A: True and False. You do need to be connected the the drive's hotspot in order to use it wirelessly, however the drive has a bridging mode that allows it to connect to other wireless networks. You can bridge the drive to your wireless network and be able to use the drive and Internet at the same time.
Q: Would this work with iphone or mac?
A: Yes. Works with both. I use it with my MacBook Pro, my iPad Pro, and my iPhone 6+
Q: How difficult is it to connect?
A: I set up my HDD on a Windows 10 PC, then I reset it and set it up back from my iPhone, it worked just fine on both. Also, we use it with Android devices with no issues.
Q: How bad is buffering on HD Movies to an iPhone 6 Plus?
A: I didn't have any issues buffering the video to my iPhone 6 Plus or my iPad. A friend of mine used his Android tablet to watch a few movies while on vacation. As far as speed of the HDD. It is plenty fast enough. The network connection / wifi connection is just like any other wireless device. The closer you are to the HDD the better. I actually watched a few movies on the pier at our summer cabin. The wireless drive was inside the house and I was outside, a few hundred feet away. No problems. If you are at all technical, you can figure out how to add it to your in home or portable router and expand the coverage even more.

A: It has a battery and its charged through the USB port. You can connect it to power or a power brick on the road.
