Where is the Chesterfield King? [DVD] [2000]

Release Date:09/13/2005
This shot-on-video comedy starring garage rock revivalists the Chesterfield Kings arrives on DVD in a release that confirms home video is the ideal vehicle for this purposefully goofy bit of fan fodder. Where Is The Chesterfield King? has been transferred to disc in the full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1. The image has been overlaid with film scratches and emulsion spots to give it the look of an old movie, but that doesn't prevent the material from resembling a home video or a public access television project more than anything else, though in context it often lends the proceedings an endearingly amateur vibe that meshes with the goofball humor. The audio has been mastered in two formats, Dolby Digital Stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1; the musical sequences sound fine, though the dialogue recording is occasionally just as clunky as the photography. The dialogue is in English, with no subtitles or multiple language options. Bonus material featured on this edition includes four songs culled from live performances by the Chesterfield Kings, a music video for the song "Where Do We Go From Here" featuring former Paul Revere and the Raiders vocalist Mark Lindsay (the same performance appears in the movie proper, but in black and white), a trailer for the movie, and footage from the movie's premiere screening. Fans of the Kings will get a chuckle out of this (and enjoy the live stuff), though others will probably find that the charm wears off quickly.
