A: Hello Paperbirch! This unit is manufactured to recirculate into the home but can be adjusted to vent to the outside. Thank you for your inquiry on our Whirlpool appliances.
A: User: Dontbuythis is full of misinformation! The unit can vent into the room (recirculating); the intake is through 2 charcoal/grease filters on the bottom & it vents out on top right behind the door. It can also be setup to vent horizontally through the wall or vertically through the roof. It comes out of the box setup for recirculation. The instructions DO NOT make this clear! If you simply want to vent into the room, don’t touch a thing! Also, dontbuythis keeps insisting the bulb is not replaceable, or that it will be $150 to have a new board put in. This is ridiculous! The halogen bulb is easily replaceable in both the over (one screw) and underneath (4 screws) and they are readily available online and in some stores.
A: I just purchased this Whirlpool microwave as part of an entire kitchen suite. I didn't research the Kitchenaid prior to purchase, but I did just review the specs and don't see any other differences. I am quite pleased with the Whirlpool microwave, probably my favorite of the four appliances. It seems to be very thoughtfully designed. For instance, if I put a mug into warm, and choose the 30 secs and go button on the outside, the mug handle stops in the exact same position as when I put in it. I replaced a range hood withe the microwave, the low profile was just what I needed. I also used Best Buy's installation services, they did a good job of converting the electric wires to an outlet and mounting the microwave. In the three weeks I have had it, I have only used the light, 30 sec and open buttons, all of which are on the outside. More detailed controls are available once the door is open, but I have not needed them so far. I can't see any downside to purchasing the Whirlpool vs the Kitchenaid.
Q: what is the internal height of the unit, ie how tall of a travel cup can you put in it?
A: 7 inches
Q: Where on earth is the start button? There are only 3 choices, +30sec, X, and open.
A: Plus 30 seconds is the start button. Plus 30 seconds starts the mucrowave. If you have entered a duration or time to cook, it does not add the 30 seconds. If you have not entered a time to cook.. it starts and cooks for 30 seconds.
A: Hello Eyeguy! No, this does not need to be vented to the outside. This model comes recirculated into the home. Thank you for your inquiry on our Whirlpool appliances.
Q: The operational instructions speak of a START button. Where is it?
A: The triangle on the outside on top with the 30 next to it. I wondered about this too. My teenager showed me how to use it!
A: I just measured the inside height of 7 inches.

Space saver! Works great, doesn't take up as much room as I thought it would, which is great. Looks nice, clean look with buttons under the door, but takes some getting used to. I'm glad the 30 second/start button is on the outside. Wish it had the quick minute buttons, for one minute or two minutes, I do miss that. I like the music it plays when it's done, that's nice. It also plays as a reminder if you forget your coffee or whatever in there.

I love this microwave. The low profile gives you lots of room over the stove and it is well thought out. The start button automatically gives you 30 seconds of time which is great for warming up most things. The light on the clock is not so bright that it lights up your kitchen like the Las Vegas strip which is a plus. The only minus I have is that there is no indicator light for the button to turn on the microwave lights over the stove so when the kitchen is dark in the morning I keep hitting the fan button by mistake

I love how small and stylish this microwave is. I just re-modeled my kitchen with new cabinets, tile, quartz, and other appliances. I did not intend on buying a microwave because I do not use them, but my husband insisted. I also did not want to spend a lot on the "other brand" microwave and found this one. It is very spacious with more than enough room to cook or re-heat anything. The under-microwave lights are a nice addition to illuminate your cooktop, and the fans seem to be fine and not too loud. It looks as good or better than the competition but at a much lower price. I would definitely purchase this again.
