Sturdy, Solid Protection for iPhone
Posted by: from: Mississippi on
This is a nice iPhone case that is quality built. It has a good feel when holding your iPhone for calls, texting, etc. Does not obscure the screen. All cutouts are in the right place. Easy to install iPhone into the case. The only thing I would say is tha it would be nice to have a small bit of rubber on the sides for firm gripping while texting or calling. Otherwise, it is a winner!

Great case for protecting my phone
Posted by: gmrgrl from: Newbury Park, CA on
So, I must start with that I have used Speck cases for my iPhone so that they are protected from drops since the iPhone 3. I really love the colors on the Speck cases and was a bit sad that there were so few options at Best Buy on release day but I guess that should be accepted since the Apple store had NO covers on release day. Honestly, I never pay full price for my Speck cases, I always get them with a coupon or on sale but with the phone being brand new and no one having cases, I conceded. I will say that although I do not like to pay full price, I am more than willing to as it protects my phone.
On to the review, I ended up getting the white and charcoal grey cover which looks amazing on my black iPhone, it really fits it well. The cover is a perfect fit for it and with the new design of the phone, it fits awesome in my hand. I saw that on the Speck site there were more colors available but in Best Buy store not quite yet. I LOVE the Speck cases and how well they protect the phone if a drop happens. They also have a great silicone lip on the top which makes it so that your phone screen does not touch surfaces and helps safe it from scratches (I also have a Zagg smudge proof screen cover on it). Another thing that I really like about the white cover is that it will show scratches much less than the other colors I have had. So you should know if you have any other color besides white, it will start showing scratches on the back cover almost immediately but it will protect your iPhone phenomenally.
In regards to Speck products and this cover, I do really love them and think they are worth the money even full price. I will continue to buy them and have them protect my phone from damage.

One of the best on the market...
Posted by: JSho10 from: Texas on
I've owned over 25 cases for my iPhone 4. So, this was one of the first cases I bought for my iPhone 5. These Speck Candyshells are super protective, though not overly thick. They feel great in your hand and look great. I'm laughing at people who complain that they scratch easily. 1.) You can't see the scratches unless you put the phone up to your eye to thoroughly examine it. 2.) Isn't that the PURPOSE of the case? To protect the phone?
This case looks great and feels great and I highly recommend it.

Pretty nice case

I got the iPhone 5 on launch day from Verizon and I knew that I needed a case for it ASAP. I went to Best Buy because I knew they'd probably have better prices and a better selection than Verizon. I don't like the huge Otterbox cases but I figured the phone needed something more than the silicon cases so I decided to get this case. I got the grey with the pink soft inside. It works great and definitely keeps my phone protected. Like the other review says there is a lip around the top so that if you set the case upside down the screen never touches the table or whatever surface you set it down on. The only issue I have a problem with is that it's very difficult to get your phone out. I almost feel like I might snap the phone in half trying to get it out. I guess that's good since it won't come out if it gets dropped but I don't know. Just makes me nervous every time I have to take it out. I would definitely recommend this case though. I do kind of wish I had a slider case though.

Ignore the first comment, the purpose of a CASE is to protect the PHONE from damage, and that is just what this case does. It combines both soft shell rubber inside providing shock resistance, and hard shell polycarbonate outside with bumpers protecting the phone from drops. I spent all week trying out cases that would protect my new iP5, and this one was the best quality, and attractive looking. It may be a little pricey, but not as pricey as it is dropping the phone itself without it.

Nice case, fits phone perfectly

This case fits my phone perfectly. It actually fits so well that it is a bit hard to remove the case. All the buttons are easily accessible and the buttons that are covered are very easy to press and use.

Perfect for my needs

I am so hard on phones and was apprehensive about getting and iPhone and possibly cracking it. I had an Otter Box with my 4S and loved it, but it was very bulky. I was glad to see I could get similar protection in a speaker design. I also loved the color combination, but wished I had more to choose from. Would definitely use this brand for phone covers or even iPod covers again.

Scratches far, far too easily
Posted by: AustinAustinite from: Austin, TX on
True, the main purpose of a case like this is to protect the phone, and this one seems to do ok at that. It's got a nice, rubbery interior section where the phone fits snugly, and a harder outside shell. I imagine it would do well against drops.
However, the mere act of setting the phone on the desk should not result in a case covered in scuffs and scratches. I haven't dropped this phone, nor has it been in any potentially harsh location (laptop bag, rough surface, pocket with keys, etc). I take good care of this stuff, whether in a case or not. Yet in less than 2 days, the case is covered in horrible scratches and scuffs.
Yes, the case is primarily for protecting what's inside, but for what this costs, you want it to look halfway decent, too. And this one does...until you take it out of the package.

Solid and fashionable case

Between OtterBox's Doomsday Preppers' heavy duty style and Speck non-intrusive yet simple design, I chose Speck even though it has relatively minimal protection for the screen. I don't find OtterBox's design necessary for my lifestyle. I tend to be careful with my phone and not clumsy about dropping it. Also I don't like my phone and its case look like they are about to burst out of my pant pocket. The exterior hard shell feel solid although I don't wish to find out the hard way that it isn't so I will just trust the manufacture's claim. The interior soft lining, for what it is claimed to do: absorbing shock, makes sense to me. Although when I put the phone in my work pants' pocket, the pant button tends to rub on the exposed soft lining, causing it to be worn down slightly. The reason for that is because iPhone 5 is longer than previous generations therefore it sits taller in the pocket. I simply removed the pant button to solve the problem. Whether I would buy a screen shield or not (I did buy a smudge-free shield) I would still buy this Speck case for my phone. If you are overly clumsy or just simply don't trust a shell with such low profile, get an OtterBox.
