Overheats and shuts off all the time Posted by: from: on I bought this vacuum cleaner after reading all the positive reviews. There is a lot to like about it, but one big overriding negative. Almost every time I vacuum, it overheats and shuts off. You have to wait a long time for it to cool down and reset itself (no reset button). You also have to clean the pre-filter by rinsing it in water. However, if you do that you have to wait hours for it to dry or risk mold. Hoover reps tells you to do all this and act like that is normal. It is in fact a major design flaw. No vacuum cleaner should clog so easily and cause the motor to overheat. Do NOT buy this machine. Read the many reviews on this site and online about this well known problem. I wish I had done that and never bought this lousy machine. Since nothing is technically broken, the 5 year warranty is useless until the motor burns out. So I'll fight with it until then I guess. What a waste of money!

Most Maneuverable Vacuum I Ever Used! Posted by: from: Wilmington, NC on I read as many of the reviews about this vacuum and most seemed very positive. There are more good things than bad about this vacuum. Unless I have a defective model, the edge cleaning from the front or side is non-existent. The lack of edge cleaning is the most annoying thing I found on this vacuum. My very first bagged Windtunnel had very good edge cleaning. New technology Windtunnel obviously does not. That is why I am dropping two stars. It does seem to adjust very smoothly from one floor to another, and the wide path cleaning of this vacuum is wonderful as it seems to pick up the smallest dirt particles not seen on your floor. That's a good thing. The edge cleaning is something I plan to email/chat with Hoover about. If this edge cleaning issue is indeed the norm, then I will have to return this back to BB. For the amount of money this vacuum is I cannot in good conscious recommend this vacuum because it should do better at edge cleaning..

sucks like mad Posted by: from: on I'm a guy and my 19 yo Kenmore just wasn't doing the job anymore since I inherited a beagle and a great dane. My roomba is OK for maintenance but I sometimes have to figure out where it went. Plus, if the dog poops it manages to spread it nicely throughout the house. So, being a guy, there was no need to read the instructions. Luckily I was in the kitchen on linoleum when I assembled it. I moved the dial to the "floor" setting and turned it on. It immediately grabbed the floor and stuck to it with me tugging on it in horror. It took a minute to figure out that I should turn it off before it pulled the floor up. I'm convinced it would have pulled up my laminate floor if I started it there. Once I figured out the "floor/hose" knob is actually an adjustment to vary the suction, I ventured onto laminate and carpet. Since I had vacuumed the day before, I couldn't believe what this thing found, almost filling the container. Being able to steer this thing is like going from a truck to a corvette. You can set it to gentle or rip the floor up. The hose thing is great because you just pull the handle out without having to reconfigure it. (Sucked some change and unneeded knickknacks off the shelves, great fun to watch them spin inside). The only drawback is the button to turn off the roller brush is located on the main body and I have to bend down to activate it. Would be better on the handle. Overall this is fantastic.

3 Repairs....so far. Posted by: from: on Have owned this vaccum for about 2 years now and have had it in to be repaired 3 times. Twice the beater bar quit and now it just quit and won't turn on. This last time I told the repair person if the warranty doesn't pay to fix it he should just throw it in the trash because I would never pay to fix this. The only good thing about this vacuum is that it comes with a good warranty.

lightweight Posted by: from: austin, tx on Could be a little stronger but easy to maneuver around very flexible. Can do all types of floors. It surprised me with the nothing to push to bring from upright position. Hose and attachment is easy to setup but the brush push up is hard to use, will probably break easily since just a plastic tab holding it in place. Many times I pushed it completely off w/o meaning to. Can move around very easily it adjusts to corners easily. Hard to clean rollers, brushes could be longer. Cord is the old fashioned but easy to wrap and un-wrap. No place for pet attachment. Very lightweight and easy to lift. Love the on off switches on top no searching. The light for the brush does not work. the directions was not specific that there is not a pedal to push down to get from upright position to down like all the other types in the past have. Hose easy to pull out and put back in but sometimes I forget that I have it on hose not floor. No need to adjust for different types of carpet and just a switch to turn on/off brush. Worth the cost from others because can do many types of floors.

Poor Design - Overheats and Quits! Posted by: from: on I have traditionally bought cheap vacuums that last about 3-4 years on average before they need to go. My son talked me into paying more for this unit and I am really sorry that I did. The suction when working is great, but a lot of dirt/dust goes straight from the dust cup to the prefilter which helps it to overheat quicker so you must clean that filter at minimum everytime you use the vacuum. Second, it overheats routinely, requiring you to shut it off, wait, and then try to finish before it shuts off again. I found out later this was a common problem with this unit and seems it is a poor design and/or the motor is inadequate for the design. Keep your box and your receipt if you buy this. I have never had to return a vacuum and tossed mine once it appeared to all be in working order. I am very sorry I did. It appears the quality of all vacuums has taken somewhat of a dive as best I can tell and the majority, if not all, are made in China. It sucks, don't buy it.

Good performance but a couple of issues Posted by: from: Fargo, ND on We found the ability to pick up dirt on the wall edge to be very good if not excellent. However, as other reviewers have noted, the automatic depth detector gets too close to our vinyl floor and sticks the vacuum to the floor. Only fix is to move the Floor/hose dial toward the hose position to block some of the suction and break the seal. Without that dial, there would be no using this vacuum on vinyl floors. On the other hand, that floor/hose dial is an annoyance. Most vacuums we have had previously switch to hose mode as soon as you connect a hose. You don't have to remember to switch positions on a dial. Also, this is our second unit. After only two weeks, the first unit failed to turn on. Best Buy exchanged it with no issues. We considered changing to a different vacuum, but decided that the annoyance for having to switch the dial didn't outweigh the good performance.

Great Alternative to Dyson Posted by: from: Maryland on I had just threw out my old vacuum and just happened to be in Best Buy and saw this on sale. I checked it out, took down the display and rolled it around the floor. It was light to carry and easy to use. The price was great and compared to Dyson, seemed like a comparable alternative. When I got it home, put it together and used it, I couldn't believe the power it had. I had just used my old vacuum and this got up so much dirt, it was astounding. The hose is long enough to get up in the ceiling and has great reach. The transition from carpet to hardwood is easy with the turn of a switch. I've been very pleased with this purchase.

As always, you get what you pay for... Posted by: from: NJ on This is a great machine for it's size. I have spent over $1000 on vacuum cleaners in the past 5 years (most have been given away within a month because they don't work for ME). The most recent purchase (Hoover Windtunnel Platinum canister) has not been given away because I did not find a replacement until now. I have 4 requirements: Powerful, Bagless, Hard Floor + Carpet, ability to clean below, couches and dressers, tools for the ceiling, corners, curtains, fixtures, etc. The canister had one flaw; it weighs a massive 26lbs. Cleaning the house is exhausting. The job would take me 2 days because it is heavy and the hose in inflexible. The Good: I have owned the Air Pro for two days. It weights in a measly 15lbs. I have finally cleaned my home (70% hardwood, 30% Carpet, +6 rugs) in 4.5 hours. This includes ceilings and crevices. Lifting the machine, to clean the stairs, ceilings, corners, fans, lights, fixtures, etc. is a breeze. The bad: The rugs are a challenge. Turn on the Brush locks the rugs to the machine making it immovable. Turning the dial slightly away from the Floor setting and towards the Hose setting (distributing the air thus reducing the suction enables the machine to move) and turning on the brush helps while it heats up the brushes. You'll have to play around to find the correct setting for your carpet/rug. Summary: This is the best vacuum cleaner I have found that fits my lifestyle (form, function, and COST). Yes, it leaves a lot to be desired. Hoover is so close to making a great vacuum. maybe the next iteration will be a highly improved machine for today's homes.
