Needs revision Posted by: from: on Purchased the fire HD 10 as an e-reader with a larger screen that could interpret colors in texts. Returned the unit 15 hours after I purchased it. The good: the sound, the appearance of the device. The bad: Heavy; slow; the screen froze often when using the interactive components of the kindle reader (accessing font size, etc); the resolution was okay for graphics, poor for text (fuzzy). Way too much bloatware from Amazon; it is very clear that the purpose of the Fire HD-10 is to sell Amazon products. Couldn't download Chrome, or any app not approved by Amazon. Exchanged this device for a Samsung Tablet S2. Immediately noticed improvements in speed, performance, availability in apps, and resolution. Even Amazon's Kindle works better on the Samsung then it does on the Amazon Fire. Happy to return the Amazon Tablet and very happy with Samsung.

Perfect for reading, not perfect for me Posted by: from: on I needed a tablet for school (reading ebooks, watching study videos, performing online simulations) and I'm normally an Apple girl (macbook and iphone) but didn't want to spend Apple prices so I purchased the Amazon Fire HD 10 with hopes that it would do the job. The fire HD is perfect for reading and listening to music and also surfing the web; however, the resolution for watching videos whether on youtube, Netflix, etc. is really bad. I'm sure the large size of the screen plays a role but the resolution is honestly terrible. Also, it was a bit glitchy in terms of wifi connection because it would continue to disconnect me and I'd have to reconnect. Finally, I am used to Apple products so trying to navigate an Android was a new experience (one I personally didn't like). So in terms of using this tablet for reading and a small amount of web surfing, it's great for the money. In terms of a student and my own needs, this tablet just wasn't for me. Good product overall though!

It is really good for what it's intended Posted by: from: on Ok, so I am an apple fan and have iphone, ipad, iwatch, macbook pro, etc. When I bought this I was really really hesitant reading all the bad expert reviews out there on lack of speed and terrible display.quality. ALL WRONG. Yes, this is no trailblazing ipad or razor sharp retina but for consuming media from amazon prime its good enough. Movies, magazines, books and simple games run smoothly and look good enough with great colors. So if that is what you intend to do with a tablet go ahead and buy it and save the extra 300 bucks it costs to get an ipad. Tip: this tablet's rectangular shape is awesome for watching movies and much better than the ipad's square display.

Kindle has lost its pizzazz Posted by: from: on This is the worst device I've ever turned on. From the initial activation (registering it with my Amazon account) to finding out that the battery drains immediately, I was very disappointed with this Kindle. The graphics display is terribly pixelated and hard to read, apps and books download at a maddeningly slow pace, and the battery drained to zero overnight while in hibernation mode. I only bought it yesterday but can't take one more day with it and will be returning it immediately. Not sure who is giving this a positive review except someone who has never picked up any kind of tablet before.

Too many "gotchas" Posted by: from: on My initial evaluation was that this was a really nice tablet for the money, at least for simple browsing, gaming, and books. After 2 days of frustration I returned it and got a Samsung Galaxy Tab E with pretty much the same specs for the same price. The Fire 5.0 OS is very restrictive. 1) You can not change the start screen or the wallpaper 2) You can not download apps from the Google playstore which is clearly the largest online source. You can only use Amazon's app store and they are missing a lot of apps that I use frequently. 3) Every time you wake it up it flashes an ad at you.....I did not buy it to be forced to watch a bunch of useless advertising. 4) The camera takes fuzzy pictures....not terrible, but just not as sharp and detailed as they should be. 5) the software tries very hard to get you to sign up for paid Amazon service. You don't HAVE to but you will not be able to view much in the way of movies/videos if you don't. As I mentioned, it took me 2 days of frustration to discover all this before taking it back to Best Buy where they quickly assisted me in exchanging it for the Galaxy Tab E. It took me about an hour to download my favorite apps and get it all set up just the way I wanted it. Lesson learned.

Nice Upgrade from Fire HD 7 Posted by: from: on This is my 3rd Kindle Fire, I also have the first generation and a 7” HD. The first thing that impresses is how thin and light this new model is, despite being the largest Fire to date. I love the more narrow, widescreen design of the screen, perfect for watching videos and reading books in portrait mode. Anyway, before I get carried away gushing, I’ll just list my pros and one or two cons, to make this easier to read and save time. PROS: Wide screen design is perfect for videos and allows more text on a page for books. The stereo speakers sound incredible, even better than the previous HDX model For comic book readers; comics purchased from Amazon now utilize the active panel reading mode from Comixology. I was wondering when Amazon was going to incorporate this feature for their comics, finally! Considerably faster response time across the board. Finally! We can add a micro SD card to expand storage capacity! Yay! The camera takes photos that are much better quality than previous Fire Love the new OS, It's cleaner without the old carousel taking up most of the screen with everything looked at. CONS: Would have preferred a rubberized back and case. The glossy finish is a fingerprint magnet also.

Great if you only use Amazon apps- buyer beware Posted by: from: on None of the reviews mention that Amazon will not allow you to load certain applications on your device. You cannot load google apps, You Tube, Instagram, and Minecraft just to name a few. Not being able to load Google maps was the deal breaker for me and I returned the device for a Samsung Tablet. I would also recommend that you go to Best Buy and check out the look and feel of the tablet before buying ...the Kindle Fire 10 is longer and not as wide as other tablets which was a bit unappealing to me.

Too Slow for me Posted by: from: on I am not a gamer, I simply like to go through to read news, sports, and I shop around a little on my tablet. I have had this for a yr and i have been very disappointed in it's performance. Specifically the speed to move from site to site. I have just moved on to a surface pro but I am motivated to let anyone looking at tablets know that if you are looking to use this online I would suggest moving to a different product. Anything that is downloaded if fine but the processer is incredibly slow.

Pricey for what you get Posted by: from: on Overall this is not a bad tablet. The size is nice, the display is great. The price was a little higher than other comparable tablets. It keeps dropping the wi-fi even when I'm sitting next to the router. When you register your new Kindle, they auto enroll you into Kindle Unlimited. Didn't know I had it, and still don't know what it is. But I found out I'm paying $10.69/month for it. Had to call to cancel it.
