I watched and read many reviews about playgrounds 2 and just about every one focused on the micro transactions and how it's a cash grab. I get what the stink is about but just playing the game itself if fun and nice to pick and play. Sure I want all the great players and I can buy the whole roster if I want. I can also grind it out and try to unlock them too which is what I plan to do. Yes it is tedious at a point but also what makes me want to come back and play more. If I unlock all the players then I'll just be bored and won't play at all. I got the game for less than 20 bucks and it was a good investment in my eyes.

Like old school NBA jam. Loses a star for having to grind unlock 80 percent of the roster vs paying more money
This review is from NBA Playgrounds 2 - Nintendo Switch

Bought the game for my 8 year old for Christmas. I have spent as much time playing as he has. It takes you back to the days of NBA Jam. I only wish the process to unlock all the players (without paying for it) didn't take quite as long.

The kids love this game. They even roped me into it. It is not complicated and the tutorials help learn the moves. You can improve your players and unlock more simply by playing. Fun game for just $19.99 which is what we paid for it.

I bought this game on a sale after enjoying the first game well enough on Switch. The second game is a good return to form with expanded rosters and more classic players. The only problem is you start with an extremely limited random roster of I believe around 10 players or so. This makes it common that of your random starters you may not even have one player from your favorite team(s). The work around is playing the game and unlocking character packs as you go. The way the game attempts to push you is into buying the $7.50 dlc that unlocks everything (though you have to spend $10 in the eShop and have some change). But this is easily the best way to go as you get all players now and in the future with some extra cash for packs that feature cosmetic clothing upgrades. It's a fun game with some cool new modes but if you buy PLAN on spending the extra $10 to buy the DLC.

Fun to play with and against other people. Also the season mode can be hard to put down. Only thing annoying is that you start with so few players, but as you unlock more players it gets better.

This game is pretty fun. It kind of reminds me of NBA Jam but not quite. Controls are ok but needs a little work. Graphics aren't bad. All in all, a good game if you're looking to ball it up street style.

This game requires heavy grinding in order to unlock all characters and courts. Of course, you can always spend the extra $10 to unlock all the content. I vote for the grind; playing this game is fun whether solo or co-op, so paying for the content just takes the hustle out if the game. Controls are tight, easy to pick up and play; but don't get it confused, it you want to rack them points up then you need to work on your skills. Now for all the people that equate it to NBA Jam; it's not, but closest thing we have for current gen. If you like balling and don't mind the grind, then it's worth the cop. It's a fun arcade basketball game to have in the library.

Does it have micro transactions? Of course it does. Do they break the game? No not really. You still have to level up every player and then conduct skill challenges to achieve their highest potential. If you play one season and win the championship you usually unlock one pack with 4 players and some vc bucks. It's a grind but the gameplay is awesome. I love the new camera and special player animations. The short meter seems to have less lag than the first version of Playgrounds. Overall this game gets a B+.

Best sorts game and if you like high flying dunks, this game does it in an arcade fashion. Fun for anyone and easy to pick up and play. Best sports game in switch.

Great game with more NBA players than the first one. Fun and easy to learn. Only down side is microtransactions. I highly recommend this game.

Great price. Fun game. Perfect for fun, arcade style. Not realistic but that’s what makes it great. Would definitely recommend.

It’s like NBA Jam but for a new generation. Really fun game. Only downside is some of the players are really expensive to unlock

This is a cross between NBA Jam and NBA Street. Very fun and addicting. This game gets 5000 times better when you play with friends or family. My only complaint is that it gets a little reptivive after you beat season mode. I wish there was some sort of story or campaign. Otherwise, got this for $20 and thought that was worth the price. Runs pretty well on the Switch. Loading times are a touch long but nothing to deter anyone from getting this game.

I bought this game for my 10 year old boy. I have NBA 2K for PS4 and he likes playing with me sometimes, but it's pretty difficult for him. This 2K Playgrounds is more his level. It doesn't so much help him learn the game, but at least it's enjoyable for him and he can keep up. Reminds me a lot of NBA Jam back in the day, so it's pretty fun for me as well....if only I could hold onto those tiny controllers!

NBA Jam style 2 on 2 is back! Game is fun, micro transactions can damper the experience a little bit.
