Washer is high tech but top load door is very poor quality. The hinge broke within 3 months of having the unit. Both LG and Best Buy refused to fix even though I have both total protection plan and warranty from LG. Both companies pointing fingers w no accountability. I would NOT recommend this washer, LG or Best Buy appliances.

Deeply disappointed with the machine design. The washing is adequate as some clothes still come out not dirty but not really clean either. The biggest problem is they mounted a huge, heavy lid on plastic hinges. Normal use after a year cracked one of the plastic hinges and now the lid doesn’t close without having to lift the lid up. It’s a design flaw that can’t be fixed. It could be replaced but if it’s with another plastic hinge then it’s just going to break in a year again. Looking online I saw multiple reviews stating the same thing. Also, the complicated cycles doesn’t allow for a simple “gentle cycle” option. You have to chose another cycle then manually change the spin, temp, time settings.

Hi, Chadd. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We understand your concern about the LG Washer (WT8400CW) model and the challenges you've faced with both the lid design and cycle settings. The soft-close glass lid, supported by plastic hinges, can crack over time due to stress or misalignment.
To fix the lid, check the hinge bushings and dampers, as these can often be replaced individually. If the lid is cracked, a full replacement may be necessary. Ensure the washer is on a level surface to prevent extra stress on the hinges.
For cycle settings, the “Download Cycle” option in the LG ThinQ app allows you to add a Gentle or Delicates cycle to the control panel. You can also adjust spin speed, temperature, and soil level on most preset cycles. For more help, visit https://www.lg.com/us/support/help-library/lg-thinq-how-to-use-download-cycles--20152746918577.

The washer worked well for 11 months and does a decent job at what it is designed to do. After a load of light clothes, I noticed the top lid was loose and after looking around, saw that the door hinge had cracked. There has been no physical damage to the product, except for a very cheap appear plastic hinge that connect the lid to the frame. LG support claims this is a physical user issue and will not fix the now worthless washer. I regret buying this washer and after owning LG washer/dryer combos for roughly 20 will likely never buy another after this experience. Be weary and do your research first. After looking online, it seems that my experience is not an isolated incident.

Doesn't clean. Leaves a water line on the clothes. Deodorant marks still on clothes. Never had this problem with my previous washer that had an agitator. I've tried using more water button. I've tried washing half a load which defeats the saving water aspect but stop doesn't come out clean. Horrible.

Hi, Kevin. Thanks for sharing your experience with the LG Washer (WT8400CW) model. We understand how important it is for your clothes to come out fresh and fully clean after every cycle.
This model uses TurboDrum technology and a high-efficiency impeller, which cleans by rotating the drum and water jets rather than using a traditional agitator. If you're seeing residue or water lines, one step you can try is selecting the Heavy Duty cycle with Warm or Hot water and adding the Extra Rinse option. Also, make sure to use HE detergent in the recommended amount — too much or too little can affect wash performance. I was sadly disappointed in this model. I have previously used an LG that lasted 12 + yrs. So I was excited to return to this brand. Unfortunately I did not review the reviews before purchasing. This model seems to have a problem with tearing up and stretching material. From jackets to bed sheets. I attempted to try different settings but it still had the same issues. I instead returned this and paid the difference for a LG front loader. The customer service and delivery men were so professional and it went smoothly.

Are any of these reviews written AFTER using the machine? This lid has no rubber gasket, so the water seeps out from the lid. While watching my first load being washed, I was shocked at the amount of water on the inside of the lid. THEN I noticed that water was gathering on the OUTSIDE of the lid. When I stopped the washer, the amount of water dripping down from every edge of the lid was insane. This is a major design defect. Or maybe mine is defective? But I looked at the product photos again, and notice there is not a gasket in any of the product photos. So this must be the design! Some other issues - it cannot handle heavy blankets. I tried another load, and it's been going for 5 HOURS. It keeps spitting more water in to try to balance. I've stopped it twice to rearrange, but it's not helping. To add to that, there is no spin-only setting (maybe on the phone app??) I finally had to remove the blanket and will take it to the laundromat after venting my frustration in this review! Another annoyance - the black panel makes buttons difficult to see. When we first got it installed and were excited to do our first load, we couldn't find the power button! I'm only in my 40s... my eye's aren't THAT bad yet, but we had to get our phone light out to find it. I will give you one pro - the washer is very quiet. We are really bummed to have to replace this because we were impressed at how quiet it is.

Hi,Tina. Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with the LG Washer (WT8400CW) model. We understand your concern about facing multiple challenges with the washer. We strive to provide reliable, high-quality products that exceed our customer's needs and expectations. Regarding the water on the lid, we recommend checking to ensure the washer is leveled properly. A washer that’s not level can sometimes cause water to pool or leak in unexpected ways. As for the heavy blanket issue, we suggest trying the "Bulky Bedding" cycle, designed specifically to handle such items. In regard to the black panel, if the washer’s control panel is hard to see, we recommend using a brighter light source near the washer or adjusting the ambient light around it. We’re glad to hear that you’re enjoying the quiet operation of your washer. Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us, and we’re here to help get things working perfectly.

Returning this. Have used it for a week now and I’m beyond disappointed. Returning it for an older model washing machine where you can actually control the water level. This is supposed to be energy efficient but it literally does not fill with enough water to even completely submerge your clothes. After a full wash cycle things come out with parts of the clothes dry from never having been soaked by water. This has happened multiple times. (Including a pic of one of the times). Clothes do not feel clean. The only option is to wash on the “deep wash” setting. But you can’t do delicates or anything else on deep wash. It also does not come standard with a delicates or gentle cycle. You have to select “downloaded” and go on the app to add a setting for delicates. The other issue is the detergent dispenser does not drain completely. It’s always filled with water that just sits. I’m shocked this has received so many good reviews. I love my LG dryer so I had high hopes for this washer.

Do not, under any circumstances, buy this LG washing machine. From day one, it has been a nightmare, and the customer service experience has only compounded the frustration. The most glaring issue is the persistent, horrible smell emanating from the machine's tub. It doesn't matter what detergents I use or how diligently I follow the cleaning instructions—the stench remains. I've owned several washing machines in my life and have never encountered such a problem, nor have I ever needed to perform so much "maintenance" on a machine just to keep it from stinking. Keep in mind, I purchased this LG washing machine in February 2025, so it's essentially a brand-new machine! In a desperate attempt to resolve the issue, I even spent over $200 on a plumber to inspect and replace the water lines, only to be told that the odor originates from the machine itself. So, I followed protocol and purchased washing machine detergents to clean the tub as per the warranty service request and the smell is still there. The warranty, both the manufacturer's and the extended Geek Squad warranty, have proven utterly worthless. Geek Squad refuses to assist because the issue falls under the manufacturer's warranty, which begs the question: what exactly is the point of paying extra for an extended warranty if it provides no additional coverage? LG's warranty service has been equally unhelpful, with representatives seemingly uninterested in resolving the problem or taking responsibility for their faulty product. It feels like nobody wants to help fix the issue or take responsibility of their product and service. Save yourself the headache, the wasted money, and the disgusting smell. Avoid this LG washing machine and definitely don't waste your money on an extended warranty that offers no real value. You're better off washing your clothes by hand.

We’ve owned this for barely over a year and the plastic around the glass lid is already cracking and falling off into the clothes. The lid doesn’t even work now and the cracks are continuing around the top of the washer a well where the clothes go in. Apparently this is a very common and reoccurring issue even after getting it fixed that we weren’t aware of before hand. Stay away and get something else, I’m going to look at purchasing a completely different one because I don’t want to keep dealing with the same issue over and over again. Shouldn’t have to after spending $800 on this barely over a year ago.

Worst purchase experience ever . Best Buy provided poor customer service in handling issues . Did not compensate or exchange for a comparable product after 3 weeks and 2 new replacement machines after first deliver . How is a brand new item non functional on delivery ? How is the second one not worked as well delivered the next week? Then they just wanted to keep replacing with bad item. They promise to replace with new set then tried to limit me to certain brands to replace with . Then offered a set less than what I paid for or cheaper model. Instead of letting me get an adequate model of similar purchase which was only $20-30 more per unit . Yes, i said it correct $20-30 difference. They would prefer to lose a Best Buy card holder over $50-60 price difference then comp it . They rather loose a $1600-1800 sale for $60 buck difference . So I told them to return and pick these lemon or products recieved up. I purchase a new home two weeks ago and had issues with this set since deliver . I have been inconvenience with re-arranging my schedule for replacement / redelivery and being without a dryer and washer functioning properly to wash cloths . Had to drive two cities over to my old home which I no longer have access to now to dry clothes and wash . Now left again on week three trying to figure out how to wash and dry clothes with no functioning product waiting for them to pick up return which is another nightmare and unorganized. So I can go to Lowe’s or Home Depot so they can replace with a working set . Oh here is the kicker why did they Best Buy representative ask did you use the gift cards yet from the promo . I said no I been to busy trying to get you all to send a working product . She was like since you want a refund of items I’m cancel all the gift cards for the purchase promo to??? How distasteful . So not only did you provide poor service , bad product , and you want my gift card back to ? What is going on Best Buy when did you all become less customer based ? Well I won’t be using my best buy card again once then and will be paying off the refrigerator I purchase with this disfuctional washer /dryer set you sold . LG you need to check you production on these new sets they are not up to standard and inconvenience when you recieved bad product . Best Buy do better on customer service . You will not be in business long if you keep running customers off

I know this is lengthy, but worth the read! This washer gave me problems right from the start. It make a metal on metal noise when there is any medium to heavy load. I even ran it with just water and it still make the noise. Customer service is a joke. I called them at least 3 times. They offered to come out, but they said I would be charged if they found it was not covered under the warranty. On the first call they said it was not level (this was professionally installed and I sent them pictures of a level next to the washer at different angles. The next time they said the washer was probably overloaded. I showed them pictures of it only 1/2 full. I also ran it with just water and it still make the clanking noise. The 3rd call, they admitted to it being a manufacturing defect, but then tried to take back their statement. The warranty has now expired and I am left with a defective product. I will never buy an LG product again, just based on their customer service. Had problems with the matching dryer, as well.

1. I had my older washing machine for 10+ years, and it was still going strong! I only bought this one to upgrade appliances & because I deserved a new washer. BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER. What I wouldn't do to get my older machine back. 2. This machine is only 3 months old and it's been staining my clothes with black residue. 3. Yes, I run tub clean cycles often as per the manual. 4. Yes, LG made me purchase a tub cleaner and run the cycle 3x back to back to rule out it's not me. 5. I did as I was told, sent pictures of all 3 cycles I ran. 6. Then I did a load of laundry and THE STAINS ARE NOW 1000000% WORSE! DID I MENTION THEY ARE PERMANENT STAINS??? OVER $900 worth of clothes damaged, and they seem to prolong the troubleshooting.

We have had this for a year. About 2 months ago, I started noticing black marks on our lighter items, especially sheets. I contacted LG customer service and was told to do a tub clean. Note, I regularly run tub clean. First tub clean did nothing. Then I was told to buy a specific tub cleaner and to run it three times. It seemed to help for a couple of weeks. Now I have to run tub clean with their recommended cleaner at least once a week. I'm afraid to run a load without running tub cleaner first because I don't want to ruin more items. FYI: the black marks are permanent. So buyer beware!

Would give zero stars if possible. This is our second unit in a week. The first one made it 5 hours before we got an error message and were unable to use it. We contacted Best Buy who sent a tech who then confirmed it was broken. A week later we just received our second unit. It was infinitely more efficient. It lasted 3 washes before i got the same error message. We followed all all of the instructions and had professionals set up both washers. We also had a geek squad tech attempt to fix it. I believe this model is a lemon. Dont buy it.

This is a terrible washing machine. I haven’t had it for 6 months and I regret buying it. It has this super deep tub you would think was great for washing a king comforter but it’s terrible. My comforter doesn’t even fill the tub half way and every time you wash it (even with its deep fill option). The top of it comes out dry and with soap on it. Clothes also do not come clean at all. I have a baby and some poo got on her car seat cover, placed it in the washing machine and it it looks just like it did when it went in. Unfortunately I was not able to return it during the return window because I went through a bad delivery when my daughter was born and now they won’t take it back.

Hi, Brandi. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand your concern with the LG Washer (WT8400CW) model, especially given the challenges you’ve faced with its performance. We strive to provide reliable, high-quality products that exceed our customer's needs and expectations. The deep tub on your washer is designed to handle large loads, but it sounds like the agitation and water level may not be optimal for certain bulky or heavily soiled items like your comforter and baby gear. To improve cleaning results, we recommend using the "Heavy Duty" cycle for larger items, as this is designed for bulkier loads like comforters. You could also try adding a bit more detergent if you’re washing a large or soiled item, as it may need a bit more to get fully clean.
Additionally, if there’s still residue left on items after washing, it’s a good idea to check the washer’s drainage and spin cycle. Sometimes, if the washer isn’t draining properly or if it’s overloaded, it can affect the wash quality. For the first couple of months the washer was fine . However, after a while , it started to make a terrible noise during the spin cycle and will not drain . We had LG maintenance come out 3 separate times and it still doesn’t work. We never wash big loads so this caught us off guard and very disappointing given the price.

Hi, Deja. Thank you for sharing your experience with the LG Washer (WT8400CB) model. We appreciate your patience and want to help ensure your washer performs as expected.
If the unit is making loud noises during the spin cycle and not draining properly, we recommend checking the drain hose for any kinks or clogs and confirming that the washer is level on all four corners. An uneven surface can cause excessive vibration and affect drainage. Also, inspect the filter located inside the drain pump—debris buildup can restrict water flow and lead to drainage issues. Third party delivery service installed my drain hose in the wrong place, ran a quick wash per protocol, and water flooded my hardwood floors and my finished basement ceiling. Literally ran around with a screaming 10mo old grabbing buckets and sopping up water with my own towels. They returned to recheck their install and blamed both my plumbing and the LG product. Water remediation arrived and correctly installed the drain hose in two seconds and the machine is perfectly fine. My house ruined. Absolute nightmare!!!!!!!

Hi, Jessica. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We understand your concern about this situation, especially with a little one to care for. It’s good to hear that the machine is working fine after the drain hose was correctly installed. We strive to provide high-quality products that exceed our customer's needs.
While it seems like the installation process was the main issue, we want to assure you that LG products are designed for durability and efficiency when set up properly. To help prevent future issues, we recommend confirming that the drain hose is installed according to the guidelines outlined in the owner's manual. Ensuring the hose is correctly positioned and that the plumbing system is in good condition will help avoid water flow issues.
