REALLY GREAT PHONE!!! GREAT PERFORMER!!!
Posted by: Rick from: on
I wanted a phone that could perform without lag and that was inexpensive. With all the new payment plans at the cell phone providers I decided I no longer wanted to participate in their "no contract" contracts and buy my next phone outright. I spent 6 months looking at different unlocked phones $250 and under. I have AT&T and like their service so this worked out great. Coming from an LG flagship phone, I didn't want to sacrifice anything and felt surely there are phones out there that don't cost $700 that work great.
This is the phone. I have experienced zero lag. I don't play heavy usage games but I have played many games that others have struggled to play on their phones just fine. There is not much more to say about performance. It doesn't have a lot of bloatware to use up all the RAM. The 2 GB of RAM is what makes this phone so great. Don't let the smaller processor scare you. This thing runs like a beast. Sure, there will be some lag somewhere but the same is true for high end phones as well.
For an 8 megapixel camera it takes pretty good pictures. If you hold it real steady the pictures look great but it is easy to get blurry photos if you're not careful. I was hesitant at first just because of the camera but another reviewer included a picture taken on the camera that helped me make the decision. I take most of our photos with my phone so the camera was VERY important. Compared to my wife's 8 megapixel phone camera this is way way better.
The sound is decent. The rear speaker works well if you hold your hand behind it when watching videos. The speaker phone is not real loud and you have to hold it up to your ear if there is background noise like in a car but still good enough. The earpiece is decent, again not that loud but not bad enough to not love the phone. The ringtone and notification volume is really really loud. You definitely won't miss any calls or texts if you have the volume turned up.
The phone itself feels solid and well made. The quality seems top notch and the soft rubber back makes it very comfortable to hold on to. You wouldn't know the thing is made out of plastic. Never owning a ZTE I didn't know what to expect.
Although the screen is only 720p, all you see is bright and clear. You won't see a noticeable a difference between this screen and a 900p or 1080p screen. This is one thing I was a little nervous about before buying because I had not seen one in person that was turned on. As soon as I turned it on I was so so happy. Videos are bright and clear and I have yet to notice anything other than a clear high definition picture.
Not sure what else to say except I cannot believe this phone was only $100. Plus it has a removable battery. Say what you want but I've had phones with and without a removable battery and when problems arose removing the battery for a second and putting it back in almost always solved the problem.
I never thought I would buy a $100 phone. Not because there is something wrong with inexpensive phones I just never thought a phone this cheap would perform the way I need it to. Never again will I assume if I want a good phone I need to spend $500 or more. I sure am glad I bought this.
Sorry for the long review but I always find more information is more helpful so I hope this helps someone. It's a great phone at a great price, you will love it. Feel free to ask me any questions in the comments.

It's actually 16GB

Great experience so far! Best buy says 8gb but its really 16gb so thats a plus!! I had a LG Flex, screen cracked and I refused to jump on the "AT&T Next Program" boat so I got this device and I can't lie, I am stoked! It's a great device so far, no glitches or anything. It's a great display, clean Lollipop Android, great feel and I love the size. Coming from an LG I have to get used to the buttons on the side and the missing knock-knock feature but I'm totally satisfied with this purchase!!
It's light and pretty basic look/feel. Calls are great & clear, speakers are on bottom back and even covered sounds good.
Camera isn't out of this world, its a decent basic camera but it def gets the job done and for the price I'll take it!! I have posted a sample shot.
My only con is so far, as I know, it does not have an IR blaster and I def used my phone as my remote at times. It also lacks NFC, but I never used that anyways.

My UNBIASED review...A little background: I've been an iPhone iOS user since it first launched in 2007 having purchased a new iPhone each launch with my last iPhone being the 6 Plus 64GB. Was browsing the deal sites and found this ZTE on sale for $80. Figured to give it a chance and if I like it I would sell my iPhone. If not, I can return the ZMAX 2...I sold my iPhone 6 Plus 64GB and kept the ZTE. Why after all these years? Great bang for the buck! That's why! I'll compare the cost of the Zmax 2 to the iPhone 6 Plus 16GB which sells retail for $649. I asked myself, is the iPhone really worth over $500 more? For me, absolutely not. What I love about the Zmax 2 is its sharp 720p screen and just as large as big as the iPhone 6 Plus at 5.5" It is fast and responsive! It takes really good photos and video(I work in TV Broadcasting so I know what good quality is). These were the most important factors for me switching from the iPhone and saving $$$. I am very happy with this phone as it is feature rich. I am still learning the Android OS but am getting used to it. What else I like about this Zmax 2 is you buy it and put in your own AT&T sim card or get it unlocked for other GSM providers. With AT&T now switching to either purchasing phones at retail or their month to month Next plans, this helped choosing the ZTE. I am very happy with this phone being fast, responsive, capturing really good photos and videos, surfing and viewing videos on the internet with its large 5.5" 720p screen! Icing on the cake is not having to deal with a monthly payment plan or taking a huge amount of money to pay retail for an iPhone or Samsung equivalent. I've had the ZMAX 2 for 2 weeks now and I am very happy with it and highly recommend it! Save your money! Hope this helps in your decision. :)

Very good phone

I bough this phone on sale $69.99 (go phone AT&t) but I use Family Mobile TMobile I did unlock it following this steps, when you buy the phone do not turned on ( some best buy stores will not sale this phone with out activating it, do not let them if they don't want to sell it buy this phone online), take the imei(located where the battery goes)Do Not Turn on the phone, and request the unlock code from at&t for free at att.com/deviceunlock it take 24 hours for them to send you the code, once you have the code take the att Sim card out of the phone and replace it with your Sim card(TMobile in my case)turn on the phone and it will ask you for the unlock code, type it and enjoy your new unlocked ZTE zmax 2, I love it you must have patient waiting for the unlock code do not buy one they take for ever and they charge you for something you could get for free, it's a really good phone. If you have an gmail account it will reestablish all your contacs and apps.

Excellent Quality & Very Reliable SmartPhone
Posted by: PoutsarasKaiGamias from: on
I purchased this phone to use as a backup phone to slowly replace my 4 year old AT&T iPhone. This ZTE ZMax 2 is a much better phone than my old iPhone. It's much faster and it has built in WiFi as well as a Hot Spot feature. I use my phone a lot for internet as well as for text messaging and calling.
The reception quality for calls is excellent and I the sound quality is excellent. I can hear very clearly when I make and receive calls. I always get an excellent signal on it even though I live in an area where the signal is very weak on all of my other cell phones. The signal that I get on the ZTE ZMAX 2 is excellent and it never drops any calls. The speaker phone is also very high quality. It has excellent sound quality and is nice and loud and the sound and you can hear through the speakers without any problems.
I also love the battery life on the phone. I heavily use this phone on and off all day long for the internet and for texting and making calls. The battery lasts me for 3 to 4 days with the heavy usage that I put this phone though before it needs to be recharged again. No other phone has this type of excellent battery life. You can use this phone all day long and the battery level will not go down very much. The battery that's inside this phone is a very high capacity battery which last a very long time during very heavy usage.
I love the affordable price of this phone. It costs hundreds of dollars less than the iPhone and the other Samsung high end phones and is just as good in quality if not better than them. I recommend this phone to anybody who is looking for a high quality no contract smartphone. You cannot beat the quality that ZTE put into this smartphone. It's the HIGHEST RATED no contract AT&T smartphone .that AT&T sells on this website.

Fantastic Budget Phone
Posted by: trexxcrap from: myrtle beach on
Lets start out by saying I did a ton of research before purchasing the Zmax 2. I looked at different budget phones for weeks but settled with the Zmax 2. The phone isn't a burner or have crazy stats but does everything I need it to do. Here is an overview.
Sound - Fantastic. The rear speakers and the ear pierce are great. I'm coming from an iPhone 6 plus and its night and day.
Screen - Low point. The screen is 5.5 inch which is great but the resolution is kinda low.
LTE / WIFI - Great speeds and consistant.
Gaming - I play a few mobile games and yes they run fine but there is noticeable lag .
Battery Life - WOW. I can use the Zmax for two days without charging. its amazing how much life is packed into the battery.
Camera - Very Very underwhelming camera. On par with a smart phone camera from two years ago.
Final - Fantastic budget phone and does everything I need it to do. Don't hesitate with this amazing phone.

$250 specs for $129 price
Posted by: HumidSting from: on
Disclosure: I am an employee, but this has not affected my review in any way.
-(Relatively) Super fast. Can switch between apps with no lag, and apps resume just where I left them
-Battery life. This thing can sit on standby for 2-3 days, and with heavy use can easily get me through at least 80% of the day.
-Fast charging. This doesn't have TurboCharging or what not, but it still has an included 1.5A charger, and charges the phone in a few hours from 15%-100%
-(Relatively) Good camera. 8MP rear-facing. 2MP front-facing. Don't expect LG V10 quality, but it gets the job done.
-Bright and relatively sharp screen.
-Doesn't get too dark; can get "Bluelight Filter" on Play Store to fix that.
-No root options as of 12/26/2015.
-Somewhat heavy bloatware, but can all be disabled.
Overall, a great phone for the price! I unlocked it through AT&T for T-Mobile, and it works without a hitch!

The phone arrived on time and in good shape. It has an amazing battery life and the camera is good as well which is important to me since I am a working artist. The only draw back is it did not come with detailed instructions which I needed since I never have had a smartphone before. I found them at the ZETA MAX site and made a hard copy (170 pages) but now I can use it to it's full extent. A cover and glass protector can be found at the AT&T store along with a car charger and ear buds. I have seen these items on Amazon as well. AT&T was great about putting in a sim card to carry the account I already have with them. I did not use this phone as a go phone as I like my present plan. I am a grandmother and have been able to easily master this new devise. I love it.

I am an Android smartphone fan, and i have owned dozens of different Android models, and without a doubt, the Zmax 2 is by far the best budget smartphone there is. The phone features a high quality and nicely calibrated 5.5 HD screen, 16gb of onboard storage, plus the ability to expand with an SD card, and the Android 5.0 Lolipop skin is very close to stock Google, so the phone is very responsive and the performance rivals that of phones 3 times more expensive. The only cons that I could think of are the AT&T apps that are unnecessary, and take precious storage space, and that the unit is probably stuck on Android 5.0, but that's to be expected since is a budget phone. Bottom line is that in my humble opinion, there is simply no phone at this price point that comes close to the value of this unit. Great screen, great battery life, good ammount of storage plus the ability to expand, and a camera that is surprisingly decent for the price of the unit make this a steal. Highly recommended.

Great phone excellent price
Posted by: vcam from: on
I waited for a few days I'm using the phone before reviewing it. So far I have downloaded plenty of apps and a lot of music I've had it start to lag on me one time but all I had to do was turn it off and turn it back on like you have to do with all phones after installing so many apps. The phone is fast and very responsive takes good pictures and let's face it for the price there's no comparison. The two gigabytes of RAM really make a difference coming from a phone that had one. This is the only phone in its price range that has anything above 8 gigabytes of memory or 1 gigabyte of RAM. I strongly suggest this phone to anybody looking for a good phone and not wanting to spend 500 plus dollars.
