I've used HP ink for a while now and the prints that it produces is quite good. However, the frustrating thing about HP ink and HP printers is the fact that if just one of the ink cartridges runs out of ink the printer stops working. You would think that you could just print in black, but that's not the case. I just purchased a brand new Black HP ink cartridge but when I did my first print, it wouldn't work. I found out that one of the color cartridges was out of ink so the whole system shut down. Keep in mind that this can happen when you use HP printers and ink. That's why I gave it a low rating because of this problem.

Hi there,
I might be able to provide some insight as to why it’s advantageous to use our cartridges. Original HP cartridges are designed to work better with our printers to deliver premium quality and reliability. Additionally HP has formulated inks that are water-resistant (using Colorlok paper) and fade-resistant. While those qualities might not be immediately evident, it’s important when it comes to the permanence and durability of your prints. If you’re interested, you can read more here: www8.hp.com/us/en/printers/print-permanence
I can certainly understand wanting to find more affordable options for your printing! Toward that end, you might be interested in trying Instant Ink. Details about the pay-by-the page plans can be found here: instantink.hpconnected.com

The cartridge seemed to depleat faster then expected. When I contacted the store they could not help. They offered that I contact the supplier. I decided to use Amazon in the future the product pricing is much better there.

This product is priced very high for the amount of use it provides. There are much cheaper substitutes on line.

Hi CoolBreeze, thank you for your feedback, sorry to hear you are unhappy with the Page yield of your HP 950 Black. Historically printer manufacturers used their own methods for estimating page yield. However, this made it difficult to compare different products. Nowadays, the published page yield is based on the Industry Standard for measuring yields (refer to International Standards Organization ISO 24711). The actual yield varies considerably based on the content of the printed pages, the frequency of printing, the ink used in set-up etc.You may find that you will get more pages when printing in Fastdraftmode. XL size cartridges offer up to 50% lower cost per page compared with standard size cartridges. Our recommendation would be that you leave your printer powered on in normal usage conditions, only power it down if you will not use it for an extended period of time (ie: longer than one month). For further information check out Learn About Supplies page http://hp.care/2nYUthf. You can also follow the instructions in the following document to fix this issue: http://hp.care/2qPnBsy

Hello,
I am sorry that you are not getting longer lasting usage of your cartridges. I hope to help make them last longer for you.
Provided the cartridge is not damaged or defective, the ink usage will determine how long it will last. High-density prints (like photos) will require more ink, especially if the paper is highly absorbent and the environment is dry.
That said, I have a few tips that might help:
- You can use the printer's draft mode and black-only settings, whenever possible, to save ink.
- You might find the XL version of the cartridges to be a better value.
- Instant Ink might be worth a try. Many customers like our available plans. They're based on how many pages you print monthly, You can check out the details at: HPinstantink.com
- Shutting the printer down between uses can help; however, always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That lets the printer ‘park’ so that the cartridges are protected from excessive drying.
- If you suspect that the low page yield was caused by a defective cartridge, you are always free to contact the seller.
If none of those tips work, and if a defective genuine HP cartridge is not replaced by the seller (and is still within the warranty end dates on the cartridge) you can reach out to us for support: hp.com/contactHP
