How is this work and used? I bought it to back up my files.

I bought this when our daughter's laptop died just before finals to transfer the contents of her hard drove to a replacement computer. She now uses it for file backup so that recovery is much easier in the future. Tip: when selecting a laptop, know that it is much easier to recover files from a hard disk drive than a solid-state drive. If you have a computer with a solid state drive, be careful to back up all the files regularly in case the computer dies (i.e. bad motherboard). This device is easy to use as a backup drive. (Not as easy as a network backup drive but adequate for personal use.)

I wanted a portable hard drive to serve as a backup to the one I have now. The Passport has a 500gb capacity which was the size I had wanted and was reasonably priced at Best Buy . It is a bit smaller than my earlier hard drive in physical size and is plug and play pretty much. I use these drives as storage for photos videos and documents and the Passport fills the bill perfectly.

I carry this with me most places I go as it holds install files troubleshooting tools, and various linux isos. The backpack I keep it in does get knocked around a bit and there have been times when kids and animals have knocked the drive off of the desk and it as well as its wire have handled it with no issues.

I love this drive! It's compact, portable and reliable. I am a video editor and put projects on this drive that I want to take with me into the field so I can edit on various machines. The fact that it is USB 3.0 gives me the throughput I need for video editing and rendering. And I don't have to worry about plugging in a power supply as it's powered through the USB cable! So sweet and so easy. When this drive is on sale...I buy several.

This is the drive recommended by Geek Squad to save data from an old no longer functioning PC. I did that job and I am now using it to store excess data from new PC.

This was a great purchase! I purchased this for my daughter who has a portable mini laptop. She used up all her on board storage from videos and pictures. This saved us a lot in the long run because transferring the photos and videos to this drive freed up a lot of memory. Now She is more productive in her studies without the lag.
