I was buying a laptop to replace my previous laptop that had broken hinges after a couple of years of use. I figured I would buy from a solid brand like Lenovo and spend a little more on better specs like an Ultra Chromebook. I was pretty happy with my purchase. It was pretty snappy on programs even playing some games like Roblox. Sound was good from the speakers as well. Then within mere months of use the hinges started for crack and within days the hinges actually came off of the screen damaging it in the process. It’s because of the design of the hinges had tiny metal screws going in to cheap plastic. It’s a terrible design but it’s clear to me that it was designed this way on purpose so that it would break. Let me be clear I had babied the screen too. Rarely opening and closing it. But you can see how poorly designed it is in the picture. Worse yet when I contacted Lenovo they REFUSED TO HONOR THEIR WARRANTY. They said they do not cover physical defects. But this goes against their own warranty policy that states that they cover defects in material and workmanship. Clearly this is a defect in the material if it just crumbles through normal use. When I went to look for my box to find the serial number I had found my old Chromebook that I had to replace with broken hinges. Guess what brand it was? Yeah. And go ahead and Google Lenovo hinge issues and you will see this is a very common issue with them. It’s a known issue dating back years now and they refuse to fix it or honor their warranty. I’m never buying another Lenovo product again.

Purchased this in November 2023, opened it Christmas Day 2023. Used it very lightly until the hinge broke in September 2024. Best Buy says it's not covered and wouldn't be worth it to fix. I called a local repair place and he said the same. Moreover, he said the hinge issue is VERY COMMON with this design. Most people tend to open the Chromebook from the corner which puts stress on the hinges and they will break. The cost to fix (upwards of $300) requires a new screen so it's obviously not worth the repair. He said to avoid this issue, open your Chromebook VERY CAREFULLY from the EXACT CENTER. Otherwise, you're vulnerable to this very common problem. I'm sad because now this is just another piece of hardware to toss in the landfill. Also, I was pretty happy with the Chromebook itself...had no complaints, really, until this happened. But the hinge design makes this a really poor purchase and I cannot recommend this product to anyone.

Best buy ewfused to repair my loose screen while it was still under warranty!! hinge defects in their Flex and Yoga series laptops. The lawsuit alleges that Lenovo sold these laptops with a defective hinge system, causing the screens to flicker, freeze, or black out. Furthermore, it claims Lenovo was aware of the defect but failed to disclose it to consumers. Key details of the lawsuit: Alleged Defect: The lawsuit focuses on a faulty hinge mechanism in Lenovo Flex 5 and Yoga 730 laptops.

The hinge broke after four months of light use. It was never dropped or abused. The screen is separating at the hinge and we can't open or close it without risk of breaking it further. Lenovo will not cover under warranty and is forcing us to buy an upgraded warranty before they will fix it. Waste of hundreds of dollars

I usually love Lenovo products. I had my previous Lenovo Chromebook for about 5 years, We saved up some money and decided it was time for a new one. I settled on this one, a little pricey, but worth it for me. I normally just surf the web and pay my bills. Nothing to crazy. Well the first issue arose about 2 months in. I kept hearing a crack noise when I opened and closed it. Only to discover (like a few other reviews) the screen corner was popped out. I contacted Lenovo because my laptop has a warrently through them, for them to basically tell me it was not a defect in the product but something I had done and was not covered through them. Ohkay cool a BRAND NEW expensive laptop now needs to go get fixed. Then today for me to just be typing out a message and one of the keys just pop off. This is the worst product. I wish I could return it. Once I save up some extra money I'll just be getting a different brand. Because not only can I not close my laptop in fear of the screen breaking or cracking I am now having issues with the keys.

This is easily the worst laptop I've ever held. If you install a third-party browser, it starts lagging so much that it's impossible to use. Honestly, ChromeOS is the worst OS I’ve ever worked with—everything is slow and buggy right out of the box. Plus, after reading all the reviews about the hinges falling apart after a month, I decided to return it on the second day. Extremely disappointed.

The plastic hinge broke. Lenovo says it is not covered under warranty. Otherwise, this is a good laptop. I suspect that the plastic hinge will keep breaking.

Computer was in use for only three weeks before the computer started separating on the back corner. Contacted Lenovo but they refused to fix it saying it was not a hardware issue.

Lenovo Flex 5I Chromebook A Fatal Flaw / Achilles Heel / Reason to Avoid All of the positive features of this seemingly wonderful device are completely negated by the extraordinarily poorly designed hinges. You won’t be able to fully appreciate the touchscreen, clear upward firing speakers, backlit keyboard, sufficient RAM, speedy response, decent battery life, or the flexibility referred to in the Model number. Nope - just a simple physical attachment component: The hinges. A high percentage of their hinges are defective, Lenovo knows they are defective, and Lenovo will (despite a lawsuit ) deny and obfuscate the issue to keep from replacing or compensating customers for their engineering (or sourced parts) flub. Obviously, hinge durability will not affect every single device. You might get lucky! Mine worked properly for about a year. But when a hinge fails, it causes the frame around your screen to separate just behind it, making it impossible to open and close the device without snapping the whole thing apart. I find I can operate mine now by leaving the screen at a very precise angle, never daring to adjust it, much less use it in ‘tent’, flat or tablet mode. Not exactly ideal. The sad thing is that the canned customer response to everyone who reports this is of no help at all and seeks to avoid any corporate responsibility. Check out the other reviews online regarding these crappy hinges. Just something to consider as you shop for a durable chromebook…

Here's a list of everything I encountered after 3 days of use: - 6-hour battery life straight out of the box when idle. Goes down to 4 when watching the video. - Closing the lid causes the entire thing to black screen and requires a restart to fix - Restarting went from being instantaneous to taking around 5-minutes - Bluetooth got randomly disabled, and I couldn't turn it back on even after rebooting. I assumed this was a chrome-os issue, but it persisted after a factory reset so now I'm not so sure.

I just returned the Lenovo flex 5i Chromebook plus. This machine did in fact have the Chromebook plus branding on the cover. Overall I thought it was a fantastic machine until I tried to use some of the " standard" Chromebook features like " help me write". It was nowhere in the settings to activate. I went back to Best buy and check the other Chromebooks and they all had the setting. This one did not. When I googled around, an answer came up saying that this machine did not support that feature. This led me to believe it might meet the Chromebook plus specs, but is in fact not a true Chromebook plus because it did not have all the AI features. I figured this would lead to a lot of frustration down the road not so much because I was missing this feature, but that somehow it was not a true Chromebook Plus.

I liked this computer initially. However - after owning it for 6 months the hinges broke, and when I try and open the screen it puts pressure on the screen to the point that it discolors it and unclips the screen at the bottom. I was denied a warranty claim. I used the computer less than a dozen times in this time period.

Worst customer service. I bought this laptop online. It was shipped from this store 63 Ranch Dr Milpitas, CA 95035 . The shipping employee stole my laptop and sent me a logitech keyboard. I take it to the store in Las Vegas Maryland pkwy and the manager refuses refund says to call corporate . they give me a return label . i have called corporate 4 times they said i will receive my refund. BUT corporate ships the keyboard back to me and says no refund because its the wrong item. All the corporate people can barely speak english. i still have not received my refund after 14 days. And i already bought the same laptop a 2nd time from a local las vegas bbuy store. my order number is BBY01-806923626318 and i really need my money back. Please call a Las Vegas store manager on Maryland Pkwy to except my refund today. its the 15th day on the return policy and i am walking in store today ready to speak to a manager. and you better help me this time after all the money i have spent at this store. it says on the website all stores can accept returns if you are shipped the wrong item and they refuse to help me. is it my fault their own employee stole my item and shipped me a 20$ keyboard? They think i am trying to pull a scam and will not refund $300 to me. Worst customer service i have ever had.

Owned less than 60 days and plastic hinges broke on one side with just normal open and close usage. Now I have to leave it open on a desktop in hopes the other side doesn’t come attached. $370 already broke. Can’t return and can’t use properly. Waste of money.

Just like others have experienced the hinge on my Lenovo has failed. The glue attaching it to the case let go after 10 months of use, starting a warranty claim now and will update with the results. Spend your money on a better company.

This review is more for Best Buy than the Lenovo Flex 5i. I bought this as an open box for approximately $337. The computer was completely dead and wouldn't charge. How did this pass inspection with the Geek Squad? When I brought it back, they checked it out and were just as perplexed as I was.

It works well, quick and the touch screen is nice. However, I had the same problem as many of the reviewers here. After 14 months, I just closed the laptop and one of the hinges completely broke. So disappointed in the cheap construction.

So far, not impressed. I was unable to access the internet at the University where I volunteer, and the tech staff there told me Chromebooks are notoriously problematic, but they got me on line. Next, the Microsoft-Office Home & Student software I ordered at Best Buy's suggestion downloaded, but will not execute. The Geek agent would courteous, but couldn't help and told me I had to take it in to a Best Buy store.
