I transitioned to this model from a previous generation of learning theromostat. While the features are comparable, you can definitely notice the difference in feeling between this and the more expensive model. The most noticable difference is not being able to turn the outside of the unit as you would a more traditional thermostat. It took a bit of getting used to in terms of navigating the settings on the device without the ability to "turn the dial". Once you get it there isn't much of an issue. Outside of that one thing the unit is solid. I wanted the unit in black but Best Buy didn't have that option. I realized after purchasing that the big box home improvement stores do, so that might be a better option for more color options. The previous model used to include the trim plate, but this one does not. If you're not handy to patch and paint a wall, be prepared to have the trim plate prior to the start the install especially if you're unable to match the same paint you currently have on your wall. I appreciate being able to have HVAC on a set schedule which helps keep costs down, while helping to keep the temperature comfortable.

Note: I got this open box for only $37. At that price point this thing is great! Super easy to install and works flawlessly. For full price? Id say it leaves a lot to be desired. No cover included is really bad - although I just 3d printed my own; thats not something everyone has. Its a thermostat - nothing crazy.

I love it! I went to Best Buy looking for something in particular and when I saw this Nest thermostat it was impressive. The look of it and how it works and I love that I can control it from my phone anywhere and anytime.

If you're away from home often like I am, this Nest thermostat is a game-changer. It handles things automatically and efficiently, looks great, and gives you full control wherever you are. Definitely recommend it over Ecobee for travelers, commuters, or anyone who’s not home much.
