I decided to buy this vacuum instead of the D-Animal due to the price. I really wanted to buy a D-Animal but after reading reviews, watching videos and testimonials from people I know I went with the Navigator.
Easy to Maneuver
WOW Suction! This thing is powerful
Really? BB's? (I will get to this later on)
Great cleaning tools
Long Cord (does not get warm or hot when used extensively)
Easy to assemble. Only 1 bolt to install
Easy cleaning of filters and one touch dump of dust can
Brush bar will stop if something gets wrapped up in it or if the
vacuum is tilted nearly straight up the brushes will stop. (This can be a bad thing as well in special cases)
When picking this up from the store (purchased online) A lady was returning her D-Animal because the head broke off. You wont have this problem with the Navigator. The body of the vacuum attaches to the brush head from the top.
2 Motors: 1 Motor for the suction, 1 Motor for the brush head. This insures powerful brushes and suction.
POWERFUL Brush Bar that is not Cylinder Shaped!!! You ever get hair wrapped around your brush bar and find it hard to get scissors down and cut the hair? Not with this, this has groves where you can get scissors in easily to cut that hair away.
7 Year Warranty (make sure you register your vacuum to prevent problems with any warranty work). I bought the 2 year Best Buy warranty so I can just take it to them for the first 2 years no hassle and it was only $20.
No Light: For those of you who care about this fine but I don't vacuum in the dark
Tipsy: With its easy Maneuverability you can tip it if the brush head is not flat on the ground such as when wheeling it around. This is not a big ordeal I just noticed the potential for this to happen
Small Dust Can: This is small, as you will see when you first use it. I cleaned a 4x4 section of my hall way carpet and immediately picked up last years dirt left behind by my Dirt Devil Special. I cleaned my 1300sqft home 4 rooms and emptied the dust can 7 times. It is crazy how much fine dust/dirt is picked up.
Hepa Filter: The Hepa Filter is placed in the front of the machine right above the brush bar. This means when using this on a bare floor the air pushed out of the motor can blow the dust/dirt away that you are trying to suck up. There is a simple way around this that no one has posted yet. Just lean the vacuum down toward the ground more like if you are cleaning under a bed which puts the Hepa Filter in the air so it doesn't blow down on the ground. Problem Solved!
This thing has so much suction that it can be hard to lean area rugs that are on hardwood floors. You will have to stand on it spreading your legs end to end (as far as possible) to keep it down so you can clean it. Guess what! You can use the pet tool for this as well but you wont get a super deep clean.
OK. I told you I would tell you about Really? BB's?. We bought our home 1.5 years ago from a family who had 2 young boys. Our computer room is one of the oldest boys old room. We have vacuumed many times and shampooed.
Well, I was vacuuming and heard something clicking around in the vacuum. My first thought was something was caught in the brush bar. NOPE. I saw small BB's that you use in a BB Gun laying on top of my carpet!! My second thought was oh no! these are bearings from the motor. NOPE. Upon further inspection they were BB's. This thing was pulling out BB's from the carpet in this room that used to be a near teenage boy's room.
I hope this was helpful. I believe in detailed reviews from real life experience. Do not waste your money on a D-Animal unless you are materialistic or have that much money laying around. Goodluck!

Left me in Awe & Disbelief
Posted by: bmwjohn1 from: Hyannis, MA on
Still happy with it 3 months later. It is just as good as the first day I bought it. Comes with extra filters. Filters do not need attention often. Bag-less. I didn't believe the reviews and TV infomercial until i put my faith in the best buy reviewers and bought one on sale. Man does this thing leave Dyson in the dust. It picked up things in my carpet I did not even know were there. The first time you use it the canister will fill up very quickly due to the amount of debris your previous vacuum failed to suck up. I just can't even reiterate how good this vacuum is. The pet tools are awesome that come with it. You need this if you have cats or dogs. It sucks the hair up with ease. The one thing I was more surprised about than anything was how quiet the thing is even with the motorized brush on. It's the quietest vacuum I ever owned. If you have any doubts; Just try it the worst that could happen is you save the box and receipt and return it if you don't absolutely love it.

BEST PURCHASE EVER!

I have a Golden Retriever, and he sheds horribly, but now I don't have to worry about that since I bought the Shark. It sucks up more than you'd ever even know was there - I am SO glad that I chose this vacuum over the Dyson. Aside from the price, it works so much better! This vacuum is amazing - and I would recommend it to anyone! Buy this vacuum, and you WILL NOT be disappointed!!

I absolutely love this vacuum. The first time I used it, I turned it on and it almost took off by itself the brushes were so good. I just bought my house, and the stuff it pulled out of the carpets was amazing! I think it is totally worth the price.

I can't believe how well this thing works. I vacuum on a regular basis and brought this home only to be astonished at how much my old machine had left behind.
I had a 12-year-old Hoover that needed to be replaced and while I wanted a Dyson I simply couldn't afford one. The reviews on the Shark seemed good so I thought I'd give it a shot and I'm glad I did!
The Navigator is much, much quieter than my previous vacuum and the suction is unreal. You do have to empty the small-ish dirt cup regularly but it's very easy and sanitary to do so (the dirt drops out from the bottom of the cup into the garbage). The first time using the Shark I filled up nearly half the kitchen trash can with dirt and cat hair! Unbelievable.
The only thing I don't like about it is that it wants to tip over when using the extended hose. The machine is top-heavy and has a narrow base so you must prop or hold it up so it doesn't wobble when extending the hose. But for the price and performance that's a weakness I can live with!

Great Vacuum for the Price
Posted by: Malek5333 from: Elyria,OH on
I have owned the vacuum for a few months now and it has exceeded my expectations. As soon as I bought it I swept a room with my old vacuum and followed up with the Shark. I was expecting to find very little and was surprised by the amount of dirt/dog hair my other vacuum was missing. The Shark is very easy to empty and clean. Also it is quiet compared to other vacuums I have owned.
My only concerns are the quality of the vacuum, the majority of the vacuum is plastic and feels cheap. I haven't had any part failures, yet. But the front is scratched in several places, and I've made a point to take good care of it. Also the vacuum comes with attachments that do not stay on the unit itself. So you need to keep a bag (provided) with attachments available as well.

Good vacuum for the money.

I bought this vacuum on sale for $149 to replace a name brand and fairly expensive vacuum that shorted it's motor out after only 2 1/2 years of apartment use.
1. It's extremely light weight - 15 lbs. Unlike my precious vacuum that weighed something like 27 lbs - this thing is easy to handle when I'm cleaning the stairs.
2. Suction galore! The vacuum has a very powerful suction and it easily cleaned embedded pet hair (from my 4 yr. old Lab) and dirt that my previous vacuum apparently was leaving.
3. Compared to other vacuums I have own. It's quiet.
4. The dust/dirt container is easy to remove and replace - and with just one touch of a button, the bottom of the container drops - which makes for quick and efficient emptying.
5. This vacuum easily maneuvers around furniture, etc.
6. The brush can be shut off for cleaning bare floors or if I am using the unit to clean my car.
7. The beater bar (brush) automatically shuts off the moment anything becomes stuck in it, and it is easy to restart.
8. Comes with lifetime, washable filters - and even comes with an extra filter to use while your primary is drying. Seeing that my previous vacuum required I replace it's $30 filter ever three months - this will save a fortune.
9. No suction loss - even when I had the dirt/dust container filled all the up to the recommended empty line.
10. My dog loves the pet hair removal brush - he thinks he is getting a massage when I used it on him to remove shedding hair.
11. It has a long cord - 30 ft .
12. It comes with a 5 yr. warranty.(However, I choose spend the extra $20 to get Best Buy's 4 yr.warranty so I wouldn't have the shipping hassle should the Shark break down.)
1. Like my previous vacuum, I have to step on both ends of a throw rug when I clean it so it doesn't get sucked into the beater bar. Sometimes a powerful suction is not a good thing. :-)
2. Not all of the attachments can be stored on the unit itself. However, the unit does come with a bag that will hold all the attachments that is not made to fit on the vacuum..
3. The dirt/dust container is smaller than I would prefer.
4. No light.
Overall, I would give this vacuum a 4.5 star rating and would recommend it to anyone. It's well worth the money.

Not worth the money
Posted by: blondie1340 from: Northern MN on
It is a great vacuum but it has serious design flaws. If you have all carpeting by all means, buy it, you'll love it. But if you have mostly hardwood floors forget it, buy something else. I have 3 cats and 1 dog. I have an Oreck that I love but the Oreck does not have a hose and attachments for cleaning furniture. Nor does it have good edge cleaning. If it did it would be the perfect vacuum. I have to drag out two vacs just to clean the house. So I saw the ad for the Shark Navigator and was pretty impressed. I bought it and set it up. At first I was impressed with it....til I got to the pet hair on hardwood floors. Design flaw number 1. They put the HEPA filter at the very bottom of the vacuum in the front of the vacuum! DUH! How stupid. The pet hair blew away from the vac and went under the couch as if I had a fan in front of the vac. After pulling the couch out so I could get all the hair, the darn HEPA filter blew the hair into the air as I approached the wall. Now not only do I have hair still on the floor but it is flying around the room landing on all the furniture. Okay so now I have to get out the darn duster too.
Design flaw number 2. Throw rugs get caught up in the brush roller way too easy no matter what size rug or how heavy or lightweight the rug is. So forget about cleaning those with this vac. More time wasted by having to either shake the rugs out or getting my trusty Oreck to do the job.
Design flaw number 3. You will be emptying the dust cup several times if you have pets. It fills up fast because it is so tiny. It looks big but their design for "no loss of suction" is to have a lot of air space between the cyclonic thingie and the collection cup. Also the vacuum sure seems heavier than 14.7 pounds. You won't be lugging it up and down stairs.
Design flaw number 4. Not all attachments fit on the vac. So you either have them dangling around in the bag they provide for this purpose or dig them out of the closet everytime you need them.
Design flaw number 5 The handheld power brush is big and bulky. You will not be deep cleaning fruniture with that! It is great for stairs (but not the riser) and the topside of furniture but forget about getting in between cushions with it! Also if you have carpel tunnel you might as well throw it out because it is too bulky and heavy to hang on to.

Great for picking up pet hair and dirt.

This vacuum works great on pet hair dust and dirt. It is light weight and easy to carry. It works well on carpet and wood floors. I have three cats and it picks up their hair no problem. I would recommend this to any pet owner.
