Excellent addition to any collection
|Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. The steel book is an automatic way of showing your love for this, or any movie, honestly. The photos on the front & back of the case are amazing. The photos on the inside of the case are well placed. Over all, would buy it again. It’s so well done.

Anime Love Story with A Twist
|Posted .I saw this film at the theaster, liked it so much I had to buy the Blu-ray when it came available. Full movie, not an adaption of TV Show Series.

An absolutely incredible film
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI can't say enough about this movie. I was lucky enough to catch it in a limited theater release here in the states, and it completely blew me away... not just me, but everyone in the theater. This was the only time in my life when the movie ended, the lights came up, and we all just sat there in silence. Nobody could speak or move or it would break the spell; it was like we all needed to be there to decompress together before venturing back out into reality. Since then I have anxiously waited for the DVD to be available here so I can show it to everyone I know, because I feel like this is the kind of movie everyone can enjoy and everyone should see. Even if you're not big into anime or animated movies in general, although you will appreciate it even more if you are. The animation is beautiful, but it's the story... it takes you on an emotional rollercoaster, grips hold of you hard and doesn't let go. The range of emotions I experienced while watching this was just astounding and unexpected.

Shinkai's Opus, the Great Culmination of His Art
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.I've followed Makoto Shinkai's work since the beginning when he released Voices of Distant Star, and he ranks among my favorite directors ever amid the likes of Spielberg, Nolan, Thomas Anderson, and various others. I already own the collector's edition 4K release of this, imported from Japan, but this steelbook was too good to pass up for it's lovely packaging, included digital copy, and of course blu-ray version that I can utilize as my loaner copy to friends. Audio quality is solid as is the vibrant imagery and picture quality. Included special features are a nice addition as well, and the digital copy seems to work well enough via the Funimation app. I've yet to watch the English dub myself, but it's nice that it's there for people interested. I'm not a sub/dub elitist by any means, my only exposure to the film has been in Japanese is all. Highly recommend this film if you haven't seen it. A trademark of most all of Shinkai's work is the focus on a centralized relationship and the intimacy therein between his characters. This element is always a poignant, emotional grounding force even amid all manner of fantastical elements that occur surrouding the chracters throughout all of his stories.

Like Freaky Friday, but uniquely different
|Posted .Owned for 1 year when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendPremise of the movie is simple: Taki is a young man who lives in Tokyo, while Mitsuha is a young woman who lives in a small town. They've never met, yet they are connected by strings of fate. One day they start randomly swapping bodies for a day. At first they just they think it's just a weird dream, until their friends ask them about why they were acting weird. As they realize what's going on, they have to contend with the various differences of big city vs small town, male vs female, while not revealing anything to their friends. They start becoming friends, perhaps even more over time, until suddenly they stop swapping. As his memories start to fade, Taki tries to find the small town where Mitsuha lives to confess, only to find a surprise is waiting for him. I'll let you find out what that surprise is, if you want. The music is performed by a group called Radwimps who actually sing their songs in both languages, and it is really great, the whole soundtrack (like the movie in my opinion) is amazing. Fun Fact: They even did a live concert in Japan to the movie so you can see the orchestra performing the songs with the movie in the background on Youtube, but they are set during spoiler scenes, so watch the movie first.

Best anime film I've seen for a while!
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendI'm a pretty casual anime fan. I've seen most of Studio Ghibli movies, Akira, and maybe a dozen of other anime features. Don't watch any shows. Stumbled across this just by chance and glad I did! From an animation standpoint, I've never seen anything better! Not just in anime, but all animated films. CoMix Wave Films animation studio attention to detail and use of colors is really out-of-this-world (Garden of Words by same studio and director/writer is another example)! Original music for the movie by a Japanese band called Radwimps and the orchestra score are all great and go well with scenes in the movie. English voice-overs are also top notch for an anime. The story is the best part but I don't want to give anything away beyond the description of the movie which doesn't really do the movie justice. Honestly, the description is why I almost didn't give this movie a chance to begin with but at least it gives you a clue or starting point on what the movie is about. Really makes the movie not sound special...but it is! Had a couple big twists that I didn't see coming is all I will say. Only thing I would say negative (if you can call it that) about it is it's more of a teenager age and up movie. It isn't "My Neighbor Totoro" where it is more aimed at kids. Not because there is nudity, violence, and language, but kids will just have a hard time staying interested with the story. I just mention that as I could see that being a negative review for the movie. All in all, I recommend this if you like anime or animation films in general.

A Modern Day Classic.
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendYour Name (Kimi no Na wa) is - in my humble opinion - one of the greatest anime films ever made. Is it perfect? Definitely not, but the emotional power of this film overshadows the plot sometimes becoming a little too lofty for its own good. And my goodness, it might be the most beautiful anime I have ever seen. It's gorgeous and on my 65 in 4k TV, I felt completely immersed in the world that Shinkai has created. Don't hesitate to buy this. The ending is so emotionally satisfying that I have seen it before, and was still on the edge of my seat, heart pounding. Looking forward to whatever the director decides to make next (he hasn't made a bad movie yet). Go get this!!

Great Movie
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendIt's rare that I buy a movie (in the store) that I haven't seen yet, especially on Blu-ray. But everyone was telling me to watch it and being a fan of this director's other movie "Weathering With You" I just had to buy this movie. Honestly, I didn't think it was the magnum opus that everyone made it out to be it still really really dang good. Definitely check it out.
