Great TV for the $, But Purchase a Sound Base ...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read all the prior reviews, and knew what to expect. I thought, OK, the sound is an issue for most. I got the item home, hooked it up and the picture quality was excellent, the sound was horrible (actually unbearable). I web researched about the sound quality on Flat Screen Tv's and found that ALL of them have horrible sound and require some sort of sound system to make the TV's bearable. Since the Flat screens are so thin, they can't include good sound systems inside them and We consumers need to purchase additional equipment to get the sound we can tolerate. I then researched sound bars etc (so many price points and choices). I decided to try a local Walmart and scored an incredible SOUND BASE. Yes, It's not a sound bar, but a Base in which this TV fits perfectly on. I was going to return this TV to BB if I could not find a solution to my 'sound' dilemma. This Sony Product (FWSA205E) http://sanyo-av.com/product/product.php?id=546 did the Job and now I am completely satisfied with the TV purchase. One note: You will need to purchase a Audio Optic cable ($16) to get the TV and Sound Base to work together. Installation on the upgrade was quick and simple.

A good device for a bargain price...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I walked into Best Buy ready to buy a 40 inch TV for the bedroom. My two primary metrics were A) to find one that was preferably full HD, and B) to find one at a bottom dollar price **without** going for an unknown (or known lesser quality) brand. I wandered the entire television section of the store, and I finally ended up at the "open box" section because the prices were much more reasonable. I got to talking with one of the sales reps there, and I commented on the surprising number of mainstream brands that were in the open box section labeled as refurbished. It was indicated to me that these refurbished units are mostly customer returns for one reason or another. I had no problem with that, I am relatively nerdy and quite comfortable with setting up electronics, and was OK with the factory warranty as being sufficient to shake out any problems a refurbished unit might have. During my travels through the store, I had seen this Westinghouse unit with the same size and specifications as all the other brands, so I asked the sales rep how often they saw Westinghouse TVs come back in as returns compared to the larger name brands. That kind of stopped him in his tracks, and he said "you know, I don't think I've ever seen a Westinghouse get returned!" He even called over a coworker and asked him the same question, and his coworker also had never seen a Westinghouse TV get returned. Well, considering this is just the extra TV for back in the bedroom, that was all I needed to hear. Brand-new, with full warranty, it was still far less price than even the refurbished units of the bigger name brands. I brought it home, was pleasantly surprised to see a very well packaged device along with a well written manual as opposed to the poorly translated "Engrish" manuals so common to the low-end brands. I must admit, I had somewhat low expectations considering the extremely low price, but other than a sensitivity to lesser quality HDMI cables in one of the HDMI input ports, this TV has now been functioning flawlessly for a few months. I specifically waited for a period of time before writing this review just to make sure it wasn't going to go up in smoke soon after I bought it. It's true, there are a few rough edges in the programming, some clunky operational quirks, and if I were to give it any single negative mark, it would be for the rather loud audio "pop" that is audible on unit power up. However, that pop is only heard when you have an external audio system attached. The included stand and rather amusing outrigger "stabilizers" are rather shaky, but if this television were mounted to a wall unit or anything similar using the VESA mounts, that lack of stability would be a non-issue. All in all, the picture quality is good the ease of operation is acceptable, and for the money, you simply cannot. Check back with me in six months or year I will see if it's still running as well :-)

This is my third Westinghouse TV in use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my third Westinghouse TV and I'd buy a fourth. I own two 40" like this one, and a 46 inch. I love my older 40 inch, a great product for the price. But I was surprised that the slightly newer unit, has a slim edge with the picture appearing to to have no end and simply expand into the room. It doesn't "fade" instead it has the illusion of a much larger screen. The picture is crisp and the sound is good, (although not quite as loud as I'd like with an A/C unit running,) and has many features associated with far more expensive units. I watched for this to come on sale and I scarfed it up...a great buy at normal price- even better with a discount. I live in a large house. When the next older TV goes, I'll buy another Westinghouse.

Great tv for the $, remote and outputs lacking
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this as a secondary tv to put up in a game room for the teenage kids. Wanted an inexpensive tv so that in the event they happen to cause damage to it, it would not make me totally regret buying it. The display looks great for $220 and that is exactly what I bought the tv for. However, I must point out that the remote control that come with it foes not work very well. While directly in front of the tv only 2ft away I still have to press some buttons multiple times. Back away to the chair across the room and it is more difficult to use the remote. No matter how inexpensive the tv, the remote should still serve it's function. Lastly, the only audio output this TV has besides HDMI is an Optical port. While both of these are great, the 5.1 bookshelf stereo I previously had hooked up to my old tv cannot be used for surround sound tv anymore becuase it only has component connections. I recognize this is not a problem of the tv, but I am disappointed none the less.
