I had an Asus Chromebook before and loved it so I bought another one! I am enjoying this one for what I need it for; Gmail, Facebook and email. I also pay my bills online. Simple computer for a simple life, This one is a little bigger and less convenient to carry

VERY basic, but decent for everyday laptop

This Asus chromebook is a solid choice if you’re looking for an affordable, lightweight computer for basic daily use or for what I am using it for, a runabout laptop for my 7th grader. One of the biggest positives I'd say would be how simple it is to set up and use. The ChromeOS bootsup pretty quickly, updates are easy, and it works especially well for browsing the web, checking email, watching YouTube, and of course all the Google apps (i.e. Sheets, Docs, etc). I was surprised with how nice the 14-in full HD screen was. I mean, it has a clear picture that makes videos and general browsing ekind of enjoyable and feels like I'm on a much more expensive laptop. The battery life is another strong point, and the lightweight feel and design makes it super mobile and easy to just close, throw in the backpack and go. Performance is good as long as expectations are reasonable. For basic browsing and productivity, the Intel N50 processor does the job well, and I tihnk the keyboard is comfortable for typing, and the overall build quality feels good considering the price. There are of course some limitations. This only has 4GB of RAM, so I wouldn't at all use it for my job of video editing which requires a lot of storage, RAM, etc for multitasking. Also, I found that opening lots of tabs or running several applications at once can noticeably slow things down. I definitely need to keep my Google drive and Dropbox with it, as opposed to local storage. I was also slighlty less impressed with the speakers, webcam, and touchpad --- just my experience though.

The ASUS Chromebook 14 with the Intel N50 processor is a decent performer, but should be less expensive than what it is for the normal price. Decent build quality, an okay-feeling keyboard, a screen that works pretty well, but performance isn't what it should be at this price point - catch it on sale if you want to buy one. Unboxing and setup: Basic laptop, basic unboxing experience. It is packed well, however. In the box, you'll find the laptop and a 45 watt USB-C charger, along with the setup instructions and warranty literature. You'll find two USB-C ports, a standard USB port, and an HDMI port on the left side of the device, a lock port on the right side of the device. The keyboard feels nice, the track pad is decent. Firing it up and the screen looks a lot more solid than I expected, with good viewing angles. ChromeOS setup goes exactly how you'd expect. Usage: For everyday things, it's snappy enough. Chrome works well, Microsoft 365 is usable. Web apps perform well, Android apps work well, especially considering that they're written for ARM processors (Qualcomm Snapdragon, MediaTek Kompanio) and Intel processors use the X86 instruction set. Still, some games - especially 3D games - suffer with performance because of the integrated Intel graphics being the older iGPU design and not the newer ARC-based design. Battery life is the biggest reason most people choose Chromebooks, and this one is no slouch. I managed to get around 7 hours of mixed usage while testing, including some benchmarking and gaming. While this isn't as good as my Kompanio-based Chromebook, the Intel chip didn't have the same amount of lag and better single-core scores in synthetic benchmarks by around 20%. The graphics performance was also better, if only slightly at times. The biggest question here, however, is how does a Chromebook compare to a regular laptop? You gain performance with a lighter-weight operating system and the Android version of apps, but lose the flexibility that the desktop version of your apps bring you. To get similar performance out of similar hardware in Windows, you'd need at least 16GB of RAM. If you can live with the limitations of ChromeOS, it's a good choice for you as it's robust enough for most use cases. So what's my final verdict? The Asus Chromebook 14 is solid, but catch it on sale. If you can spring for the more expensive version with the Core 3 processor, better iGPU, more storage, and more RAM, you'll get a better-performing system. But for what it is, the N50 processor should be more than enough for those needing a basic everyday machine.
