A: Different charger. This is going to be the new MacBook Air/Pro charger from now on. The previous was MagSafe 2, which had a middle period with Thunderbolt/USB C. The new MagSafe 3 adapters only work with 2021 models, and likely the upcoming M2 models.
A: Yes, this is straight from Apple. If you buy from Amazon, you don't know if it's real or a fake as they all share similar Apple packaging. I've never received a fake from Best Buy. I tried this replacement cord on both my Macbook Pro M1 and M2, works on both. These are the Mac laptops compatible with MagSafe 3: 2022 MacBook Air, 14-inch MacBook Pro introduced in 2021 or later and 16-inch MacBook Pro introduced in 2021 or later.
