Luckily I purchased a sub. Also didn’t pay attention to the fact they are 145 watts. I have it paired to a Yamaha 485. So it can’t be turned up past -15 db.

You may try playing different sound modes on your home receiver and replacing the speaker wires you are using with speaker wires that are anywhere between 12 to 16 gauge and see if it improves the sound quality. Priorities Clean/Crisp over Punch/Groove

At the 199 price mark you'll be happier saving a few more coins for a Polk Signature Series or similar mid tier speakers. The issue with these speakers is they do not punch hard at all. Low mids and Bass are just too polite for most rock music. The treble range on the other hand is very clear and gives the Sony towers a nice crisp clean sound with compressed low end. Speakers are good for Movies and Jazz or more polite music. They do add clarity to the mix so if you have a decent sub they can clean up a rock/pop mix if you have supporting speakers. I would not recommend these speakers with out a subwoofer in any situation. SOUND is GOOD they just don't Kick.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend starter towers better than tv speakers
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.They were giving them away so i bit.Got them on sale $99 each.Underwhelmed but kept them ,and found a use for them at that price.After they break in ,the soft dome tweeter isn't too bright/harsh but adds crisp dialogue for tv voice audio.If you're looking for serious 2 channel stereo Mains you'll need to look in the $700 each range to start.These are ok if you listen at low to moderate levels.I use them as rears to compliment my bose 501 front mains when watching tv. 14 days (60 days for ELITE members)to take them back if they play too small for you.

I was wrong. I ended up purchasing two pair.. but ONLY because they were on sale --BOGO! They are nice and work well, however I would not purchase them again at the regular price. Go for the sony bookshelf speakers instead. They are a better value

Love music and like sound to be crystal clear. But for price and on sale I guess you get what you pay for. Of course there is more expensive speakers but I grew up with Sony brand.

A little lacking

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Running these on a denon 960h and maybe it's just me but they seem to be lacking the performance that i was expecting for the price but its been years since i have used tower speakers that being said they sound clear but bass is something to be desired so make sure if your using for a home theater set up you have a separate powered subwoofer

We are so sorry if the bass sound of our SS-CS3 Floor-standing Speakers did not live up to your expectations. Some of these issues may occur if the input source you are playing has less bass sound. You are correct. To improve the bass sound experience, we highly recommend adding a subwoofer like the SA-CS9 115W 10” Active Subwoofer to the home theater setup.

If the polarity of the speaker connections are not correct, the bass tones will be weak and the position of the various instruments obscure. To enhance the bass of your Sony SSCS3 speakers, you can try adjusting the settings on your audio system. If your system has an "EXTRA BASS" or "EQ10/Subwoofer" setting, you can increase the bass level through these options. Additionally, placing the speakers closer to walls or corners can naturally amplify the bass response.

Okay, Not Great Sound

Got these and compared them to my old Klipsch floor standing speakers and wasn't impressed. These Sony speakers sound okay for the price, but honestly they seemed stuck in the mid range, not really nailing the sharp highs or deep lows. The good news is it's renewed my appreciation for my old but tried and true Klipsch's.

I found the Sony core 5# bookshelf speakers to sound identical so I returned these for the cheaper (1/2 the price) bookshelf version.
