    Elegant Lemon-Scented Brick

    Elegant. Thin. Stunning. These were some of the adjectives I used to describe my Samsung 77" S90D Series OLED TV. The picture quality is exquisite. It hangs in my brightly lit living room and is able to display deep blacks and vibrant color during the day. Sports and movies are equally beautifully rendered. So, why only 2 stars? Because the TV died after 71 days! I was out of town for a few days, came home and went to turn on the TV. No response. I figured maybe the remote battery was dead, so I charged it. No dice. Then I checked the power cable, power outlet, unplugged, replugged. No luck. Then I commenced googling and YouTubing. Found the power button on the actual TV. Tried different sequences of power resets. Nope. Apparently, Samsung knows that this is a problem. I have scheduled onsite service, and when I called to confirm the date, I was told that the tech has already ordered the parts. If you know that these TVs are lemons, why still sell them? For now, just a few days before the Super Bowl, I have an expensive, elegant, lemon scented brick on my wall. Should have just bought the Sony Bravia.

    I will never buy a Samsung TV again. As a long time fan, if you follow gaming culture this brand — Samsung — just pulled a Battlefield 2042. I didn’t want to review but I can’t not review — Samsung, update your firmware. This is a TV for enthusiasts. At this tier — the TV should be compatible with external components flawlessly. And I am not trying to discourage you, the picture is beautiful — but the software is horrible. I bought 2 of these — 1 in 77”, 1 in 65” which was DOA and BestBuy almost didn’t return it, but they did. The 77” I have to reboot the tv because the GUI and software is written so poorly there’s no robust error handling programmed in, so switching to and from game mode might crash the TVs system. This is such an issue on both TV, even going from a cable to the onboard applications on the 65” can crash the TV software — to the point you have to unplug it, let the CAM clear and plug it back in for it to boot, the remote stops working (this is 3 TVs I personally dealt with, exact model. Different sizes. I have 2 in my house right now and they’re trash. Cool. I have $5000 worth of trash in my house. BestBuy ate the cost and returned one that was $2000 so between BestBuy and Myself we have dumped about $7000 on garbage from Samsung. Thank you. Best Buy — you’re amazing as always. I’m sorry your vendors suck sometimes.

      We appreciate your feedback, and for optimal performance, we ask that you please ensure you've got the latest firmware version (1201.8) installed on your S90D TV. You can check this by going to: Home > Menu > Settings > Support > Software Update.

      If this firmware version is not yet available on your TV, you can download the update on a USB drive and manually update your TV:
      1. On Samsung's website (upper right corner), go to: Support > Manuals & Software > Find your TV model.
      2. Download the update and extract it to the root of a USB thumb drive. (Do not put it in any folders on the thumb drive.)
      3. Connect the USB thumb drive to a USB port on your TV.
      4. Navigate to Settings > Support > Software Update, select Update Now, and then select Yes.
      5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the updated software.

      You may also want to further optimize performance with the self-diagnostic tool, which checks memory, frees up unused cached memory, and closes background apps. Go to: Home > Menu > Settings > Support > Device Care > Start Device Care

    Purchased this tv 11/2024, enjoyed the picture, all around great tv. However, it just quit in the middle of a movie and wouldn’t turn back on. Other people are stating they’re having the same issue. Samsung is sending someone out to repair it. Never had an issue before with any television brand, but probably wont go back to Samsung, at least not OLED.

    Improper packaging for Open Box TV

    I purchased an Open Box TV listed in “Good” condition, expecting minor cosmetic wear, but with all parts included and proper handling. The sales associate was helpful and confirmed that all accessories were included; however, at pickup, some parts were missing and the TV was delivered in a condition that does not reflect a “Good” Open Box standard. The TV appeared to have been poorly handled and was only wrapped in bubble wrap, without proper protection or packaging. I also had to drive nearly 40 miles to pick it up, and transporting it in that condition was difficult. While the TV functions, the overall condition and pickup experience do not reflect the price paid. I do have evidence showing the condition in which the product was delivered, and I was expecting to be contacted to discuss a possible price adjustment.

    Operated just fine for 6 months then never turned on again. Scheduling repair through Samsung. Kicked the associated circuit breaker when it went out. Not a good sign.

    Great OLED TV, dubious on the blown power board

    Fantastic OLED Panel, perhaps the best high dynamic range I've seen yet with colors that absolutley pop on screen. I use an Amazon Cube, so I cannot speak to the Samsung software. Unfortunately, this TV experienced a catastrophic power board failure at 1 year and 1.4 Months. We'll have to see how Samsung handles this given how expensive this model is.

    Great picture, bad UI, Bad QC

    The picture was great while it lasted, died in 20 days, power board failure happened suddenly. Samsung itself offers a warranty for repair, but dont have authorized repair technicians in my area so they offered to replace the unit for a "scheduled" time almost 3 weeks out...im going to have best buy replace it in a week instead. Im probably going to go with a LG instead though cause a new unit will likely come with a power board that will fail as well, there is an updated power board that repair technicians will replace the dead ones with that appears to fail less, but with no technicians in my area, i fear ill be sucked into a death loop replacing this thing. Just get the LG and its dumb remote, at least it wont fail at the rate od these things.

    Stopped Turning On after 2 Months

    I was loving this television purchase until it would no longer turn on after only 2 months of owning it. I followed the common troubleshooting steps online and suggested by Samsung customer support with no luck. The power simply would not turn on. Fortunately, it was still under Samsung warranty and they sent a 3rd party to fix it. However, it took 5 days for a technician to come out and repair the TV and I was without it for the first weekend of March Madness. The technician mentioned that this was a common problem with this model of TV and that they have had to fix the same issue many times. They were confident that the new part resolves the power issue moving forward, but it was a very frustrating experience to not be able to turn on my TV after only 2 months of owning it.

    New Samsung TV

    We decided to upgrade from a 65” tv to a 77” Samsung. We already have 2 Samsung tvs and love both for pictures, etc., on our 55” and 65”. However when we read reviews on the new 77” we bought (made 2024) we saw the newer model for 2025 was reviewed as much better for reliability. The older model froze or just quit working all together. We didn’t want to encounter such a problem so are returning the older model for a much more reliable model year at only a slight price increase. Love Best Buy for return policy as a BB member! They never disappoint.

    AWFUL Video Slurring While Watching Live Sports

    BUYER BEWARE!! The 77" S90D has absolutely stunning picture quality in SDR/HDR and the QD panel is a thing of colorful beauty. However, I noticed while watching sports through DirecTV and various streaming services that the S90D seemed to have issues processing fast motion video of varying frame rate speeds. When the camera would zoom in on the players on the bench or show a slow motion instant replay, the S90D would try to adjust the frame rate by speeding it up or slowing it down, causing a 1-2 second video mess. This caused critical plays to be missed and just an awful viewing experience. Over my 60 day Best Buy trial, I became more an more annoyed. I thought that the video content was the issue, so I scanned the AVS Forum for help. I tried all kinds of setting changes but in the end I found out that it wasn't the content problem, it's most likely a hardware deficiency of the Samsung... Other users note that Samsung has had this problem for many years. This is unacceptable for a $2500 TV. The S95D is plagued with the same issue. This explains why there are always so many "Used" Samsung TV's through Best Buy. I ended up returning the S90D and exchanging it for an LG G4 which finally and thankfully eliminated all of the video problems!! I'm so happy I upgraded! If you are a SDR sports watcher (DirecTV, cable box, etc), the S90D and S95D are NOT for you. Your sports will be ruined with this TV. If you are a gamer or only watch HDR content, you probably have no problems though. It's too bad that there were so many video issues, because the picture was stunning.

      1) HDMI cables are recommended for optimal HD viewing.
      2) If you have an analog cable box or satellite box, upgrade to a digital cable box or satellite box.
      3) Change the output resolution of your devices, such as digital broadcast receiver, IPTV, and set-top box to UHD or HD.
      4) You can further adjust your sharpness, brightness, contrast, color, and more by going to Menu > Settings > All Settings > Picture > Expert Settings
      5) Choose a Picture Mode by going to Menu > Settings > All Settings > Picture > Picture Mode and choose from Dynamic, Movie, or Filmmaker Mode.

    Stopped working one month after warranty expired.

    TV looked great and working well. One month after warranty expired, it would not come on. Now payimg for expensive repairs. I looked at reviews, and apparantly this is a major problem for this TV. I went ahead a purchased an LG, which seems to be a much better product and a much better picture. I'll fix the Samsung just because i dont want to trash it. I may try and sell it after its fixed.

    The TV died after 7 months. When it worked it was amazing. Seems to be a problem with the 77 inch model. Dealing with Samsung warranty now, we'll see how they handle it. We'll give this s90d 77 inch another shot but if the next one is a lemon too not sure what I'll buy instead.

    The picture was never that good and now I know why--- the picture went black after 3 weeks and had to get a new TV. Luckily we purchased the extended warranty, as Best Buy exchanged it for a new one. The picture is great.

    Known flaw. Skip this one

    I love the TV when it works. I had it 4 months and it just stopped turning on. Apparently, this is a very well known flaw with this model. I was very angry. I wish i had been warned. It took weeks for Samsung to send someone out to my house to replace the panel. Ridiculous. You have to go thru manufacturer. Even if you bought the Nest Buy warrenty. So im basically getting a 1 year extended warrenty thru best buy but paying for a 2 year warrenty. Nice. I was able to get it fixed and it works now. But I do not recommend that model since its commong for it to stop working.

    Lost power

    Cmpletely shut down mid show after a month and a half. Fortunately, it is still within the BestBuy return period. I will have it replaced with a new unit, hopedully it will last this time. I have had multiple Samsung LCD TVs over the years with no issues. Let's see, because I do love the amazing picture quality and size.

    Picture is great. reflections were higher than I wanted. Lack of function on remote was easy to fix with a second remote (less than $10). The bad review is because 3 weeks after purchase it died. TV would be 5 star a huge improvement over my sony that died, but a new tv dying this fast is not acceptable. best buy will replace, so hoping second time is a charm.

    Bought this tv less then two months ago, woke up this morning to find out the TV won't turn on. No stand by light or anything. Pretty sure the power board is fried, either way, 2 months in on a 2400 tv! Should not be happening...very disappointed!

    Worked for 2 days then just stopped. Didn’t trip a circuit breaker. Verified wall outlet worked. Tried charging remote and using manual button on television, but the red light that indicates power supply to the tv wouldn’t even turn on. Tried another wall outlet for good measure. Checked cable connection points for arcing or signs of bad fit. Nothing helped. Had to return the TV and replace it.
