This Cat 6a Ethernet cable - also sold as a Cat6a LAN cable, internet cable or RJ45 network cord - runs high speed 10 Gigabit Ethernet up to 100 m over four twisted pairs of 24 AWG stranded bare copper rated to 500 MHz: a thicker conductor than the 26 AWG common at this price, and bare copper rather than copper-clad aluminum. A wired link removes the jitter and sudden drop-outs Wi-Fi introduces, which is why cabling a desk, console or streaming box is worth it even where wireless reaches. Each RJ45 plug carries 50-micron gold-plated contacts wired to T568B, and a snagless molded boot guards the locking tab behind a desk. Backward compatible with Cat 5e and Cat6. Compatible with Netgear, TP-Link, ASUS, Linksys, Eero, Ubiquiti, Synology and QNAP gear. Stocked in 3, 5, 7, 10ft, 14, 15, 20, 25, 50 and 100 ft - short desk jumpers through long Ethernet cables between rooms. Measure the path the cable travels, not the straight line. Best for: home offices, gaming setups, routers, modems and smart TVs. Not for: in-wall runs, outdoors, or electrically noisy rooms.
Four twisted pairs of 24 AWG stranded bare copper rated to 500 MHz, carrying 10GBASE-T up to 100 m. Two things separate this from the usual cable at this price: the conductor is 24 AWG rather than the thinner 26 AWG, and it is bare copper rather than copper-clad aluminum. RJ45 contacts are plated with 50 microinches of gold and wired straight through to T568B.
Wi-Fi is convenient; it is also where the lag spikes and the mid-download stalls come from. Running a cable to a desk, a console, a streaming box or a work-from-home setup removes the interference, the contention and the drop-outs in one step. Backward compatible with Cat 6 and Cat 5e, so it works with the router you already own and is ready for the one you buy next.
Quick check. Desk, router, modem, console, smart TV, streaming box or NAS? Yes. Older Cat 6 or Cat 5e port? Yes, it is backward compatible. Permanently inside a wall or ceiling? No - that needs in-wall rated cable. Outdoors or weather-exposed? No. Running beside power cabling or through a metal rack? Choose the shielded version instead. Works with Netgear, TP-Link, ASUS, Linksys, Eero, Ubiquiti, Synology and QNAP.
The most common way an Ethernet cable dies is the small plastic release tab breaking off, after which the plug will not stay seated and the link keeps dropping. A molded snagless boot covers that tab so it does not catch while the cable is pulled out from behind a desk or a TV stand, and keeps the cord from tangling with everything else back there.
