You can use this as a stand alone speaker. If you use an AVR set to "stereo," all music can play through it. If you use an AVR and set it to "cinema," the center speaker will be devoted to movie dialogue.

How tall is the speaker housing
8 inches is not correct. The speaker housing is 7 inches tall without the rubber feet installed. With the rubber feet installed it sits at 7.25 inches tall.

Is it a good match (Timbre) to use R 52 C along with R-820 Fs which is currently being used as a front speaker (and R41M will be used for surround)?
Yes! This is actually the center speaker that will match the R820F Reference speakers. I have the R620Fs (I just didn't have room for the bigger size of the R820Fs) and together they sound great! Using the R41Ms as surrounds is also a great recommendation.
