I signed up for a geek squad warranty for my new phone and it's a great service. Anything I need they will fix it.

[Employee of bestbuy] These plans are great value. They're cheaper in the long run than paying for repairs out of pocket if anything happens.

This service saved me because the phone I had it attached to broke after only two months of basic use.

I purchased Best Buy Geek Squad Protection for $69.99 along with a $199 Motorola Edge phone on November 25, 2025. On December 2, 2025, the phone’s battery failed catastrophically. It began shooting flames from the side, destroying the phone, case, and screen protector. I returned to the store the same day. Despite having the protection plan, I was charged $45 for a replacement device. Within three weeks, the replacement phone developed another failure and would not charge beyond 10 percent. At that point, the support process became a loop. The store could not locate my protection plan and sent me to Geek Squad support. Geek Squad confirmed the plan and sent me back to the store. The store then told me they do not replace Android batteries and instructed me to file a repair or replacement claim instead. I filed the claim as directed. The insurer, Assurant, informed me they could not provide a replacement because Motorola has discontinued this model. I was then told my only option was a “buyout.” To receive compensation, I was instructed to pay Assurant $218 in odert for them to reimburse me. Repeated attempts to reach Assurant by phone ended with the automated system disconnecting the call each time. Going this route, the protection plan would have cost me more than the phone itself, while failing to provide a functional replacement. To get some of this back, I am cancelling the claim and my Geek Squad Protection plan. If cancellation is not handled appropriately, I will dispute the charges with my credit card issuer and escalate the issue through consumer protection channels (WA AGO). I will update this review with relevant resources, as I'm sure I'm not the only one who is a victim of this fraud.

THIS 2 YEAR PROTECTION PLAN IS VERY VALUABLE FOR THE EQUIPMENT

I paid 70 bucks for this protection plan on a 400 dollar phone. When I tried to use it. They told me that they would charge a 200 dollar fee to use it. They wanted me to give them 270 dollars so that they could give me 200 dollars back. Would have literally been better off not buying this plan. Did not help that the rep just stared at me like I was an alien when I asked him to explain to me how this makes any kind of sense.
