A good, varied CD from an important band

Band of Horses' first two CDs were so good and beautiful that their solid subsequent two CDs, particularly 2012's Mirage Rock, were disappointing. Why Are You OK, while not Band of Horses' best CD, is good and varied. Why Are You OK has Casual Party, the band's best single in a long time, as well as the sweet, nostalgic In a Drawer, which has backing vocals by J Mascis, catchy songs Solemn Oath and Throw My Mess and good mellow songs Whatever, Whenever and Country Teen.

After their last album didn't quite hit the mark, they sure made up for it with, "Are You Ok". The first song on the album hits you with that soul-touching, rich sound that they are known for and the rest of the album follows suit and flows incredibly well. You will miss out if you just buy tracks, this is meant to be heard as an album. It's beautiful.

Band of Horses were both lucky, and unlucky to come around at the time of My Morning Jackets peak. In one respect they rode their wave of what Jim James and company brought along to their own popularity. Songs like Funeral hit different Chords with many listeners. This album shows them stretch out their legs and really come into their own.

Decent album by a really good band that often flies under the radar. There are a few good songs on the record, but many are on the slow side. This record is more for those who are already fans of the band.

If you enjoyed other records by Band of Horses, you will definitely enjoy this one too. It's got their same sound, but with new catchy tunes that feel familiar right away. So glad I bought it.

While it's not equal to the quality of their first two albums, this is a marked improvement over the last two efforts. Sounds like a welcome return to form. It gets better with repeat listenings.

Every bit what you would want from BOH. So easy to listen to. Their sound is unique and down to earth. Especially love Dull Times / The moon and In a Drawer. Highly recommended.

I own all of Band of Horses albums. This album continues the same path of great southern alternative rock. If you enjoy mellow rock with elements of country. You should enjoy this.
