Choosing a Garage or Commercial Vacuum

Benefits of a wet/dry vac.

When you need a heavy-duty vacuum for cleaning up sawdust, dirt, sand and other debris left behind from remodeling or other projects, a wet/dry vacuum provides the extra power you need. A garage vacuum, such as a Shop-Vac, Stanley or other brand, is durable enough to tackle wet or dry messes. The wheeled canister is easy to roll, and the hose with attachments makes it easy to suck up large amounts of debris, reach into corners, and clean around a workbench or other obstacle. Some wet/dry vacs can also operate as a blower or attach to a port on your power tools for collecting dust as you work.

Finding the right size shop vacuum.

For large-scale jobs where you’ll need to clean up an entire work area, choose a large-capacity model that can hold 10 gallons or more. For mid-size jobs, a 5-gallon capacity cleans up nicely while taking up less storage space. You may also want to consider buying a portable wet/dry vac with a smaller capacity for quick cleanups, such as touching up the interior of your vehicle or clearing out dust and dirt from your garage organizers and tool chests.

Benefits of a commercial vacuum.

If you need a powerful, high-capacity vacuum to keep your office or workspace clean, look for an upright commercial vacuum. These types of vacuums operate in the same way as a residential vacuum, but they are designed to last longer and withstand regular use in high-traffic areas.

While a wet/dry vac can tackle large amounts of debris within a small area, a commercial vacuum works better for cleaning up leftover dust and debris over your entire workspace. The wheels and upright handle on a commercial vacuum make it easier to maneuver over a large area compared to the hose and attachments on a wet/dry vacuum. Many commercial and garage vacuums come with several attachment options for large-scale cleanups and reaching nooks and crannies. If you need more light to see where you’re cleaning, you may want to consider portable power options for extra lighting away from an outlet.
