I love APC UPS systems Posted by: from: on I have an APC UPS system on all my major electronic equipment: my wife's embroidery machine, our plasma display, our LED TVs, and our computers. I have not "lost" an electronic to lightning surge since I started using these ~ 1990. I also have a dedicated APC UPS on my modem, router and extension cords running to my router security cameras. This keeps an eye on my vacation home even during power outages. The only downside, as an electronic technician, their use of "apparent power" as Volts*Amps, vs their usage of Watts (which is the voltage times the current (measured in amps). 700VA is actually 420 Watts. This sleight of hand, is an advertising issue, make their units appear better than they are. The box will give the Watts, and that is what you need to look for when deciding which unit to purchase. If you want to run 400 watts, for 62 minutes during a power outage -- say four 100 watt lightbulbs... the 720VA (420 watts) will do it. I don't recommend using an UPS as an emergency power source. Instead think of it, as bonus time to get to your electronics, and safely shut them off.

Great little battery backup... Posted by: from: Redding, CA on Bought this to help with some power fluctuations in an office, turned out to be another problem. Installed in another location to provide backup power for a switch and server in an area that is prone to power loss due to human error (vacuum gets priority over network for some reason). Looking forward to not having the problem any more as the alarm should get their attention! Installation was easy, just plug in the battery, plug in the cord and plug in the devices... can't get too much more simple than that.

Good product, good value Posted by: from: Birmingham, Alabama on My review is based more on past experience with APC products, than the actual performance of this particular item. It's hard to provide a really comprehensive review on an item designed for many years' use, after only a month or so. BUT.... This UPS has performed well, so far. My experience with other UPC products extends back 20-ish years. In that time, I've never had a less-than-positive experience with a wide array of APC products, used with everything from laptop computers to servers, to communications equipment. Just as with any product of this type, I've had to replace batteries--again, after years of use--but that's just a standard occurrence. I've never had an APC unit fail, and I've never suffered loss of equipment or data because of an issue with any of these products. I've bought a lot of 'em in the past, and I'll probably look to APC products in the future.

OK, but... Posted by: from: Dallas, TX on It works fine but doesn't have a lot of capacity to support a lot of devices (it has more than enough plugs for the capacity). It has one feature that caused me to regret the purchase - you can't turn off the audible alarm. If the power goes off or if you have a brown out the alarm goes off and won't stop until the condition is corrected or you power off the unit (and everything thats connected to it). That's a VERY BAD feature. Spend the extra bucks and get a UPS that allows you to turn off the audible alarm (like the larger APC 1500VA unit) - you'll be happy you did (or, if you don't, you'll regret the decision one of these days - if you'r lucky it won't be at 3 am...).

Gets The Job Done Posted by: from: Bluffton SC on I have 3 at home--2 for iMac's & 1 for Modem & Router on my network. These are the original ones bought over 5 years ago & have just replaced the internal batteries. We get outages every so ofter here in SC primarily due to storms so these work great & keep the computers & internet access alive!

I Learned the Hard Way ... so Buy This now! Posted by: from: on I purchased this because we've had some electrical storms each year and each time I was having to buy a new wireless router because the other one got fried. So I learned my lesson and bought 2 of these for our business. 1 goes to our main computer and the other goes to the electrical/network equipment. In the event of a storm I know I'm good because not only will this provide enough time to shut the computer down properly but it will also provide surge protection to those items set on the APC UPS. Great item.

Great Backup Posted by: from: on Bought this on Deal of the Day. We use this brand at work but not this specific model. When I saw it on sale I decided to pick it up for my son, really. If the power goes out, our satellite goes out and Sesame Street disappears. This stops all of that from happening and my son doesn't miss his little red monster. It has spots for surge protection and seperate slots for the battery backup. Works great!

APC is the baja vehicle of battery UPS units Posted by: from: on Hello all, If you have been an IT professional for years, you know APC is the standard when it comes to battery backups. We've used Tripplite, and Cyberpower and prefer the APC units. This unit is no exception, you can tell just by the weight of the box when you pick it up vs. the Cyberpower. Not all UPS units are equal-- don't skimp when it comes to power protection, the extra $ you save with an inferior product will cost you later. They provide a network cable to not only protector your power supply in your PC, but also your Ethernet port (which can save your motherboard if networking is integrated). I almost gave 4 stars because it doesn't include a USB cable for connectivity to your computer but that is a commodity and low cost item to add and only if you are protecting a machine that you want graceful shutdown in the event of an extended power outage. If you Google Powerchute Personal Edition you can find and install that on your PC as well for some great power related info and proper shut down capabilities. Buy it, use it, love it. This UPS is a great investment, we don't install a PC for our customers without one (PS - when it does die in 2-3yrs, 90% of the time you can just buy a new battery vs buying a new UPS)
