    • Number Of LAN Ports: 5 (Number of devices able to be connected to the Local Area Network (LAN). LAN ports allow wired connections to other networking devices (wireless access points, range extenders, etc.) in order to share the internet connection received through a WAN port.)
    • Wi-Fi Speed: 9.7 gigabits per second (The maximum rate at which data is transferred between a network device and wireless router.)
  • General
    • Brand: ASUS
    • Model Number: RT-BE92U
    • Product Name: RT-BE92U BE9700 Tri-Band Wi-Fi 7 Router
    • Color: Black
  • Security
    • Data Encryption: true
    • Encryption Type: WPA-Personal, WPA2-Personal, WPA3-Personal, WPA-Enterprise, WPA2-Enterprise (The security protocols or certification programs that protect the Wi-Fi network.)
    • Firewall Type: NAT, SPI (The method the firewall uses to filter and process data to increase network security, primarily by blocking malicious traffic requests while allowing legitimate traffic through.)
    • Security Features: AiProtection Pro network security / Instant Guard
    • Parental Controls: true (Allows user to block unwanted content, signals, channels, networks, etc. from being received or accessed.)
  • Network
    • Quality Of Service (QoS) Traffic Prioritization: true (Allows a user to manage a device's network performance by configuring the types of traffic that receive top priority for transmission. High priority functions and applications receive maximum network performance, while low priority traffic receives minimum performance.)
    • Band Technology: Tri (Refers to the number of frequency bands used to wirelessly transmit an internet signal. For example, dual-band devices may use one 2.4 and one 5 GHz band, while tri-band devices may use one 2.4 and two 5 GHz bands. Multiple bands also provide more flexibility for designating connected devices to specific band use.)
    • Ethernet Standard: 10/100/1000/10000 (Each standard is a variation of the IEEE 802.3 set of computer networking technologies known as Ethernet. New versions evolved to include higher bandwidth, different physical media, and other new and improved features. Standards are often denoted by speeds (in Megabits per second). For example, a 10/100/1000 Ethernet port transmits at 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, and 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps).)
    • Number of Antennas: 4
    • Frequency Band: 2.4 GHz, 5.0 GHz, 6.0 GHz (Bands may be grouped into categories such as low- and high-band VHF (Very High Frequency), low- and high-band UHF (Ultra High Frequency), or certain frequency channels (measured in MHz or GHz). Generally, higher frequencies transmit information faster but have shorter range than lower frequencies.)
    • Wireless Networking Standard: Wi-Fi 7 (The wireless networking standard used by the device. Each iteration of the standard developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance corresponds to an existing IEEE 802.11 protocol; for example, standard 802.11ac (or AC) is termed Wi-Fi 5. • Input/Output Technology: MU-MIMO (Multi-user Multiple-Input Multiple Output) (Generally, multiple-input multiple-output communication technologies allow for more signals to be transmitted at a single time, which can improve the device's overall performance.)
    • Number of 2.4Ghz Streams: 3 (A router's streams are like lanes on a highway. The more streams a router has, the less traffic congestion. Because the 2.4 GHz band is used to transmit wireless signals to a wide variety of devices, there is often high amounts of traffic on that stream. But with multiple streams, each can be designated to a specific device for optimal performance. For example, if one 2.4 GHz stream is assigned to one device, such as a desktop computer, it leaves the remaining streams open for guest users, devices that use more data, or devices with specific band compatibility.)
    • Number of 5.0Ghz Streams: 2 (A router's streams are like lanes on a highway. The more streams a router has, the less traffic congestion. The 5.0 GHz band provides high speed, short-range data transmission and typically has less traffic than the 2.4 GHz band. With multiple streams, each can be designated to a specific device for optimal performance. For example, if one 5.0 GHz stream is assigned to one device, such as a streaming media player, it leaves the remaining streams open for guest users, devices that need less data, or devices with specific band compatibility.)
    • Number of 6.0Ghz Streams: 2

Works as expected! Very solid connection!

I have used ASUS routers before in the past, so I already had a good concept of how they work. Recently I went to GFiber for my house, but the equipment they give you is very subpar. So, I got this ASUS RT-BE92U since it has a 10Gbps WAN port and the 2.5 Gbps LAN ports since my house is already wired for it. There was no configuration needed to attach it to the GFiber wall connection and it gets full speed. I did have to change the IP addressing to match some of my home static IPs, but that was easy to do. I also went online and downloaded the Merlin firmware for this model. Easy to upgrade as well. I then found an older RT-RX86U router I had sitting around so I connected its 2.5Gbps WAN connection to one of the LAN connections and factory reset the RX86U. It asked what mode I wanted to do it in, so I set it to AiMesh. The main router was now able to see it without an issue. It was also able to see that the Merlin firmware on the RX86U needed to be updated, so it downloaded it and updated itself. Easy peasy! This router and AiMesh combination has been working flawlessly since I set it up with full speeds even on the wireless! Great product!

Nice Tri-band WiFi 7 router for the price!

This review is for the second RT-BE92U I purchased from BestBuy. My initial experience with this router was in December 2024. The firmware was absolutely horrible. The router was usable for only a very short period of time before CPU resources would spike at 100%. Sometimes it was only one of the cores. But I had seen it spike to 100% on all 4 cores. The router was returned shortly afterward. Fastforward to March 2025... I purchased this router again after seeing a firmware fix for the CPU issue posted on the ASUS website on 2/17/2025. After getting the router updated and running it for a couple of months, it has been very stable. There have been three other firmware updates since then -- it looks like ASUS got their issues sorted out with this router. No real issues with it since then. Comparing the router to the one it replaced (ASUS RT-AX86U 1st Gen), this router offers the added benefits of WiFi-7. Many new devices are starting to support WiFi 7. For me, it was my Windows PCs. It is nice to be able to benefit from the additional speed provided by this technology, Additionally the router has support for the 6GHz band. It does sacrifice throughput on the 5GHz band as it has fewer antennas dedicated to that frequency. In both cases, neither is a need-to-have feature. But if you are interested in keeping current and your current router is either a legacy device or is now end-of-life, it's hard to say no to this router. The price makes this one a good buy if you want to be ready to support new features. With all the kinks worked out of the firmware, it's easy to recommend. If you need a router that gives you lots of configuration options (support for storage over USB, DNS-over-TLS, running all your traffic over a VPN connection, flexible firewall configuration, local network DNS, IP reservations, and more...), ASUS has you covered. I continue to use ASUS routers as they make all this functionality available through a web interface. They do have a mobile app as well for those who want to keep setting the router up simple. For power users, the web interface is awesome.

Upgraded from RT-AX86U and don't regret it

Title says it all. First, I was doubtful after reading all the reviews but still gave it a shot since if it doesn't work then I can return it plus I am in need of a 2.5gb capable router that will work with my current set-up. Coming from a previous Asus router, I know full well the hassle and pain of the initial set-up. It took me roughly 3-6 hours to set everything up to work flawlessly with my current AI-Mesh set-up. I set this router up as my main router, then had to factory reset my RT-AX86U and RT-AX82U to function as my mesh nodes via wired backhaul using MOCA. After that I had to configure the settings to what I wanted and then couple of reboots. VPN on router works, I use Nord VPN. Dual WAN works (Primary is frontier, Secondary Xfinity). It doesn't have the gaming mode like the RT-AX86U but if you know your port forwarding settings, etc then it should be a non issue. Also for those wondering, you can install wrt-merlin firmware with this router as I am using it right now. Have not had the issue of the router just going to reboot by itself, my CPU usage is 66-70% if you should know. Been using it for a 6 weeks with no issues. Overall, I can recommend this router ONLY if you have the patience to set it up initially otherwise I am a happy ASUS router customer.

    Good product

Real good speeds and interface. The brand is known for bad customer service but the actual product has been working really well and easy to use. I had my 10 year old son help me set it up.

Well featured router with a small footprint

I've been running Asus routers for the past few years so I ended up with this unit after the BE96U I bought had dead ethernet ports and there were no other units in town or within a short drive. Setup is the same as with any other Asus router as the GUI is the same. Unit immediately picked up on my cable modem and started providing ethernet. With that said I run dual WAN so I had to add a switch to give all of my ethernet clients a connection. Take notice when setting up wireless as it binds all bands by default and I like to keep them separate. Asus should have at least 5 available ethernet ports on a router like this as you lose one when you enable dual WAN. Maybe they'll make a pro version with 8 ports in the future. Range is slightly better than with the unit it replaced, AX88U, which is important as I have a robot vacuum and various smart appliances that depend on wifi. I always keep my routers on a laptop cooling pad so I put a new Targus AWE83US pad under it which is completely flat since this unit is a little top heavy. In my use case wireless clients have the same internet bandwidth as wired clients which is a mix of 2.5 and 1 base t clients as tested on speedtest. If I should require more coverage in the future I'll get another unit and mesh them together.
