I bought this lens with my Nikon D5200 instead of the standard 18-55. While it is a heavier lens, the extra wide angle of 16mm and the zoom of 85 makes a big difference - perfect for landscape, hiking, climbing, and other outdoor photography when a zoom to 200mm or more is not necessary (ie wildlife). I also have an 18-200, 50, and 10-20, but this lens will be on the camera far more often because of its versatility and sharper imaging.

This is my 4th Nikon lense for my D300s. The quality & sharpness of pictures that will put you a smile in your face. I really appreciate the results of the pictures I am getting now. Very good for outdoor shooting & indoor as well.

I bought this lens from BestBuy a couples weeks ago for a trip to Mexico with my family . It's so good for landscape photography with impressive wide angle and at 85mm you got a perfect lens for portrait. Overall I'm very happy with this lens. It does a great job !

It's a very sharp and precise lens. Very good auto focus and provides good quality at any of the ranges.

I am still playing with the lens, but it is so much fun! It is slightly heavier than I expected, but I plan to take it on a vacation anyway. I am anxious to take some landscapes and group photo's during the holidays...I can get so many more folks in the pictures! Love the VR !!!

For landscape photography I find this lens the best ever. From wide-angle to short telephoto, it fits my needs to a tee.

A great wide angle lens that has far more uses then most of my other lens. Ether in doors or out doors.

When used with the Nikon D7100 produces fine detail.

bought this to replace the fragile and less sharp stock lens that was equipped with the camera.

I read so many reviews and watched numerous video's on this lens before I purchased it. Most of the reviews had mixed opinions. I will be the first to admit that it is probably a little over-priced for the aperature range that it has. With that said, it is a sharp lens and I have been very happy with the quality of the pictures it has produced. I wasn't sure if the 2mm on the wide end would make much of a difference but it really did. Overall I am very happy with this lens and it feels and performs like a quality lens. It doesn't perform great in low light situations but I have a 35mm 1.8 for that task. It focuses very fast!

This and the 17-55 are the two lenses from, even the third parties, that really let the new 24 MP Nikon DX cameras shine. Sharp enough to cut yourself on, excellent VR, a bit of a reach into the wide angle at 16 mm. It's a lot of weight in a small package, and the front element is a bit exposed, but this is my standard leave on the camera zoom for most shooting situations on my D7100.

I bought this to replace the very basic lens that came with the camera. I already had a zoom and I hoped this one would keep me from having to switch lenses. The photos did not come out very clear which was why I bought the lens.

Here is what I like about the Nikon 16-85 lens: It is a bit smaller than I thought it would be. The zoom ring is very very stiff to turn, no chance of “lens creep” and that’s good. Manual focus is nice and smooth, and the 3 switches work well. Zooming in and out is beautiful; this is a great lens for a wide variety of subjects. Portraits at 85mm are super sharp. And I love to create awesome wide angle shots at 16mm too. Focusing is fast and quiet. Here is what I am not so happy with: The lens is much heavier than it looks. This is not a deal breaker but it is a heavy lens for its size. At 16mm it is so hard to focus manually. I have no choice but to use the auto focus.

I use this in tandem with my 70-300 VR, Auto focus. I've covered the full range for great shooting. It's a sturdy lens with metal mounting, rather than the plastic that kit lenses have. It's great for wide angle coverage and for shooting portraits.
I purchased this lens after reading so many 50-50 reviews. Don't beleive the BS, it is a bit pricey, but SHARP, sturdy, and a joy to use compared to kit lenses. The 16 wide does make a differance, the reach of the 85 is good. I mounted this to a D7000, maybe I got a great copy, but this camera likes this lens. Put the 18-108 on the wifes D3100, we are both good to go now. Nikon rocks!

Great IQ and range. The extra 2mm on the wide end really make a difference.

Love this lense, it is a really good all around lense for travel or whatever. Other people have given reviews with excellent technical evaluations etc. so I won't add mine. Suffice it to say this lense is worth the investment for all level of photographers.
