I have had this laptop for over a year now and I still love it! I have had a couple of issues when I have too many tabs open or have been on it all day long continuously. But minor issues. If i turn it off and turn itback on it works fine.

The only concern I had about buying this laptop was the reviews complaining about the keyboard backlights. I went ahead and bought the laptop. I, too, did not like the backlights. BUT! They toggle on and off by touching the f5 key! When toggled off, I have no problem reading the keys. None. I am delighted with this little computer. What’s not to love? It is aesthetically gorgeous, fast, easy to set up, great graphics and audio, plenty of ports, a beast for productivity. While it’s not a “gamer”, I can play the only graphic hog game I play on it (Second Life) without lag. It syncs perfectly with my other devices. Love it!

I love the size and speed of this laptop. I upgraded from many models down from this one. The only thing I don't like is the keyboard color. It is gray with gray writing. It makes it hard to see what is written on the keyboard. I'm glad I am a touch typer. My last laptop had black keys and white writing.

I can't see the numbers/letters on the keys unless I have back raised and the front down, (in a position that makes it uncomfortable to use the keys and pad) . Even with that, I need to constantly move my head to get angles where I can see the lettering. ( see the attached photo) Never again will I purchase a unit with a shiny silver keyboard with back-lit white markings !! I am about ready to remark the keys with a black sharpie marker!

Keyboard,
Thanks for your review and we're sorry that your keyboard is difficult for you to see with the backlighting on. Here's an article that will help you adjust or turn off the backlit keyboard: https://dell.to/3bOZUV2.

I bought the Dell Inspiron 7000 back in January 2021 for my 1st Grader as he was struggling on the desktop computer for his zoom classes. I figured this was a reasonable compromise being a “bigger laptop” with a large touch screen monitor and larger keyboard for him to use than the smaller laptops. The first I would say 45 days the computer worked great then starting in March (of course after the return policy has ended) things slowly started going wrong with the computer. First it started with the fan constantly going on and it seemed to get louder and louder and as the fan got louder and louder the laptop seemed to struggle processing. Even on booting up there’s been days where it’s superfast and days that it seems to struggle. Not ideal but can deal with since it's just Zoom and light processing the computer is being used for. Now there is a discolored bar that pops up on the computer (see pictures) regardless of it coming straight from booting up or been on a while. Now image how distracting this can be to a 1st grader during their zoom classes and that’s been me the past few months. I’ve done everything from making sure all the drivers are updates to as far as a Factory Reset, and nothing seems to resolve the problem. Keep in mind, this is a computer being used by a 1st Grader, so the most process intensive program for this laptop are zoom classes, something which a chromebook with less processing and memory was able to handle fine. So between the loud fan, the struggling of processing, and now the bar, this laptop is basically useless. I purchased a Samsung Galaxy Flex for my 4th Grader the same time and that computer is a beast and was cheaper too than the Dell Inspiron. I’m going to take it Geek Squad to see if they can fix the problem once school is over but I have a feeling that they won’t be able to fix the problem either. When it works, it’s a solid good machine but the problem is WHEN it works and when you’re dropping close to $1,000 on a laptop, the expectations is that it should work with no problems longer than 45 days.

I purchased this laptop a little over a week ago. for the most part I was pretty happy with it until yesterday I opened it up and it was froze on the Dell logo. Next morning still froze on the Dell logo. After doing some research it turns out that this is a known issue. After reading several post on Dells community forum turns out the only way to get past this is to open up the computer and disconnect the battery. Several have posted that this resolved thier issue only to happen again soon after getting it back up and running. Who wants to have to constantly open up their computer to get it running. It's to my understanding that if you open it you will void the warranty unless you are on the phone with Dell support, which after my readings can be a lengthy process available only during working hours. If your uncomfortable with opening up your laptop your only choice is to send it to Dell which I've read several have done only to get it back several weeks later and have it lock up again. In addition to this major issue I'm not real fond of the silver lighted keys because they are very hard to see. The finger print sensor was not real reliable which wasn't to bad of a issue for me but should work better than it does. Due to the known issue this one is going back to the store for return and hopefully exchange for a different more reliable brand and or model. I simply can't afford to lose any business because my computer won't start up. So you research on this model and use your best judgement.

Got the device and set up immediately. Worked like a charm! Super fast and sleek looking. However, withing 4 days the device kept acting up. I ran the Dell diagnostic and right away came back with an error from the hardware, needing replacing. Fortunately I was able to return it and exchanged it for a different model. This one works even better.

I ordered this along side a few other laptops. such as the hp envy 15 samsung galaxy book alpha lenovo yoga 7 acer swift 3 but ultimately this won out over all of them offering me a balance between price, performance and build quality. I was looking for a 14-15.6 laptop, under 5lb, ideally closer to 3 lbs at least 5 hrs battery life, anything more would be amazing 300 nits or brighter Things I didn't need color accuracy number pad good sound Things that I appreciated but wasn't a huge deciding factor USB C power delivery Cd drive finger print scanner touchscreen trackpad - I tend to use my logitech mx keyboard - I tend to use this docked with my Logitech Mx keys Immediately I was met with a great aluminum build quality when I opened the box to take out the machine. This continued through to the hinges as I opened it up and booted it up for the first time. I think this level of build is expected in the inspiron 7000 series. Once booted, I noticed that the screen, advertised at 270 nits, is in fact noticeably brighter than than the 250 nits screens I ahve seen in other laptops I tested such as the acer swift 3, which I initially liked due to the 3lb weight. The Inspiron 7000 weighs in at just under 4lbs at 3.93, and I think thats fair considering the 15.6 touch screen. When you compare this to the HP envy 15.6 which was only .50 lbs heavier at 4.40 the difference felt massive. A win for the Dell for sure. The hardware specs are also very capable for day to day and productiviy suites like office and adobe, but I think power users needing dedicated grpahics will find that i5 cpu and integrated graphics to be lacking. For my use case of office work and daily web browsing the 12 gbs of ram of perfect, where my use case almost always hovers around 8 gbs of load. if you ever need to upgrade the ram, there are two ram slots that accept up to 16gb each for a max of 32gb. The harddrive is a SSD with a 32gb optane, meaning fast boot up and read and write speeds that are acceptable to the average user. This is not the best ssd out there but heads above the mechnaical drives that I was used to on my previous machine. For the average consumer and use case they wont feel like they are missing out on performance. The only true bottle neck here is the i5 11th gen cpu with subpar performance to it's amd counterparts. But the cpu allows for conservative battery use to stretch 5-6 hours. I was able to get a comfortable 4.5 hours of streaming watch time. Last things to add, the keyboard feels great, but the white backlights on the silver keys make it useless in any ambient light as it will wash out the letters. But in the dark it works just fine. The key travel and tactile feel is great, and one of the better ones I have used. If you think keyboards dont matter, just try using the HP envy, where I found the keys too far apart and had a hard time adjusting to it whenever I switch between the two machines. There is the finger print reader, which is fast enough but not always accurate, be sure to register your same finger twice to bolster its scan. overall for under 1k, I paid around 900 out the door for an open box and this is solid machine.

Overall, I have liked my laptop very much. It is responsive, light weight. The metal case give the laptop a solid, professional feel. The backlighted keys and touch screen make it easy to use in all kinds of circumstances. I have only two criticisms. The touch pad and finger sensor must be cleaned frequently to work consistently. Second, this is the first computer in 30 years that does not have a indicator light on the "num lock" key. Not knowing if the num lock is on or not is very annoying. I can't imagine why they would delete this feature. I would recommend this model.
