Q: Is there a backlight on the keyboard. Also can we get a ssd version of this laptop?
A: There is a back light keyboard. I was told by the salesperson that this is not available in the ssd version.
Q: anyone else having an issue with the keyboard backlight not working?? Any fix for this?
A: My backlight is working, please try to press FN+F4 to light up the keyboard.
A: Yes, that is a free forever virus protector and is all you need. The computer came with McAfee which is a virus itself, so I highly recommend removing McAfee if it allows you to (didn't allow me to remove it, proving it's a virus).
A: Those programs do not come with the laptop they are sold separately however BB does give you $20 when you buy office with a new laptop. Honestly, if you have a .edu email address, your school might give it to students for free.
Q: is there a spot to add a ssd next to 1TB drive that is in there currently?
A: Had the back off the computer today - there is an m.2 slot, but we had no m.2 to test it with. Wish I had known before I bought the regular SSD.
Q: do you have to buy office software to type papers
A: Actually, there are a number of alternatives. One would be Microsoft Word Online, which only requires a Microsoft account and is free. When used with OneDrive on your computer, it works very well (but only works with WiFi.) The other free alternative to Word is Libre Office. Libre is free office software that does most of the functions of word, and allows you to natively save documents in .docx (the same format as word) meaning that everything you make in Libre can be 100% compatible with Word. Q: When was this laptop released by Asus? Can I return it if I use it and don't like it? Thank you.
A: Best Buy has a 15 day return policy. Just be sure that there is no damage and all accessories that came with it are still present. It was just released at the beginning of this month (June 2016)
Q: what is the battery life with normal usage expected to last with a student?
A: Battery noramlly lasts me about 6 hours.
