A definate upgrade from previous washer

Had this washer for about two weeks. unfortunately, the top sprayer inside the washer continues to leak after the cycle ends. Went to Best Buy and they are exchanging it. Hopeflly, it this will not happen with the new one. I previously owned a LG washer and this one is 10 times better.
It has all the features you can want in a front load and it definately gets the clothes clean. I can't even hear it, when it spins...and if it becomes out of balance, It knows how to slow the spin and re adjust to balance it.
The only complaint i do have is the door is a little flimsy... It could dent very easly.
Over all... Love it!

BUY WITH CAUTION:Good at first but not in long run
Posted by: Hannah12 from: Houston,TX on
I thought I would write this review after owning this product for some time. In the past, I have owned a front loading whirlpool duet washer and dryer, so this would be what I may be comparing the LG model to.
The pros of the product, is it has a much larger capacity to wash items. I find that comforters fit nicely into the drum and have extra room to tumble able easily. We are just a young couple, and find that we only have to wash two to three loads every other week: one load for whites, and two loads for colors. The units are much quieter than our other whirlpool front loading washer and dryer, so we never hear it running or notice it at least.
The cons of the product is after owning the unit for 10 months and what I would call light use of washing clothes, it has sprung a leak from the bottom. Did I mention we are a young couple with no kids yet? We have checked the obvious places it may be leaking such as hoses and connections, but they are completely dry. So we called LG since we are still under warranty. They said it was an "operator" issue with us using too much "HE" detergent, and we should use less. In which we did for the next couple of loads with a recommended "tub clean" cycle per manufacturer instructions. No such luck, it still leaks 10 months out. This is my second call out to LG for them to send a serviceman out. They said they will not until a third call of leakage. I am not happy. The washer should not be leaking at all. So definitely, buy with caution. This is a newer model, but after 10 months of owning this washer, I'm already having issues.

I just washed two weeks' worth of clothes in less than a day--7 loads! That is my normal weekly wash in my old GE machine., and it would take all day Sat and Sun. This LG steam washer is a dream come true. I purchased it solely for the capacity, but I have been incredibly pleased with the features. I was surprised to discover the fresh care feature that will cycle the tub periodically for up to 18-19 hours so that if you forget you have clothes in the machine, they won't get mildewy. This feature alone makes the washer worth it because I generally throw in a load at night before bed and then another load in the morning before I go to work. I have used the Whites, Normal, Towels, and Permanent Press cycles so far. All have been super quiet and the longest cycle was an hour and three minutes. So far, the machine has done an excellent job of extracting water from the clothes. I didn't use the term wring or spin the water because if you are used to old school machines, like me, these words evoke thoughts of misshapen, stretched out, wrinkled, even torn clothing. Not here, I promise! I purchased this machine Labor Day and got a banging deal. Even if I had paid full price, this machine is worth it and more! If you are considering purchasing this machine, DO IT! If you haven't considered this machine, YOU SHOULD!

CANNOT GET WARRANTY RAPAIRS DONE
Posted by: BA0701 from: Knoxville, TN on
Absolute true story, and I would invite anyone from BB or LG to dispute it. I purchased this washer and the matching dryer in March 2013 from Best Buy, and when I did I purchased the extended warranty. The dryer stopped heating, which was no big deal initially, as I simply called to get the warranty service performed. That is where the nightmare begins. I scheduled the service through BestBuy, and unknowingly my wife had also called in to LG. Well, LG simply gave the name and phone number of the same place BestBuy had already scheduled the service call to, so we did not bother calling them. Service was scheduled for Wed morning, and when the date and time came without so much as a call from the service provider, I called them, only to be informed that they refused to perform any warranty work for LG, as LG would not pay them, and the woman actually informed me that their shop was apparently the last shop in Knoxville TN that would do warranty work, which is why LG continuously sent people to them, and she wished me luck in getting my dryer repaired.
I called BestBuy, and explained the issue to them, and the lady from BestBuy forwarded my call to LG, but she remained on the line the entire time, in case I experienced any problems. Well, needless to say, the lady from LG tried to simply give me names and phone numbers of shops in Knoxville, including the one that had already refused to do the work. I told her she was welcome to call one, and I would be fine if she could find one that would do the work. She placed me and the lady from BestBuy on hold, and proceed to try and contact anyone whop would do the work. She returned on the line, and informed the lady from BestBuy and myself that she was in fact unable to find anyone to perform the warranty repair. The lady from BestBuy then said she would take care of it, and we got off the phone with LG. Long story short, BB was unable to locate anyone to do the repair either, and so BB said they would replace the unit. I explained I did not want the LG, even though when the two appliances did work they worked very well, if I cannot get warranty work done, and therefor we would have to replace both the washer and dryer with a different name brand. BB Service agreed, and gave me a number that I was to take to the store, and pick out whatever comparably priced systems I wished to get.
I got to the store, and was told they would only be replacing the dryer, and not the washer, even though I was getting one that was a different name brand and different color. Several hours later, and after getting BB Service on the phone, they informed the store manager that they were replacing both the washer and dryer.
This was an extremely horrible experience for both my wife and I, and took over 1 month to complete, during which time we were without a dryer, less than one year after having purchased a set for $3000 from the local BB. Corporate BB Service, on the phone were really good people, always polite, and in the end they were the ones who got all of this done. But, LG, and the local BB store were horrible, and made the experience an absolute nightmare, and one of the worst experience my wife and I have ever had. Lucky for us, we have two different BB store within just a few miles of each other, and we will be taking our business to the other store from this point forward, as we have never had a bad time there.
But, and this is a huge BUT, I have to tell anyone, at least from Knoxville, to stay away from LG appliances, you will not and cannot get warranty work done in this entire town. Knoxville TN is not a small town, by any means, and so the fact that we were unable to get warranty repairs done here should be more than enough reason for anyone in other cities to at least check and verify the availability of local warranty service prior to purchasing any LG appliances. Speaking for my wife and I, we will not have another LG device in our house, after this nightmare!! The question, would I recommend this to a friend, well I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!!

Excellent Washer - Way Overpriced
Posted by: dpowell29 from: Edmond, OK on
The size of this washer is just perfect, not only is it energy efficient but you can wash what would take 2-3 loads in a normal washer in one single load. I believe the price is way too high for everything you get. Just because it's a larger size doesn't give a valid reason to charge $500+ more than it's closest size down.

Great for 1 year 4 months before dying
Posted by: laier21usa from: Pittsford, NY on
We bought this washer in November 2012 because we needed a larger capacity washer and this washer definitely fits the bill for that. I've never owned an LG appliance before and had previously only used Whirlpool or Kenmore. I decided to give LG a shot since it's the largest home washer on the market and it received good ratings from Consumer Reports. We can wash our king size comforter, comforter cover, sheets, and pillow case in a single load. There are a ton of options for different cycles and you can even create your custom one. The washer itself seemed to do a good job washing and getting out stains that were pretreated. We have two young boys so this happened a LOT. The washer also is very quiet and doesn't vibrate during spin cycles. Although that's not a huge deal for us since it's located in our basement.
Fast forward to March 2014. I went to turn the power on the washer and no lights. I checked my circuit breaker and made sure there was power going to the outlet by plugging in my dryer. So I called LG and explained my problem. After some questions from the LG representative, she diagnosed the problem as a faulty control board. However, since the washer only comes with a 1 year warranty, she advised we would have to pay for the repair. I told her that is ridiculous and a washer costing more than $1k should last more than 1 year and 4 months. At that point she told me as a one time courtesy they could extend the warranty and cover the cost of repair. She provided me the number to the local authorized repair shop to set up an appointment. I called them and was told they will need to pre-order the control board and will call me once the part arrives.
I told a friend about our ordeal and she told me the same exact thing happened to her LG washer. In her case, they were unable to fix the washer so they provided a refund. She bought an extended warranty from the store so she didn't go through LG warranty though. I'm really hoping that won't be the case for us since I'm not sure LG would do that at this point and I had to remove doors and trim from two door openings so the washer would fit through. As long as it gets fixed, I'll be happy so now I'm just waiting. I'll report back with an update once the part comes in and the washer is repaired. I'm glad LG stepped up and is willing to repair the washer out of warranty even though it really should have lasted much longer than just a year and few months.

As a practitioner of massage and facial services, I do a lot of laundry. So I was looking for something that has a really large capacity. This LG is the largest on the market. I also was looking for something that would clean my white towels and sheets while removing any hint of oil because the oil can go rancid with age and affect the odor of my linens. The sanitary cycle with steam fully addresses this. But what strikess me most about this machine is that it removed mildew stains from an old coverlet that was damaged years ago when my apartment flooded while I was away. I had washed this coverlet many times and was dismayed by the stains as it was hand made by my grandmother. It never came clean. That is until I used my new LG. Now I have a family heirloom.that I can happily display and hand down to my family. Thank you so much LG!

Holds lots of clothes in each load and is quiet.
Posted by: Flourishing from: Crozet, VA on
This machine does everything we wanted. The steam feature is nice. It is large enough that you can do large loads which saves water. Clothes spin dry almost dry enough to wear which means less time in the dryer.
