    6 Month Review

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this 65" TV in March 2025. I have had it approximately 6 months and I am thoroughly happy with my decision. I almost swapped it for a Samsung OLED but I'm glad I didn't. I replaced an older 40" Samsung smart tv that I have had for about 8 yrs but used Roku as the interface. It's still going strong and has been moved to my bedroom. This new Sony is Full Array which is the step below OLED and mini LED but I can say is as close to an OLED as you can get. The picture difference between them is minimal and it has blown the older tv out of the water as far as picture quality. I don't use Roku with this unit. The Google interface is good. I have had a few quirks occur now and then, but they are few and far between. This TV is very bright as compared to a lot of OLED models. So much so that I adjusted it down just a bit. I have very light sensitive eyes and white backgrounds especially at night bothered me. After the adjustment it was fine. If you have a bright room during the day, this TV will work great. I didn't find the auto ambient light feature worked well enough to bring down the brightness enough for my taste so hence the brightness adjustment. There are tons of adjustments on this TV which can be daunting to some but I'm a photography buff and very picky. I recommend you google the preferred settings for this unit as a starting point which are available online from techie reviewers if you are having trouble getting it like you want, then adjust from there. I played around a lot experimenting but now rarely touch it. The picture is stunning. The color is rich (Sony is known for their color processing) and rivals OLED and is an older, more proven technology with not as much concern for you news/sports watchers with respect to the banners at the bottom of the screen burning in. There are a few motion and moire issures but from what I have read, these are also present on many OLEDs as well. The moire is an effect that causes a twinkling in some patterns with tiny graphic lines. Think of a shirt with small tight herringbone type patterns. I have gotten used to it and is well worth it as the overall picture is so good. The sound is not as good as my old 40" but I run my setup through a Pioneer AV receiver with Klipsch tower speakers anyway. I would recommend a soundbar if you don't have an AV setup. I do like being able to run the tv speaker as a center simultaneously. This also allows me to switch my receiver to the radio using my receiver remote if I am watching/listening to two different broadcasts. Think of watching football while listening to the radio announcers broadcasting the same game. Many sports folks like to listen to their local college announcers on radio while watching the game. Go Dawgs! Just turn down the TV volume and you are set or you can switch between each audio at will. The over the air channel reception is light years beyond my older TV using the same flat digital antenna I used on my older unit. I attribute this to the atsc 3.0 tuner which is the latest version. Some other TVs in this price range did not have this upgrade. It allows over the air reception of higher quality as local channels begin to upgrade their broadcasts in the higher quality "NextGen" formats of 4k and soon to come 8K. As far as Dolby Vision (DV), etc. goes, I pay for very few streaming services to keep costs down so the premium services that broadcast these formats are of less of a concern of mine, though this TV does offer this feature. I have watched a movie in DV format and I thought it was worse than the standard HDR10. The buzz is that DV will be the format of choice going forward over Samsung's HDR10 and HDR10+. Samsung currently does not support DV so if this matters to you, go with Sony. It's a battle akin to Sony Beta vs VHR that occurred years ago. I originally was looking for a 55" replacement and needed to ditch the old armoire that was limited to a 40" max. I did some measuring and even cut two templates from velum paper to tape on my living room wall to see which size would work best. The 65" was only 100.00 more so I splurged and I'm glad I did. Having larger text at my age is a plus. As far as connectivity is concerned, I was frustrated at st that this TV would not connect to the internet. I am fairly tech savy and after calling the Geeks which was of no help (they only could offer the basics which I had already tried) , Sony and eventually my cable company I finally found the culprit. The cable guy suggested that I check my wireless modem settings. Once I dove into it on my PC, I found that the new IP address for the TV showed "blocked." Two clicks and it was fixed. It had nothing to do with this TV. Thanks to Alex at Best Buy in McDonough, Ga. for his help. He was a Samsung guru but was fine with me going with the Sony and understood my preferences. I don't think you can go wrong with this TV. My viewing experience has definitely been elevated.

I was debating between 65 and 75, but 65 is a decent size for apartment. The lighting and colors are good, but the remote control experience/connectivity was not as seamless as I imagined.

      Hi RJRon,

We're glad to hear that you found the 65-inch BRAVIA X90L to be a decent fit for your space—it's always a tough call between size and comfort for apartment living, and it sounds like you made the right choice.

We are also thrilled that you are enjoying the lighting and colors, as the Full Array LED panel powered by our Cognitive Processor XR™ is designed to deliver that vibrant contrast and picture clarity.

We sincerely apologize that the remote control experience and connectivity were not as seamless as expected. We strive for a smooth and intuitive user experience across all our products. There are a few quick steps (like a simple power reset by taking the batteries out and pressing every button twice or re-pairing the Bluetooth remote by navigating to Settings > Remotes and accessories > Remote control ) that often resolve these minor connection hiccups.

If you are still experiencing those issues, please do not hesitate to reach out to our support team. We'd be happy to walk you through troubleshooting to ensure your entire experience is 5-star worthy!

Went into the local best buy to purchase this tv. The salesman was pushing another type of TV I didn't want and told me the only one they had in stock was sold. I went back home and ordered this one online. I was able to pick it up a hour later at the same store. The tv is great. I highly recommend Sony tvs. But, order online and pick up avoid the sale associates whenever possible.

The picture quality is great especially if you happen to have anything available in actual 4K to watch. This is my first time with the Google tv setup and i find the menus not as easy to navigate as with my Roku menus and also Roku offers many more free options for streaming. So far I'm very pleased with my first time Sony tv purchase.

Surprisingly my wife asked for a new Tv as her valentine day gift and I was more than happy to oblige. We went with the Sony after seeing the reviews and the picture quality does not disappoint. I like that Sony has Bravia, which provides another option to get additional channels with no extra charge. We are very happy with the purchase.

    TV great- Install ?

The TV works great. The installation by members of the Geek Squad was troubling to say the least. I had two teams of the Geek Squad who participated in the installation. Both teams tried to install the Power Strip with a gummy tape to the back of the TV. In both cases the gummy tape released from the TV. I reinstalled the Power Strip to the wall mounting bracket using Zip ties The team that installed the Apple TV to the TV did not attach the Apple TV mounting bracket to the TV. I used Zip-ties again to attach the mounting bracket to the TV. I am disappointed with Best Buy that I had to follow behind the Geek Squad installers to secure the Power Strip and the Apple TV to the wall mounting bracket and the TV.

Setup was very simple and the picture quality was noticeably better than my previous TV. Colors look natural, blacks are pretty deep, and it gets bright enough even during the day. I mainly use it for streaming and gaming and everything runs smooth with no issues. The built-in apps work well and the remote is straightforward. Only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is the sound is just average, but with a soundbar it’s perfect.

The TV is great and easy to use. It has a clear picture and connects well to my home theatre for sound. The only detractions for this TV is that the built in speakers don't sound all that good, and I wish there was more control over the picture quality. It's has great picture quality, but I like to be able to adjust every little thing, and it somethings I just can't, even if I can on my other Google TV. Otherwise though, it's excellent.

Came from a Vizio M55-E0 and was surprised with the brightness and clarity of this tv. It’s a solid performer for a midrange tv from Sony. There is some blooming and vertical banding but I don’t think it’s a deal breaker or that bad at all. It’s a balancing act for tv manufacturers. If they try to cut down on the blooming then you get black crush and loss of detail. If you prioritize detail you get blooming. The tv looks great on my stand and I really like the low profile look of the feet. The tv has a premium look as well. I cannot comment on how helpful Best Buy staff was to my purchase since I already knew what I wanted when I walked in. I have been researching tvs for the better part of a year. Their staff did locate the tv and seemed professional and willing to help.

Recommended with reservations. This Sony XR X90XL had an amazing picture right from the moment I unboxed and set it up. The sales staff at my local Best Buy are amazing. Now the bad news. The TV worked for one week. Sony support performed a remote diagnostic and we were temporarily able to reset the TV. But, once again the set went out in 1 day. Best Buy scheduled a replacement to be delivered in 2 days. Unfortunately due to problems with the weather and the contracted delivery service, the set never arrived. This was on a Saturday, the Best Buy phone repeatedly disconnected me. On Sunday I went back to the store. The Customer Service personnel were anxious to help, but could not schedule delivery for another 5 days. Not acceptable! It was originally delivered on September 27. It's now October 17 and the replacement was just delivered. With the state of the electronics industry today, I highly recommend an extended warranty
