Good! it is Still Working..!

The pro's: I paid $135 total since I have a $25 gift card... console came in about 8 days, in really new condition, not scratches, and silver on the front which makes me think it was an Xbox Pro before and they just took the H D off, it comes with Microsoft's Warranty which is 1 year for regular defects and 3 years for the rings of dead... it included the DVI cable which I didnt expected!!!
The con's: The controller didn't worked with AA Alkaline's, I tried to use it on another Xbox and didn't worked then i bought a Play and Charge Kit, and tried again with the Fully Charged Battery it worked perfect... so it didnt bothered me that much... but it does not have any Memory at all, I think because it was an Xbox Pro before so it had a HD and after removing it you wont have any memory at all... so I had to buy a 20gig HD and got no more problems...
Overall, and after being my first time getting a refurbished it has been a good expreciende.. already played some games which should turn the red rings on and console still works great..!

Never get a refurbished 360

If you are going to buy the 360, buy new and get a Jasper based one. The way to look for Jasper 360s is to look for 12.1A (amps) and it will have been manufactured at the earliest, November 2008.
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/jasper_find.jpg
The reason is that the Jasper chips are smaller producing less heat. Heat from the chips is the main cause for many red ring of death failures. When the heat gets too hot, the heat sinks loosen and eventually the thermal paste that they use will crack. Also, the soldering that they used was not done correctly in the early models. You can Google about reflowing the solder points online as well as the red ring of death issues. These refurbished 360s are ones the have been returned for the red ring of death issue and Microsoft may or may not have replaced the motherboard. More likely though, they reapplied the thermal paste, reattached the heat sinks and used the same X-Clamps that also is one of the root causes of the red ring of death.
And for the record, I own a refurbished 360. I've opened it and fixed the red ring of death before and it has lasted for many months. But now, it has started acting up again. Save yourself the headache and buy new and look for the Jasper units.
***Note: Microsoft will NOT make it easy for you to tell which unit is which. They have a lot of inventory to move so good luck.***

Elite won't help

The Elite won't save you. After 1.75 years of ownership I was given an option to pay $100 + S/H for an overheating box. I kept it out of any enclosures in a well ventilated area but I still got 2 of the 4 rings of death which indicate over heating. You get 3 years of coverage if you manage to get 3 rings of death. I would definitely get an extended warranty.

Beware of Refurbished XBox 360

Decided not listen to the critics and help my son purchase an xbox 360. I've always had good luck with electronics and couldn't believe Microsoft was manufacturing a defective item. WAS i wrong. System only lasted 5 days. According to the best buy employee, the only system that works is the xbox 360 elite. Lesson learned.

the xbox is great, bought a refurbished one for my son for christmas of 09,he loves it very much, came with everything you need to get started playing games, great price for this unit, but when will it stop working that is another thing, will it or wont it,who knows, but we love it and thats all that matters, for me at this price, if it stops working bring it back or get a new one, very cheap to replace, the money dont matter if it puts a smile on a childs face right,i think its a fair price for everyone, its not going to break the bank.
