This is a noticeable improvement over my Rode Go mic (which is admittingly cheaper and still a good value). I started with the built-in mic on my Sony A6500, then went to a Rode Go to get rid of the tin can sound. It helped but wasn't perfect. I then purchased a Tascam DR-70D field recorder and paired it with the Rode Go for more control and record options. From there I knew I was still missing something (both in sound and versatility). This mic was the missing link. When I paired it with a long Samson Tourtek Pro XLR cable and a good mic stand, my product review sound quality is noticeably improved. The noise rejection is much better, but the roll-off is still pretty natural sounding which gives me a little versatility if I move my head around when I speak. Vocals are much more rich, but the sound isn't changed so much that there is heavy bass or treble being added. Again, it just sounds very natural which gives me a lot of flexibility in post-production work. The overhead from a good XLR setup gives you so much flexibility with decibel changes while not losing out on details you typically get with less expensive mics. The case + accessories were fine but nothing that feels super premium. They are plastic, and the tilting mount mechanism does just fine holding my mic (although I had to turn the screw tightly for a little more resistance). I'm sure the $700-plus microphones are the same or better in every regard, but I was looking for an affordable step up without breaking the bank. I couldn't be any more pleased with the AUD AT897.

The Audio Technica AT897 is a phenomenal microphone. Paired with the Zoom F3 field recorder and a microphome blimp, it makes for a perfect field recording combo.

I bought this after doing some research. Using it for short films and I like the sound quality. Good mic for the price.

Nice clean sound from this mic. I wish BB would offer a boom mic with cord, windscreen and mount in the future.
