Video conferencing post the COVID pandemic has become very routine. Once an occasional event, I typically currently attend about ninety nine percent of meetings and trainings in this manner for my professional duties. In light of the aforementioned, it is paramount that headsets required for these interactions be functional, comfortable and robust as they can possibly while providing value. Having previously been very reluctant of headsets with booms, I find myself continually impressed by JLAB’s Epic Work ANC On-Ear Headset. As packaged: • JLAB Epic Work ANC Wireless On-Ear Headset • USB-C Dongle • Dock Stand • USB-C to USB-C Cable (almost 60 inches) These headsets are light and comfortable. Although they are “on-ear”, I do not feel tired wearing them for long periods. The headband is padded and appears to be durably connected to the earcups. I have previously owned headsets that had plastic connections to the earcups which eventually cracked or snapped within rather short periods of moderate use. The muffs as previously mentioned are comfortable and should have been leather in my opinion for additional durability. The right earcup houses the rotating boom which mutes conversations when vertical and unmutes in the horizontal position. This feature can definitely help with the nuances of muting and unmuting during use. Although the application in use may not depict the correct status, having the option to simply swivel the boom for the appropriate microphone status is a plus in my books. On the right earcup are also the volume rocker, power button and a JCON/logo button (default control for audio noise cancellation, Be Aware and Hear Yourself functions.) Both buttons are configurable and capable of multifunction based on the input (i.e. single, double or long tap.) The Logo button can also be disabled to prevent accidental taps. A USB-C port, an LED status indicator and additional microphone for the noise-cancelling features complete the list of items located on the right earcup. The left earcup has the charging connectors for the dock stand and another microphone for the noise-cancelling features. JLAB’s Epic Work ANC Wireless On-Ear Headset has multiple connectivity options: • Hardwired via included USB-C cable • USB-C Dongle via direct connection to compatible devices or via dock stand (which would need to be connected directly to compatible device) • Bluetooth – with ability to stay connected to two devices at any time The hardwired connection can be direct between the headset and the device using the included USB-C cable or in a daisy chain via the dock stand; this setup will require an additional USB-C cable as there will be a connection between the dock stand and device as well as a second wired connection between the dock stand and the headset. For the hardwired connection, the headset must be turned off to be recognized. The headset gets charged when hardwired. While the headset needs to switched off for this connection, the noise cancelling and Be Aware features remain available. In my experience, the equalizer options are not available via this connection. The USB-C connection option establishes a wireless connection between the headset and a compatible device. The included USB-c dongle stows away in the dock stand when not needed. This connection can be established with the USB-C dongle directly connected to the compatible device or via a connection to the dock stand when it (the dock stand) is physically connected to the compatible device via a USB-C cable such as the one included. Noise cancelling and be aware features remain available along with access to the equalizer options while connected in this manner. Connections via Bluetooth offer the most versatility in my opinion. This is the only connection with access to the JLAB app (Google Play or Apple App Store) which in turn provide capabilities listed below: • Configure power and JCON/Logo buttons • Tweak custom equalizer • Tweak custom Hear Yourself volume level • Configure safe hearing volume level • Update headset software • Access to nine different ambient sounds (soothing in my experience) which can be mixed should that be desired • Access to burn-in tool (to help break in components for “optimal performance” per JLAB Using this headset is fairly straightforward. Once turned on, the user is greeted with a confirmation voice note “JLAB on.” For initial setup, a long press of the power button activates the pairing mode and allows nearby devices to add via Bluetooth. As previously stated, the headset can be connected to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously. Once the initial pairing has been completed, simply turn off the Bluetooth on that device and repeat the pairing process with the second device. Upon turning on the headset, a “Bluetooth connected” message is heard should a previously connected device be within proximity. This message will repeat should two previously connected devices be within proximity confirming they have been connected to the headset. When turning off, “JLAB off” can be heard before shutdown. Sound output is very clear. The equalizer has presets for voice and music. A custom option is user configurable, and all three options can be used for either music or voice needs. The bass is deep and comparable to some other high end over-the ear variants I have previously owned. For calls, I have been told quality is clear. The Hear Yourself function enables the user to get a sense of the sound of their voice as heard by the recipients on the other end. There is an option to increase, decrease or disable this effect. The smart Active Noise-Cancelling is very effective in drowning out ambient sound when needed. JLAB states a threshold of up to 30 dB but I have been comfortable with about 40 dB in my experience. Should there be a need to be more conscious of your surroundings, the Be Aware mode amplifies the ambient sounds for the user. Battery appears to last long but I have yet to confirm JLAB’s 60 hours runtime with noise-cancelling enabled. In summary, JLAB’s Epic Work ANC Wireless On-Ear Headset is an outstanding performer with a premium feel and packed with impressive noise-cancelling features among others. It appears well-built and should last a while. JLAB’s generous two-year warranty should help resolve any premature issues along the way. While the headset checks are the required boxes on my list for my daily needs, I thought I would share my wish list for the next iteration. As we continue to occasionally work from home, a carrying case would go a long way to move between locations. As previously stated, the ability for the physical alignment of the boom (i.e. vertical/horizontal) which corresponds to mute and unmute to be appropriately reflected with applications would be very welcome.

Audio is excellent, comfortable even with glasses on, the earpieces can rotate to adjust for comfort, the ANC (Active Noise Cancellation), is easily accessible on the mic itself. The ANC works very well. It muffles a good portion of the outside noise. Great for working from home with a lot of background noise. The design is good, but unfortunately, the mic only goes on the Right side and can’t be reversed. The box contains: Headset, Docking system (with USB Dongle plugged in), USB-C Dongle (for docking) to plug directly into the device the headphones are being used for, and USB-C cable for charging or using as a wired headphone set, and Quick User Guide. The ANC on the mic, as stated, works very well, and allows you to hear conversations better. The mic is also very easy to put on mute so that you aren’t heard during conversations. You simply lift the mic boom and you are muted. The jLab EpicWork ANC Headphones have a lot of convenient features: - Multiple connection options (cell phone, laptop, tablet, etc.) - 2 in 1 Docking System serves as both a charging hub and a USB hub. 1. Dock (with USB-C dongle plugged in) 2. USB-C dongle plugged directly into device 3. USB-C cable plugged directly into your connections. - Bluetooth multipoint connects 2 devices simultaneously when direct connection is not in use - Quick mute rotation Mic, flip to mute rotating boom mic. Ensures clear communication during calls. - Use Google Fast Pair to find headphones. Pairs effortlessly to Android device with Google Pair (Pairs well without Google Pair too). Pairs with iPhone easily as well and can use Google Find My Device if jLab EpicWork Headphones get misplaced. - Long battery life. I still have almost a full battery after using them for 3 days 5 hours each day. - Crystal clear calls – little to no interference, static or dropped calls. I can even walk around the apartment and still not lose the connection. - JLAB APP – available from iPhone App or Google Play (Android). Just pair the jLab EpicWork Headphones for access to all functions, plus extra functions not on the headset. This include relaxing ambient sounds. I personally like the jLab EpicWork Headphones for the fact that there are only 3 major buttons: Power, Volume + or -, and ANC button on the mic boom. I can also just listen to Audio books, Music, and podcasts by just flipping up the boom mic to mute and pressing and holding the volume + and – buttons at the same time. The jLab APP explains how to change to the various available functions as well as adjust the sound balance. I find the jLab EpicWork Headset is easy to use, and the APP is easy to follow and fun to use. I recommend the jLab EpicWork Headset for ease of use and comfort. I just wish the Mic boom were reversable (can be used on either right or left side). This is why I’m only giving it 4 stars otherwise it would have been 5 stars.

I‘ve had a fair amount of JLAB headphones over the years and they all have done me pretty good for the price. These are still good on-ear active noise canceling headphones, they just disappointed me in the connection process. You can connect to these in 4 different ways, which is really just 3 depending on where you put the dongle, but the thing is, it is one method or the other. So, if you hook the dock to a PC, by default it will use the 2.4 Ghz dongle that is in the front of it. That is the only mode it will now work in. However, instead of leaving the USB-C dongle in the dock, you can also place it directly into a USB-C port and that will be the only mode it will work in. Another method is to plug the USB-C cord directly from your device to the headset, which takes priority over the dongle. The other method, which is the lowest on the priority list is Bluetooth. However, you can connect to 2 different Bluetooth devices and it will switch between those 2 devices depending on which one is active. There is no way to swap between the dongle and Bluetooth unless the dongle is disconnected. If you are using a PC to charge, you can pull the dongle out and put it in the storage space on the side of the docking stand. So, it’s not like you are listening to your PC and just swap over to a phone call via Bluetooth. Now, I feel that is the only thing you need to understand about the headset before going in, as everything else works as expected. It is pretty simplified with the power button having some different functions based on taps and holds, volume button with double tap having track skip/back and the JLAB button on the side to cycle through ANC On/Off and “Be Aware” modes. The headset is light, discreet and feels like it is meant for work. Not looking like you are trying to close out the world and easy to notice you are using them. The little microphone is flip to mute, but picks up audio clearly for conversations. As mentioned in the title, the docking station is the charger and the way you rest the headphones on it is the strangest method I have ever seen. However, it keeps them balanced and holding with a bit of magnetism. The battery life on these things are insane though, so you might only need to charge them every 3 days or so, or course pending use and ANC. If connected to your phone, you can use the JLAB app to customize your audio settings and get updates. Overall, these are good noise cancelling headphones that are best if connected to Bluetooth on both your PC and phone. Otherwise, you have to pick and choose and unplug the dongle if you want to use Bluetooth in the specific setting.

- This headset works really well and has a good quality feel and construction. - The dock that comes with this at this price point is a nice extra and it has a hefty weight so you can easily place and pull your headset off without any issues. - Being able to rotate the boom mic upwards to mute it and downwards to unmute it is a great feature in knowing if you are muted or not. I did not find any issues with the headset in regards to the functionality. As for the fit though, it didn't feel nice on my big head; it was uncomfortable. It was just a tiny bit smaller for me so the fit wasn't working and along with the clamping of the headset, it was a no go. If you have a small/normal sized head, I'm sure this will fit you just fine. The slight clamping is nice because the headset will stay on your head, but if you got a big head, it just makes it uncomfortable. I went with a plantronic which was a better fit for me; otherwise I would have kept this JLab Epic Work headset if it had fit my head.

Great headset. Just hurts my ears. The primary use of this headset was for work. The functionality is awesome, and call audio is clear for meetings or talking with clients. All mic features are nice. Flip the mic up to mute, wireless charging, and being able to switch between noise cancelling. I sometimes also play music or background ambient noise if not on a call. Its an awesome mic all around. My ears are just weird or different. The padding is soft and cushioning. I also tried streching out the headset so its not too tight. I had to switch it out for an over-the-ear headset instead. I wish I could have kept this one. Pros: Great Sound Quality. Connection is stable. Headset features. Cons: Hurts my ears.

Good sound quality. Good mike. Be aware that the cable is USB C at *both* ends. The user manual says to avoid adapters, but I found one that worked for my older desktop. Works fine with laptop and Bluetooth works fine too.

Pretty decent headset, but for longer sessions, 2+ hours, it started hurting my ears as it's an on ear model, otherwise everything worked as expected with good quality.

Delivery was fast. Sturdy construction. Comfortable to wear for long periods of time for work purposes, however, maybe its just me and my size head, but they do not stay on very well during short quick jerky movements (like flipping one's hair back). Battery Life: I found personally that almost all of the manufacturer's statistics were off. Yes it does fully charge in just 3 hours, but the 10 minute fast charge gives it just another half an hour to hour at best, not the 3 more hours that it claims. Calls were about a solid 10 to 12 hours of solid two-way calls, not the 30 hours that are claimed. Likewise, "Casual Listening" is not 90 hours as claimed but rather a more realistic 14 to 18 hours depending upon whether its movies versus music (music lasting the least time). Sound quality is pretty good for a on the ear head set at this price point. The Noise Canceling capabilities are likewise just basically OKAY for the price point but could be a lot better. General Microphone sound quality isn't too bad but it definitely changes how your voice sounds as compared to the higher quality accurate voice reproduction one tends to get with higher price point devices like the similar Plantronics on ear headset that cost more than double the price of this headset. A major plus that this headset possesses it it ability to continue to be used while it is plugged in recharging whereas the more expensive Plantronics cannot do that. The charging cradle is not too sturdy and the headset falls off of it if bumped and or brushed up against, but if pugged in the connection is good and the device can be worn and used while charging with confidence. It was only the lesser voice reproduction qualities that stopped me from rating this device 5 out of 5 stars and only gave it 4 stars. I would definitely recommend this device to friends and family or any small business owner needing to find an economical choice of a headset when buying a half a dozen to a couple of dozen headsets are required. I got this device as a backup for my regular headset and for that purpose it is absolutely perfect.

If you work in a busy office or home office, the JLAB Epic Work ANC Wireless Headset is just what you need to take your calls and meetings to the next level. In the box you get the headset, charging dock with an additional USB-C port to make up for the port the charging base takes up, a USB-C Dongle which is already plugged into the extra port in the charging base (there is also a dummy port for storage if you’re not using the dongle), and a really nice braided USB-C cable to connect everything. Connecting the Epic Works couldn’t be easier and more importantly, you have options. The fastest, easiest connection is to plug in the charging dock (with the dongle already in place) into your PC or laptop and power on the headset. The dongle comes hard paired to the headset. You can bypass the charging dock and just plug the dongle directly into your device; however, on my Macbook Pro (and most Macbooks) the width of the dongle covers both USB-C ports. Next, you can connect via Bluetooth to any capable device. There is Bluetooth multipoint connectivity so you can connect to two devices, (my iPad and work laptop) to get through the day. It is important to know that connecting this headset to multiple devices requires you to use Bluetooth only. Using the USB-C dongle can not be one of the two connections. When the dongle is connected, it takes precedence. The third and final way is to simply plug them in. The Epic Work’s also work directly connected if needed, or if your battery starts to die during a long conversation. With the connection out of the way, the next thing to do is download the Epic app. This can get a little confusing since there is both a JLab Work App and a regular JLab App. Even though these are part of the “Work” line, they are not yet configured as part of the Work app. The other issue I have with the app is you need to connect the headset to a phone to configure them with the app, and this is something you will definitely want to do. I have not found a JLab App for desktop for any OS. I don't know about you but when I think about a work product, I generally think bare-bones and stripped down. The Epic Work headset is anything but. This headset sounds amazing. Listening to music - the bass is deep and thumping, the mids are clean with a nice sound stage and the highs are crisp. When talking on the phone or in Teams calls, the other side was able to hear me without issue, background noises were all but eliminated with out my voice sounding choppy or mechanical, and all they hear is your voice. I love that through the app you can control the volume of the sidetone or what JLab calls “Hear Yourself”. The noise canceling microphone swings up and down - flip it down to answer calls, flip it up to mute the call. The only thing missing is a prominent “in use” light which comes in handy when using the headset in an office setting to alert folks that you are on a call or in a meeting. This in my opinion is a big miss. The app provides an equalizer which has two presets, one for music and one for voice as well as a custom setting so you can further personalize your sounds. You also get ANC noise canceling which worked well blocking outside sounds as well as “Be Aware” mode or hearthrough, which worked surprisingly well when listening at lower volumes. There is also a tab in the app that lets you configure background sounds like rain, forests etc. The Work ANC headset has the usual complement of buttons with convoluted button press combinations, power/pair, volume up & down which also controls the music track and the large JLab button on the microphone side which controls the noise canceling features and cycles through the options. The Work ANC has amazing battery life and has a 10 minute charge to get an additional 10 hours of use. Charging can be done by simply setting the headset back in the charging dock or plugging the headset in directly. I give the JLab Epic Work ANC Wireless Headset four stars, deducting one star for the lack of an in use light and no desktop way to configure it. Otherwise, this is an excellent headset at a great price. I highly recommend it for anyone working from home or needing a bit more privacy on calls at the office.
