I haven't played with any Sonos but given the quirks of the Denon HEOS, I don't think I really need to be hands on. The sound of the Denons are, I think, way better. They're not more impressive but more balanced. The downside is the finickiness in the initial speaker setup and the supported formats and streaming services. Basically HEOS is nowhere near as Apple friendly as Sonos. As far as I can tell HEOS does not support ALAC or AIFF. Also HEOS requires DLNA to stream music from your computer. DLNA is not a Mac thing. I can't vouch for the Sonos on this part but I can say that the HEOS has been a little bit twitchy. Losing speaker connectivity spontaneously. Losing speaker access when ungrouping rooms. None of it was insurmountable but it's a little too hands-on for me to recommend to someone not tech oriented. I have to be honest in closing: The massive price cuts made the HEOS purchase a no-brainer. Were it not for that I'd probably still be agonizing over which Sonos pairs to get.

Great sounding stand alone speaker. I am currently using it with the Amazon Echo Dot connected via a 1/8" audio cable. This is not a Bluetooth speaker, it connects to your Wi-Fi network and then you need to use HEOS app on your device to stream music. It only allows those services supported on the HEOS app or what is already on your phone/device when used wirelessly. Sound is amazing! Only reason I did not give it the 5 stars is the fact you can only use the HEOS app services.

This is packed with sound, rivals the Sonos easily; actually better. The app is continuously improving with updates. I would have originally given it a 3.5, but because it does seem to stay connected to the network better, and it keeps adding to the list of streaming services, along with an aux option, makes this a really great speaker. I now own a couple of these, a couple of the HEOS 1s and one HEOS 5. It's a solid sounding device, then again--you can't go wrong with Denon!

I am currently using three (3) HEOS 3 speakers connected to my high end component system using the Denon HEOS Link. Excellent sound results and two of them are paired to provide a stereo sound stage in a large master bedroom with excellent imaging. I will be expanding the system to my garage with two more HEOS 3 speakers.

Our new Denon Heos 3 provides us with great sound in a compact, attractive case. Overall easy user interface, but still learning some of the ins and outs of using Apple Airplay.

I love the HEOS 3 wireless speaker! The sound is crisp clear, just perfect for my loft. I place it in the bedroom area, which is located on the upper level of the loft and I can still hear the music downstairs while cooking. The base is powerful, but not ear-hurting, which is very important for me when I have neighbors on both walls. The only complaint I have is the HEOS app. I use the iPad mini and it drops every now and then, but then it could also be my Comcast connection....or both at the moment. But overall, I'm in love with the speaker and would recommend it.

This was the most expensive speaker I ever purchased, however the sound quality is amazing. I will be purchasing the additional speakers in this family.

We bought these based upon online reviews, manufacturer information, and details from Magnolia employees. With regards to the sound alone, these are great for most average users. Being able to hook them up in stereo (if you have two) is a great feature. We, however, were looking to use them for both music and a home theatre system (which all of the sources cited above confirmed was possible) in concert with the Cinemate Soundbar. After hours of frustration trying to connect the 3's to the soundbar and getting nowhere, we gave up for the weekend and waited until Monday and contacted Customer Support. That's when the real disappointment set in: setting the 3's up to connect to the soundbar had been an option until one week prior when the manufacturer eliminated that feature during a new patch rollout. As no ETA could be confirmed for when/if the capability was ever going to be reinstituted, we repackaged everything and returned it to the store. Still looking for a good wireless home theatre solution.

The speaker came ready to use. Just followed directions in box to set up an account and then find speaker on network Not five stars because the app does not work too well on smart phone. But sounds great and has an off and on switch on speaker itself.

This is a very good speaker and comparable to Sonos. You will be happy with either. It is very easy to set up and sounds great. The app lets you switch in seconds to all of your favorite internet channels.

I love the functionality of these speakers and being able to listen in one or multiple rooms with a touch of my phone. The audio quality if OK but not as robust as my Bose system. Overall really like them.

I bought 10 of these for my house when BB had the "old" model on sale for $99 each. I called Denon, who told me the only difference between the old model and and the new model was a direct BT connection. Not needed, so I saved $200 on each speaker. I'm using them as speaker pairs in every room connected to Echo Dots. Just amazing performance....the only snag is that if you have a bunch like me use Ethernet on as many as you can to avoid dropouts. If you only have a few this is not a concern. I can play different music in every room, or group them together to play the same music in the entire house. Did I mention they were $99 each?? :)

I was sold this as a solution for sound for a classroom. It was to hook up to an IPad and also to a computer. I could not get it to connect to the network as it does not have a username option. Also it has no way to connect to the computer. I took it home and now have it functioning in my bedroom. The sound is average at best. There is also no way to use it for sound when watching a movie off your IPad! I don't liste to much music. I watch movies! I am so dissatisfied!

I think this speaker sounds great. This speaker easily fills a big room with rich sound. The only issue I had using the speaker was that to use Spotify you must be a premium member.

I actually purchased two of these to run stereo mode in my office...the sound is incredible! I now have at least one of each type of HEOS speaker! Much better sounding than the Sonos system !!!

Denon does not do wrong in the audio category...the connectivity, another issue, however, they are catching up with updates....all of these sound great. I have a 1, a couple of 3's and a 5! The sound is incredible, with the continual improvements on the app, this will be great.

These are great Bluetooth speakers and they sound good!

This is the speaker system I had been waiting for. I am able to listen to Sirius XM throughout the house now. Very Happy !!!
