    Synopsis

    Windtalkers
Loosely based on a real-life operation during World War II, this action-adventure from director John Woo stars Nicolas Cage as Joe Enders, a Marine traumatized by the loss of his entire platoon in the Solomon Islands during an ambush he believes was deadlier than necessary due to his indecision. Suffering from eardrum damage in Hawaii, Joe manages to be declared fit for duty once again thanks to a sympathetic nurse (Frances O'Connor), but his new assignment isn't what he expects. Joe is ordered to safeguard a Navajo soldier named Ben Yahzee (Adam Beach) because the military has developed a new secret code based on the near-dead Navajo language that is proving unbreakable to the Japanese. Any soldier that speaks Navajo is an immediate asset, including Ben and his pal, Charlie Whitehorse (Roger Willie). Joe's orders are to "baby sit" Ben during the invasion of Saipan, protecting him if possible, but -- if the code-talker's capture becomes imminent -- to kill him before he falls into enemy hands. Meanwhile, Charlie is to be guarded by affable harmonica player Ox Henderson (Christian Slater). Joe reluctantly accepts this new duty as a way to get back into the war, and in the ensuing carnage, his nearly suicidal acts of bravery make him a hero while Ben becomes paralyzed by fear. Determined to live up to Joe's example, Ben musters up his courage, even in the face of racism from a fellow soldier (Noah Emmerich), and ends up rescuing his own protector behind enemy lines by briefly posing as a Japanese soldier. Despite their growing mutual respect, Joe is eventually forced to take an action that threatens to shatter his bond with Ben, as the war's tragic losses strike closer to home for both men. Windtalkers co-stars Peter Stormare, Jason Isaacs, and Mark Ruffalo. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

This is a very good dramatization of who the Code Talkers were and how they helped the U.S win the war in the Pacific during WW2. It's not a well known fact that the U.S. Army reached out to Native America to create a code based on their language that the Japanese could not break. It's especially poignent as the last Code Talker just passed away this year. They did a Great Service for the U.S even after how the U.S. and the Army treated them for hundreds of years. The story has it's high points and low points and some of it is very stylized for the U.S. audience. It does in fact show what they went through and the lengths, the sacrifice that these brave men lived through to not give up their code.

This movie was over all very good. Perhaps not in the way an old John Wayne movie would of been, but then if the Duke made a movie today it's probably be of this kind. The acting was good, the scenes excellentlly photographed, yet having the star die was typical of this type, and especially for Nick Cage who seems to die in a lot of his latest movies. See it for yourself, he dies a lot. I would recommend this movie to a friend, even by it if the price was right. Mine was. I enjoyed the prompt delivery and the no shipping fee. I'll be buying more from Best Buy in the future if it continues.

Very good movie about a small key to the outcome of World War 2. The code was critical to our success, just as the lives were of the many men and women that fought for us. May the Lord be with them and their families and thank them for their dedicated service. Like the many men and women in the Middle East who fight for our freedoms today. Well worth watching to have an understanding of something so small that can help American soldiers. Great actors, great story line. Very nice ending.

I Love Windtalkers. I also read the book. Nicholas Cage plays a heck of a role. He is a veteran soldier and officer who leads a company of men into intense battle. He is given the task of protecting the army's navajo code, not the code talker! Its very emotional and dramatic as he struggles to deal with the moral and emotional side of his assignment. It has a great plot, and is an emotional roller coaster. The battle scenes are intense as well. You will really enjoy this film...its more than a war movie, it has real substance!

I know some like graininess in there movies to look old school but this transfer just seemed like a DVD quality one. The movie is an ok film but could have focused more one Navajo. The lack of special features is disappointing as this could have dived deep into those involved in the Navajo nation.

So many secrets during war and now one comes out. At first it is hard to believe another Marine would agree to take another Marine's life, if necessary. But once you see the movie you will understand why.
