Buying washers & dryers

Finding the best washer and dryer for you.

Washers and dryers are some of the most essential appliances in your home. That's why it's so important to select the right washer and dryer for your needs. Start by assessing the area where you’ll be putting your washer and dryer to determine the size and how it will fit.

You have a number of options when it comes to a washing machine’s cleaning process. Some top-loading washers feature an agitator, which creates the most friction and is useful for heavy-duty items that get badly soiled, like t-shirts and jeans. Other top-loading washers have an impeller that just moves the water, making it gentler on everyday clothing. You can also choose a washing machine with a removable agitator if you want the best of both worlds. Or you can opt for a front-loading washer, which saves water and performs best with slightly smaller loads than what large top-loading washers accommodate.

When it comes to dryers, your biggest choice will be between a gas dryer or electric dryer, which is usually determined by what hook-up is available in your home (though you can install a new hook-up). You can look for features you may want, such as a dryer with vibration reduction or a ventless dryer. Dryer accessories are also available and can make installation easier.

Setting up your washing machine and dryer.

Think about set-up before you shop for washing machines and dryers. Your hook-ups will determine whether you need a gas or electric dryer. The measurements of your space will dictate how large your machines can be and which way the doors should open for an ideal arrangement. If you’re not sure what door arrangement will be best, you can choose a washer and/or dryer with a reversible door hinge.

Side-by-side machines are the best washers and dryers if you have a decent amount of space and enjoy having storage above your units. They are also the easiest option to install. Stacked laundry appliances, on the other hand, are more complicated to install but save space on the floor and reduce the amount of bending over you must do to complete a load. There are also washer dryer combos that accomplish both tasks if you have very limited space.

If you need help installing your washer and dryer appliances, Best Buy’s appliance delivery and installation service is there for you.
