windows Backup Image for a Net-Book computer, before I upgraded it to a newer OS. It is compatible with USB3.0 & USB2.0, and Data transfers with this drive on my older USB2.0 jacks is faster then with regular USB2.0 devices. The small size is just right, the 18" USB Cable is an excellent length, and I really like the LED light on the front which shows it powered up and flashes when the drive is reading / writing data. NEXT TIME I WILL BUY THE Western Digital 2TB OR 3TB DRIVE, as I see so much that I can use this kind of data storage for. Way to go Western Digital - better than the same thing by Seagate.

Great space for holding all sorts of information!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has a great amount of space and is just what I need. I've had my computer crash, burn, die, whatever you may call it about three times. It's the worst experience and lesson to have to face and I had to do it three separate times. Twice I was able to back up the computer, but the last time I wasn't. I wish I'd had this awesome gadget sooner as I lost many irreplaceable pictures, important documents, etc. This thing took everything my laptop had on it and I STILL didn't make a dent in it. Don't know what I'd do without it. I love this thing!

Very simple and reliable.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This hard drive was on sale when I bought it. However, it's a great deal with or without a reduced price. The plug-in-play features are simple and concise, and the casing seems to be pretty durable. If you're looking for a large capacity hard drive to backup files or even transfer large folders, this HDD is a very good option. It does not include the higher-priced feature. But if you don't need those features, this may be the right HDD for you.

WD Never Disappoints
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second WD external HD and they never fail. My first one got full and was purchased when externals were just making their appearance. This one was a lot slimmer than my original and looks like they will continue to get smaller. Great price on a great product!

This drive hit the spot!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My iTunes library was putting my laptop's hard drive in the red, and I was so glad to find this external hard drive on sale! I was able to successfully transfer my library to the new drive, and my laptop breathed a huge sigh of relief! My picture collection will be the next thing to go on this drive, as I am trying to free up disk space to install Windows 7 and the current version of iTunes. If you're looking for simple, no-frills, easy-to-use media storage, the WD Elements is your best bet!

Perfect
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love how slim and small it is. It's perfect for what I needed it for. It's the second what I've bought already. Needed more storage, not because anything was wrong with the first one.

Q: QuestionCan you transfer new files weekly to this external hard driveSpecifically, I'm wondering if you can back up all your files regularly, and if the old ones are automatically overwritten, or if I'd end up with multiple duplicate copies of everything? Thank you!
Asked by Joel.
- A:Answer No, it will not duplicate if the file is in the same name. It will give you an option if you want to overwritten the file or keep both of the file.

Q: Questioncannor connectCannot pick up my WD Element on my PC
Asked by at.
- A:Answer This question is written without sufficient information, but you can check the following. Check your Bios / Setup Configuration to see if you have the USB capability, and if so is it turned ON/OFF. Also, you need to state your OS. Does your Operation System have the ability to auto-detect a USB device when it is inserted? Is this feature turned ON/OFF? Poorly written question / post. No one can answer this as it is written, and person needs to check the Bios Setup, and OS Capabilities.

Q: QuestionPrimary hard driveI have a laptop and the internal hard drive is failing. Can I buy external hard drive and install Windows 8.1 to it and tell mylaptop to boot from that drive?
Asked by richhog64.
- A:Answer I'm thinking most likely not because an external drive is usually only used for saving documents, photos, videos, etc. Internal drives are designed with active folders that actively connect directly with the internal computer system (BIOS, motherboard, etc.). The best thing would be to get a new internal drive. However, be sure to save all documents, photos, videos, etc. to any external drives or USB thumb drives. Also I've tried doing the same thing and it didn't work.

Q: QuestionI don't know anything about external hard drives! I want a portable hard drive to store and play several thousand songs. What would you recommend?clueless what to buy??
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Depending on how much memory is needed, a simple thumb drive could work. Otherwise a 2+ TB drive would be a great investment. There are other external drives with more memory and are portable but they need to be plugged in. The one I have does not need to be plugged in. So it's great to use somewhere else if there's no access to an outlet.
