Best Keyboard EVER!!!!
Posted by: minnesotaguy from: on
I recently built a powerful gaming PC, and the one part I skimped on was the keyboard & mouse (I used an old wireless keyboard & mouse from my old pc) If I had known what I was missing, I would've purchased this right away! Mechanical is the way to go. I narrowed it down to a few different boards, but this one took the cake. All the other boards I physically tried in the store were very loud. This one is very quiet for a mechanical board. It also looks very nice on the desk, very plain, but sleek and stylish. Just what I was looking for. The lighting effect are icing on the cake! Great job corsair! You nailed this one!

Mechanical for the non-mechanical
Posted by: GooDOlTom1 from: Long Island, New York on
I've purchased my fair share of keyboards over the years and in that time I've purchased one or two mechanical. Normally the click/ clack of the keys would drive me crazy and would push me away. However, this keyboard does not. Fully programmable backlighting along with programming buttons adds flair to the computer keyboard.

Good mechanical keyboard
Posted by: Cheeeks from: MN on
This is a good mechanical keyboard that I'd rate 4.5 stars. To provide some context to my review, my other mechanical keyboard has Cherry MX green switches which are clicky, loud, and have more resistance (which I love). I chose this keyboard with silent Cherry MX switches because I needed something that I could use at home at night that won't wake the kids, yet I still wanted the "feel" of a mechanical keyboard. The clickiness is obviously different but it still feels like I'm typing on a mechanical keyboard, so mission accomplished.
The keys are narrower than other keyboards and it takes some getting used to; thus the subtraction of half a star. This is a full-sized keyboard with a ten-key number pad so I don't understand why they didn't make it a little larger with "normal" sized keys
I needed back-lighting but didn't require anything fancy so the multicolored lights are a bonus. I haven't played around with customizing the lights or keys nor do I intend to in the future.
To summarize, pros include:
* Still "feels" like a mechanical keyboard even though the switches are silent
* Backlit keys (multicolored a bonus)
* On each side of the keyboard is a strip of white light that both looks cool and provides ambient light around my desk
* You don't have to install or run the Corsair software in order to have backlit keys; there is a default backlight setting
* There is a dedicated button to dim and turn-off the backlighting
* The keys are raised or "floating" which makes it easy to clean since the spacing is so large i.e. there aren't any small crevices for junk to get into (you can also just pop the keys off for more thorough cleaning)
* Keys are narrower than typical keyboards

Best Mechanical Keyboard
Posted by: KyKy from: on
I purchased this over the black friday weekend sale and I gotta say, this thing is incredible. I switched over from my CM Storm Quickfire keyboard with cherry MX blue keys because I found it a bit too clacky and a little too easy to actuate certain keys. The Strafe just outright FEELS much more fluid and natural with each key press and for me, how a keyboard feels when you use it is 90% of the reason to buy it. Responsive keys, plenty of options for customization, looks beautiful, and performs the best with gaming and general all around use out of any mechanical keyboard I've ever used. The one single con I could possibly find with this is that the power cord is rubber and not braided, but its easily overlooked because of how well this thing performs. Well done Corsair.

Nice keyboard. Could use a few tweaks.

Call me old, but I really enjoy typing on a mechanical keyboard. I purchased this keyboard not for gaming, but for keyboarding/typing. Personally, I prefer keyboards that have a little bit of a click to them. This is a silent keyboard that does not have the tactile "click" when I type, which I kind of miss. I do not blame Corsair for this... They market it as a quiet mechanical keyboard, and I did have an opportunity to try it out on a display at Best Buy before buying it, so I have no one to blame but myself. Ironically enough, my wife likes it better because my previous "clicky" keyboard drove her nuts.
What makes me tolerate the absence of my tactile click when I type is the LED effects on the keyboard. For me, it serves no function but simply aesthetics, but I really like it. Makes me feel like a geek, I suppose. One thing I do not like, however, is that the lighting themes are controlled through a program on the PC and when my computer goes to sleep, the keyboard goes back to the default lighting scheme (which is really not very cool or attractive, in my opinion). As soon as I log back in, the keyboard goes back to the previous theme, so it is not a huge deal, but I really wish the keyboard itself would somehow remember its theme setting so it would boot up in that setting and stay in the theme even when the computer goes to sleep.
Another minor annoyance that I did not even notice when I bought the keyboard is that the numeric and other special keys have the characters reversed. The number keys, for instance, have the numbers on the top of the keys, not the bottom, with the symbols on the bottom, not the top. Good thing I am a touch typist, otherwise this would bother me even more than it does now. I use the shift key to access the characters on the top of the key. With the way this keyboard is physically set up, I have to use the shift key to go "down" to the special character on the key. This is very counterintuitive and a huge annoyance. I would also like a way to toggle the function keys as opposed to having to hold the special function key any time I want to increase or decrease the volume. Maybe I'm spoiled by my Mac, but I find myself using function keys less and less for their F1 through F12 functions, and more for things like skipping songs and adjusting the volume.
There is a button on the keyboard that allows me to toggle the lighting between three different brightness settings (or off entirely) without having to do anything within the operating system itself, which is nice.
In the end, my complaints are somewhat minor and it is a good keyboard with a solid, albeit soft (due to the lack of the tactile click) feel when typing. Now if only they would start making mechanical LED keyboards like this one for the Mac...

Awesome keyboard for the avid gamer

This keyboard rocks! The super soft touch keys make winning easier. The flashing changing colors are great. I can change the color to fit my mood. The added wrist rest adds to the awesomeness of this keyboard. Would buy again. Great product.

This device has almost all the features you could want. The lights are gorgeous. The software is not as hard as everyone makes it out to be plus that software is updated all the time. The quality is also very nice. I love the way the keys feel when I type. As for the bad, I wish it had dedicated media controls. I just put those controls on my mouse using macro keys to get around it. Which leads to the other con. There are no dedicated macro keys. Yes, you can make any key a macro, but when you are looking at what keys will get used, It's hard to find some that won't get used at some point. Dedicated macros have nothing to do with the normal function of a keyboard, so they are nice for extra tricks you want to setup. That said, I've found ways to do everything I need. Don't let that stop you from getting this keyboard. it is great. If you like customizing your lighting, then there is no better option. No lighting smoother or more precise than this.

Best keyboard I've had
Posted by: Soldier40 from: Huntsville,AL on
Bought this last week after looking to upgrade a older cooler master model that was membrane. After looking at so many I chose this one and glad I did. I don't care for the clicky sound typical mechanical keys make on these kinds of boards but when they come out with this silent model I had to get it. Very quiet and soft to the touch. Very cool lighting effect and not too bright with 3 dimming modes. Millions of combonations to choose from. Software works good. Paid more than I was willing to for a keyboard but made the jump anyway. Very happy with it.

Best Keyboard Ever!!!

This is hands down the best and most advanced gaming keyboard I've purchased. I previously used a Razer Blackwidow but this keyboard has far more personalization for hardcore gamers. Silent keys, individual key lighting color, programmed key macros and far too many features to list.

Great Mechanical Keyboard

It comes with a key remover that allows cleaning easier. You can customize the keys as well. Switching out from a blackwidow was the best thing ive ever done.
