Beautiful Look, But With Some Compromises

I've previously had two large side-by-side fridges. As most people know, these fridges have oodles of space in them, but are awkwardly narrow. You also get hot zones at the top of the unit, so frozen things aren't quite so frozen up top, etc. I was hoping this french door unit would resolve that. It hasn't quite. It's beautiful and gets lots of "oohs" and "ahhs" from guests for all the tricks it does, but fundamentally there are some issues. First, the positives: 1) Technology: If you're a geek for technology, get ready! The TEMPERATURE controls are embedded in that glitzy touch screen above the ice/water dispenser...they aren't knobs inside the unit like every other fridge I've ever had. Also, the thing has sensors that can tell if the door is open, so it'll start dinging after 5 minutes if you don't close the door! It also has the ability to lock the ice/water, which is nice if you have kids....and it can do a few other cutesy things too. Your money basically gets you touch screen design instead of buttons. Very fun for neighbors/guests, but you won't touch most of these buttons on a day-to-day basis. 2) FRIDGE space: Emphasis here on "fridge"...that upper portion of the unit. The unit makes great use of all the available space, with tons of adjustable cubbies, bins and shelves. If your diet is fridge-heavy, you'll really like all the shelves and space. And you'll love not having to bend down all the time to get things. It's incredibly ergonomically friendly. 3) French doors: As weird as it is adjusting to opening in a sequence (FIRST the right, then SECOND the left door...even my guests get confused) it really does make the space far more usable. It helps when I make big trays of food and need to chill them. Major improvement over side-by-side. 4) Perceived Quality: Everything (for the most part) feels very high quality and good for the price point. I will say that the crisper/veggie drawers seem a little flimsy, though. 5) General Operation Sound Level: This is pretty quiet, but you can still hear it. I'm not dissatisfied with the sound level when it's running. And because it's new, it doesn't run very much, which adds to the perception of quiet. The Negatives: 1) FREEZER Space: I was surprised at how little freezer space there is. It's not nothing, but compared to the side-by-side, there's quite a bit less space....hard to quantify, but let's say I can fit about 10 more tater tot bags in the side by side than this. This design is brutal because of the sliding drawers. You can't overfill the drawers (ONLY to the top of them!) so it makes me cautious to overbuy things. I tend to be a stocker at sales, so this is risky. It's the single biggest disappointment with the unit. Something about the drawer-face thickness (the face is so big!) and the plunging ceiling (is the compressor motor in there above the freezer?) makes it quite small. 2) Ice/Water Dispenser: The water flow is great, and the filter is easy to replace, but the ice comes out in lurching amounts...it's almost comical how erratically it dumps ice on people's hands as it spews out. And the ice machine isn't really muffled, so this whisper quite unit is abruptly loud when it dumps ice into the tray. Also, the paddles are awkward to use. They have virtually no travel to them at the prime pressure point where my glass hits them, so when you press your glass against them, sometimes they suddenly turn off. I find that I have to press my FINGERS against the BOTTOM of the paddles to get them to operate properly. A strange oversight on such an old concept. Overall, I'm happy enough with the look and feel of the unit to keep it, but I certainly would recommend that you trial the water/ice paddles AND the freezer space before buying to make sure you're satisfied with these detractions.

Let me start be saying I did research reviews prior to purchase so it wasn't like I didn't see it coming.... The fridge is awesome! I love the room and convenience of being able to put a sheet cake, lasagna pan or cookie sheet in without having to first rearrange an entire shelf to do it. It holds everything I need it to for my weekly trips to the store and I dare say, it actually keeps me organized. I open the door and can go right to what I need. The fruit and produce bin is at a level that I can look right at what is inside and make a determination of what needs to be consumed before it goes bad....no more science project surprises! And the freezer on the bottom is love! I just really fell in love with it and my feelings haven't changed about it. But......and again, I did see the review for this so I cant really say I should be mad but I am a little irritated about this one thing : The right door, if not shut first, does not close entirely and for whatever reason, the door open alarm will not sound. So every time I open both doors, I have to remind myself to close the right door first or else I find that when I go back to it...it is still ajar!! That.is.getting.on.my.last.nerve! I realize that because I absolutely love everything else about it.... I will just have to get used to checking before I step away. Just didn't think it would irritate me as much as it does. I would still recommend it but I would be very adamant about making sure you know that you will have to "think' about how you shut the door....for the life of ownership....of this fridge!

This refrigerator looks impressive. I don't LOVE that I have to open the right AND left door each time vs just being able to open one or the other. Its not a deal breaker though, just something to get used to. The only other things I have issue with is the lever for the water and ice. I wish it was the standard old lever up at the top that you press in. This one you have to slide your cup in and press it against the center of the bar that runs down behind it. It Is awkward if your cup is too tall or you are using a pitcher, bowl, etc.. Ice drawer is difficult to pull out. Was told by delivery guy that it would get easier. Water filter is not super easy to get out or put in, but it's manageable. Tons of room though! I love the freezer on the bottom. So much easier to organize things in the refrigerator. Everything is so easy to see. No need to practically get on your hands and knees to see what's back there in the bottom of your fridge!! I read that it was a bit loud. I haven't noticed it being any louder than most. The ice dropping can be heard and the water filling the ice trays. Only takes a couple seconds and it's not crazy loud... it's about average. Also read that people had issues getting protective plastic off doors. Not a problem here. Just run your fingernail back and forth a couple times in the crease of the is any plastic residue left... then wipe. It was super easy. Outside side walls are very durable. Front resists fingerprints well.

My old GE fridge gave up after 12 years of use, I was expecting it to die at anytime because it was making such a noise, like a motorcycle running inside. I was needing a new fridge asap, and I didn't have a time to shop around or to compare similar items performance. Since, I had a good experience with Best Buy store when I replaced washer and dryer 2 years ago. I Checked Best Buy online, I saw reasonable refrigerators and with the guarantee of a price match up. After, scrolling different models, I liked this one. My wife and I went to the store to see how it looked. We liked it, bought it, and waited for delivery. They delivered 3 days later because we ordered on a Saturday. They delivered this Whirpool fridge in mint conditions, the delivery guys not only installed our new fridge professionally but at the same time they hauled my old one. We loved this fridge, it is nice looking, silent, and it is performing very well, no problems whatsoever. We're so satisfied with Best Buy shopping experience, once again.

We looked everywere for a new fridge, and bought this as a replacement for a side by side in a new house. We bought one last year that was very similar (a Kenmore made by Whirlpool with a similar layout inside that we really liked). The black stainless is really sharp and resists fingerprints (but doesn't eliminate them). The ice maker looks easier to replace if it breaks compared to other brands, which was important to us. It isn't whisper quiet... it is a fridge. But it isn't any louder than any other one we've had. It is only noticebly loud for maybe 20 seconds every half hour, and only a very small annoyance at night. I'm not sure if it is part of the cooling or making ice. The bins are sturdy enough, especially at this price point. One point: make sure you have a water line that isn't really narrow diameter. We were told we needed a new one for the install, and the one we bought wouldn't send enough water through. We hooked up the old copper line and it worked great. Overall I would highly recomend it. At this price point you won't do any better.

We bought this Refrigerator to replace the Whirlpool that we couldn't get fixed for there was a backlog of replacement parts. Geek Squad was great in facilitating the exchange. We love it! We did our research especially after the problem that we had with the previous one, and the size and features were comparable. The only concerns that we have noticed was that the ice has a tendency to shoot out very quickly sometimes which is taking a little bit to get used to, and the size of this one was a little larger than the previous one It's supposed to be 68.625 without the door hinge, which was the same size as the previous one, but it had to be taller for we had to adjust our cabinets to get it in the same spot as the other one. Otherwise, so far, so good. The space is great, everything fit with space to spare. No problems with this one at all Great Fridge!

I've only had this Whirlpool - 24.7 Cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator a few days. the first two days it was very loud and the ice falling into the tray startled the bejeezers out of me from a deep slumber. that said, after a few days, this is by far the best refrigerator I've ever had. been paying for and drinking 'Smart' water for years. No More. properly drained and with the included filter, this unit provides great tasting water. like from a stream in the mountains of Michoacán. it IS quieter after about three days other than a frequent hum when it activates, as ALL full size refrigerators do. so far I'm happy with this unit ...

About everything I would have expected from a good refrigerator except this one has a major design flaw. If you open the left door, grab what you need and then let go of the door for it to close, it does not close. There is an inside flap that prevents it from being gently closed. If you open the left door and force it shut, that inside flap causes the right door to open up and stay open. This is a huge problem and often the doors to remain open. You have to always open the door on the right first and close only the left door first before closing the right door. This is very annoying and I am willing to bet that they scrap this design and model because it is so awful. Everything else about the refrigerator is fine.
