This is an interesting glimpse into the the history of Jimi Hendrix, in his "pre-Experience" days. But as one can infer from the CD cover, this recording shows Hendrix "the sideman", serving the songwriting and singing of Curtis Knight . There are no mind-blowing guitar solos here. The selling draw here is still obviously Hendrix, because of the history he made later on his own. Also, if you're a fan of early-mid Sixties rock & roll, in the vein of Stax Records, it's a fine listen. However, some of the songwriting has something to be desired. And again, it's more of a Hendrix curiosity than anything else at this time.

Up until this point those wishing to hear a pre-famous Jimi Hendrix's studio sessions for Curtis Knight were forced to rely on hastily released albums designed to capitalize on his fame and/or poor quality bootlegs. For the first time Hendrix's family has properly gathered the best sides from his sessions with Knight and remastered the on one CD. While the actual songs are often nothing special, due mostly to the abilities, or lack thereof, of the frontman Knight, Hendrix talent is evident. This CD is a great collection of early Hendrix work and a preview for the great feats he would accomplish a few years later.

As I stated, some very early guitar playing. Not at all what most of us are used to hearing as with The Jimi Hendrix Experience. That would come some months later. But what we do have here is another stepping stone of the ever evolving Jimmy Hendrix as he was presented as. He changed the spelling of his name with The Experience and of course his innovative guitar playing and song writing came to fruitation ever expanding with each album he released. So, this is a CD that can be considered Historic. But in my most humble opinion, Just not something I'd listen to that often. It does look nice in my Hendrix collection though.
