This TV is a great value if you don't want or need smart features inside of your tv. However, out of the box, the picture is way over-processed, which leads to the infamous lagginess that annoys us. Luckily, you can remedy it by turning off the processing features that slow down the tv. Specifically, turn off in advanced settings:
Over scan: off
Dynamic backlight: off
Noise reduction: off
Adaptive Contrast: off
Also, for a good starting point for better picture quality and colors, I dropped Sharpness to around 30, contrast to about 45, color to 41 and you can set the backlight appropriate to the lighting in your room.
After these adjustments, I'm very pleased with what I've gotten for my money and I would definitely buy Insignia again. I would appreciate more options for dialing in the colors though.
I hope this review is helpful.

Great TV for the price

I upgraded my 40" to a 50" and am very pleased that I did.
This is a great TV for the price. There are zero issues with streaming
anything to the screen Since I do not have cable, I stream/cast Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, YouTube, Apple and they all work fine. I also have my Blu Ray player attached and the clarity is prefect. Full HD!

Outstanding Insignia 50' TV for the price.
Posted by: Wavecepter56 from: on
The Insignia 50 Class - (49.5 Diag.) - LED - 1080p - HDTV was an emergency purchase after our Olivia 47' LED TV died , the black screen of death, on a Saturday morning. We purchased this as they were being rolled onto the showroom floor. Excellent purchase, basic. wonderful color and sound, out of the box. Exceptional quality for the price. Please buy one yourself and enjoy the savings!!

Faulty firmware 1.05.00
Posted by: GuffyD from: on
NS-50D510NA17 rev A
My unit is this exact model and revision. I also have had no luck updating the firmware from 1.04 to 1.05 using the supplied file on the support website. I tried formatting two different flash drives to FAT and FAT32 (usb 2.0 8gb and 16gb). I have tried both the bin and zip with and without the original file names l. I tried formatting these drives with Mac OSX and Win10. I have tried both GPT and MBR partition tables with various allocation sizes. The TV will prompt to update firmware after turning it on but will fail about a half second after starting the process. I have also tried to use the help menu in the settings to manually update the firmware.
Video jitter and motion handling deficiency is present regardless of the video source and resolution (I tried all of the hdmi ports too). None of the tv video settings (even sharpness) make a difference. I have also played around with chroma subsampling (4:2:2 and 4:2:0) and switching between RGB and yPbPr, and refresh rate from the output of my high end nVidia graphics card. CPU based Motion interpolation only slightly improved motion jitter/judder.
The Insignia tech support I spoke with also seems to have no clue how to solve the failed update issue as well. I wish I would have returned the tv while I could. If a rep of Insignia reads this, forward this message to your software programming team.

JUST GOT THIS TV AND I LOVE IT!! RETURNED MY 49 IN LED LG TV BECAUSE THE SOUND WAS HORRIBLE AND NEEDED A SOUND SYSTEM BUT THIS TV DOESN'T NEED ANYTHING AND WAS 130 BUCKS CHEAPER. DON'T FOLLOW THE TREND AND BUY THE BRAND NAME THIS TV IS FAR BETTER THAN THE LG COMPARISON AND THE TOSHIBA IN MY BEDROOM AND VISIO IN THE OTHER BEDROOM!!

Fantastic value for a HDTV
Posted by: JKCinci from: on
I was surprised at the low price for this set, on special in the store. I checked the review online and was impressed with the quality and the specs. The 3 HDMI connections was key for us. Got it home, installed the feet (literally, 4 screws in total) and had it set up in minutes. Blown away by the quality and performance. The sound is more than adequate in a living room setting. We opted for the 5-year protection plan for only $60, since it includes in-home service! We had planned to buy a 43" TV, but this costs less and is excellent quality.

Great picture and easy set up
Posted by: giff85 from: on
My needs for a TV are basic: provide a great picture and easy to set up. Both were accomplished with this purchase. I purchased an Insignia TV four years ago for my daughter's dorm room and it still works great. That helped me decide on a new 50 inch. The picture is excellent, easy to set up, quality sound -- all at a great price.

I love my new tv. I did find it somewhat difficult to set up but the picture looks great. My son doesn't care for the tiny remote. Lol.

Brilliant picture and great sound

I saw this tv on the Best Buy Deal of the Day, and I must say, it was truly a great deal. We really didn't need another tv, but I saw this and I had to look into it. I bought a 19 in Insignia for my daughter a few years back and it still looks and sounds great. I connected my son's PS4 to it and the games look and sound incredible compared to the 32 in tv it was connected to. Definitely worth the purchase.
