Skeptical but turning in to a believer!

My first uses left a little to be desired but as i get better at using it and understanding how to use it...the results are out standing. Well worth the additional time it takes to prepare the food Sous vide...steaks are delicious. starting to cook other items. great way to cook and wife and daughter (my food critics) absolutely love the results.

Makes the perfect Fried Chicken. I marinated the chicken in butter milk and spices, cooked it using the sous vide for 4 hours, then I coated it with corn starch and deep fried it for 5 mins or until golden brown.

Cook this way and change your life!

Simple concept. Seal food in a bag, submerge in water at the minimum temperature when done, for the proper time: For me: Fish for 30 minutes at 122 then remove immediately for best results, lamb at 131 for at least 3 hours, turkey at 144 for at least 3 hours, chicken also at 144 for at least two hours. Since cooking to the perfect temperature when done, can remove from water bath at any time. No over cooking, even hours later. Photo of salmon seasoned with capers.

Cooking made easy
Posted by: OnlineGuy from: Dearborn, MI on
Bought this due to other reviews I've read online for this particular model. Wasn't quite sure what to expect even after reading about it from multiple sources.
The first thing I noticed was how big the unit was compared to what is pictured. I don't think the pictures really show you the size of this thing, it is BIG... but it does move quite a bit of water so it just comes with the territory.
I've only made one meal with it, but it was so simple and came out delicious that it will be great to use on occasion. I don't think this is a "use it for every meal" type solution as it takes a lot of time to cook, even though it is very fast preparation wise. One more heads up that I never noticed in other reviews is that it takes a lot of time just to get the water to the right temperature. Took a good 20 minutes just for that in my first use.
But, the chicken came out perfectly cooked... evenly through and through which is the point of this thing. Seems well built and I suspect it will last me quite a while. One other note is that the Wi-Fi version supposedly allows you turn it on from anywhere with your cell phone (so you can start cooking on your way home from work for example). That's the biggest difference I've noticed between the 2 models. But, like I mentioned before, I don't see this as a replacement to cook all meals so not a big issue to me.
All and all, I think you get what you pay for with this thing!

The Anova Precision Cooker, is a great kitchen tool that everyone should have. It will make a cheap cut of meat taste like you paid $40 at an upscale restaurant. The Bluetooth feature is great to keep an eye on how things are going, without needing to be in the kitchen. You don't need to use any fancy vacuum sealed bags for this, a Ziploc bag with the air removed works just as well, and a large pot. I definitely recommend getting this as a gift for yourself, a friend or family member who loves to cook, or someone who wants to experiment more in the kitchen.

Awesome cooking tool/aide

It's great buying expensive cuts of meat and not fearing that I'll mess it up when I actually go to cook it. The anova will heat the food to the precise temp for medium rare, and. It get cooked more than that. Sear the meat and enjoy, would recommend to anyone to give it a try

Made the best steak ever
Posted by: Steveo from: on
I started watching YouTube videos on sous vide cooking and just had to get this when I saw it on sale for black Friday. I made the best steak I have ever eaten, about an hour or 2 depending on how thick. Then throw it in the grill to finish it off!
Sous Vide make cooking super easy. Throw your food in, go do your business, drink a beer, whatever you need to do. When you are ready to eat just fire up the grill or frying pan to give your food a nice sear and enjoy the best food you have ever eaten!
The reason I gave the Anova 4 stars is its the only device I have ever used, so I cant compare to other devices. I think the wifi version might be better since you can remote start it depending G on how well it holds a connection.
This device is easy to use. The app is okay, I normally just use the controls on the unit

Easy to cook

Easiest way to cook food to the perfect temps. You can set it and forget it, and then sear for 60 seconds and be good to go!

Excellent entry-level Sous Vide instrument!

I've always wanted to try Sous Vide cooking after reading so much about it online. Supposedly, it's the best way to cook steak. Well, I do love me some steak, so when the ANOVA Precision Cooker showed up in front of me, on sale, when I was waiting in line on Black Friday, I took it as a sign.
Bought it, picked up some steaks the next day. Set it up using the easy to follow instructions on the app, and I was cooking. About 45 minutes later, it was done, and I was searing. It was a good steak. I would talk about the steak more, but the review is for the ANOVA.
Cooking Sous Vide requires some research and some kitchen know-how, because you need to figure out if, a) your item will Sous Vide, and b) how will you "finish" the dish. The ANOVA takes the guesswork out of rare vs. med-rare and (ugh) well-done. The app has some useful guidelines and recipes. I would say that the app can get confusing, so just navigate it carefully. Also, the pairing can get wonky if you fall out of range of the device. On some occasions, my timers got reset, which was not that big of a problem, but I feel that I should share it. I'm thinking I should pick up a dedicated tablet/device for my kitchen, so this wouldn't happen again.
The ANOVA does its job. The big reason that I did not give it a 5-star rating was the app. You don't need the app to cook sous vide with it, but it's super helpful when you do.
